HOUSTON (AP) — Astros shortstop Carlos Correa had to be helped off the field after fouling a ball off his left ankle or foot Tuesday night.Correa was batting with one out in the sixth inning against the Texas Rangers when he fouled the ball. He immediately fell to the ground and was in significant pain as team officials came to check on him. He was soon helped to his feet and put his arms around two people as he was helped off the field without putting any weight on his left leg. Jack Mayfield came in to finish the at-bat and struck out. There was no immediate update on Correa's injury. The Astros entered Tuesday 1 1/2 games ahead of Seattle for second place in the AL West, with the top two teams ensured a spot in the postseason.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

A look at what's happening around the majors on Wednesday:SHIFTED SITEThe Mariners and Giants play at Oracle Park after their two-game series in Seattle was postponed because of poor air quality caused by the West Coast wildfires. The teams will now play twice in San Francisco.Forecasters are calling for smoke to reach very unhealthy levels in Western Washington through at least Thursday. There have been smoky skies in the Bay Area, too, but the air quality has remained OK.The Mariners and Oakland split a doubleheader Monday in Seattle. The smoke level reached a level of very unhealthy on the air quality index, even with the roof closed at T-Mobile Park.“I’m a healthy 22-year-old. I shouldn’t be gasping for air or missing oxygen. I’ll leave it at that,” said Jesús Luzardo, who started the opener for the A’s.HAMELS TIMEThe wait is over for left-hander Cole Hamels, who is poised to come off the 45-day injured list and pitch for the first time as a member of the Braves. After signing a one-year... NEW YORK (AP) — The World Series will be played entirely at the Texas Rangers’ new ballpark in Arlington, Texas, and Major League Baseball hopes fans can attend. The Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series all will be part of a bubble designed to minimize exposure to the coronavirus, which limited the regular season to a 60-game schedule for each club and caused 45 postponements. This will be the first World Series played entirely at one site since 1944, when the Cardinals beat the Browns 4-2 at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis, where both teams shared the field.“The elimination of travel is obviously a positive because because it cuts exposure,” baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said in an interview with The Associated Press after Tuesday's announcement. “Less interaction outside with the group that you're looking to protect is a huge positive. It’s all about what the risk of interacting with the community is.”While MLB was pleased with the players' response to protocols... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — The World Series will be played entirely at the Texas Rangers’ new ballpark in Arlington, Texas, as part of a bubble agreement between Major League Baseball and the players’ association, the first time the sport’s championship will be played entirely at one site since 1944.The Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series all will be part of a bubble designed to minimize exposure to the coronavirus, which limited the regular season to a 60-game schedule for each club and caused 45 postponements.Off days were eliminated for the Division Series and League Championship Series, which will stress pitching depth among starting rotations and bullpens.“It tells you the talent of the whole team, and it’s what we do for 162 games,” Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi said. “There might be a little bit more offense just because of that.”No off days may impact teams' decisions on how many pitchers to carry for postseason series.“It will probably affect everyone’s... NEW YORK (AP) — Billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen has agreed to buy the New York Mets from the Wilpon and Katz families. The team announced the agreement on Monday. The deal is subject to the approval of Major League Baseball owners.A Cohen entity would control 95% of the team, with the Wilpon and Katz families retaining the rest. The deal values the franchise at $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion.Former major league star Alex Rodriguez and fiancee Jennifer Lopez also attempted to buy the team, but they dropped out of the bidding last month.“I am excited to have reached an agreement with the Wilpon and Katz families to purchase the New York Mets,” Cohen said in a statement.Cohen also entered negotiations to buy the Mets last year, but the deal fell apart in February. He bought an 8% limited partnership stake in 2012 for $40 million. The deal that failed to close would have seen him acquire an 80% controlling share in a transaction that valued the team at $2.6 billion. The current Mets... [More]

Elvis Andrus was once that kid for the Texas Rangers, the 20-year-old shortstop whose big league debut forced one of the franchise's most popular players to change positions. Andrus is now 32, and his 12th season is done because of lingering lower back issues. That has raised questions about his future as shortstop of the Rangers, at a time when they are taking an extended look at so many of their young players.“I have done it, and I have more experience. If I get my body 100%, I’m there. I have no limitations in my mind that I can still be a productive player," Andrus said. “I know there is a lot left in my tank and I am not done. I know a lot of people want to see me go away, but not yet.”The longest-tenured Texas player, and the only one remaining from the franchise's consecutive World Series appearances a decade ago, is still owed $28.5 million over the next two seasons. But he has to be healthy, and better at the plate. When asked if he saw Andrus as the starting shortstop for Texas... [More]
