Caminero gave up one run on three hits in one inning against the Tigers on Wednesday.

The flame thrower pitched well for most of June but has now allowed runs in three of his last five outings (including three homers). On the positive side, Caminero -- who has always struggled with control -- has registered a 39:12 K:BB ratio in 36 innings.

Despite allowing a solo homer to Jay Bruce, Caminero recording his 12th hold Tuesday by limiting the Reds to one run in two innings.

The hard thrower has given up only two runs in 14 outings (16.2 IP) since May 19, crafting a 19:4 K:BB ratio. Poor control has always held Caminero back, but if he can continue throwing strikes then he might become a late-inning option down the road.

Caminero recorded his seventh hold Friday, striking out the side while allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk.

The righthander is averaging 98.2 mph with his fastball -- second-best in the majors behind Aroldis Chapman (99.5) -- but command issues have hurt him. Caminero has posted a 3.33 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with a 27:9 K:BB ratio in 24.1 innings. Pittsburgh will likely continue using him as a set-up man.

Caminero struck out two batters in a scoreless inning Thursday against the Cubs.

The hard-throwing righty has notched holds on consecutive days after giving up four earned runs in four innings over his prior three outings. Caminero pitched in the eighth inning as a late-inning set-up man, although Tony Watson was unavailable after a two-frame stint Wednesday.

Caminero took the loss Monday, allowing three runstwo earnedin his inning of relief.

Caminero got off to a strong start this season, but has now allowed runs in each of his last three outings. He has continued to strike out more than a batter an inning, but now has a 5.40 ERA.

Caminero, who retired both hitters he faced Thursday, hit 100 mph on the radar gun.

Although Caminero struggled with his control while pitching in the Marlins' organization, he threw five of six pitches for strikes Thursday. The hard-throwing righty could find himself in higher leverage situations with continued success.

Caminero has made the Bucs' Opening day roster and will serve as a middle-inning reliever to start the season, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "I've never had a guy that's walked one and struck out 21," manager Clint Hurdle said. "Those are numbers that are kind of crazy."

Caminero hit 100 mph during his Saturday outing. He's struggled to find his control throughout his career but could turn into a nice sleeper under the tutelage of Pirates pitching coach, Ray Searage.

Caminero has struck out 16 batters in 10 spring innings and has forced his way into consideration for a bullpen spot, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

If Caminero can find better control -- he's averaged 4.4 BB/9 IP in the minors, then his 98-mph fastball might play in Pittsburgh. Most likely, the righthander is fighting for the final bullpen spot with John Holdzkom. Given that Caminero is out of options while Holdzkom isn't, it would be surprising to see the former Marlins pitcher break camp with the Bucs, although the team would have to find space on the 40-man roster for him.

Caminero was traded from the Marlins to the Pirates for cash considerations Wednesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Caminero spent most of 2014 at Triple-A Newark, but did make six appearances with the Marlins. However, he struggled in those chances, allowing eight runs over just 6.2 innings. The Pirates could give him a chance to prove himself in spring training, though there is no indication he has received an invite at this point.

With Ichiro Suzuki's signing becoming official, the Marlins had to clear a spot on their 40-man roster, and Caminero was the casualty. Caminero was clobbered to the tune of eight earned runs (two homers) in 6.2 innings with the big club last season, and while he has shown an ability to miss bats at a high clip in the minors (11.0 K/9), his inability to consistently find the strike zone (4.5 BB/9 in minors) will likely scare off many teams.

The 26-year-old has appeared in six games for the Marlins this season, registering a 10.80 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 8/4 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings. He'll continue to function as organizational bullpen depth in the minor leagues.

Caminero was brilliant this spring, putting up a 2.00 ERA and 9/1 K/BB ratio over nine innings of work, but he has an option remaining and sometimes that's how these decisions go toward the end of spring training. We'll surely hear from him again soon.

Arquimedes Caminero lowered his spring ERA to 1.13 by pitching a perfect inning against the Astros on Friday.

Remember Caminero's name: he could be the Marlins' next closer. He's allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out eight this spring.

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, Arquimedes Caminero could see an increased role in the Marlins bullpen in 2014.

With the departures of Chad Qualls and Ryan Webb, the Marlins will be looking for a bridge in the late innings to get the ball to closer Steve Cishek. The hard-throwing 26-year-old impressed during his time with the Marlins in 2013, posting a 2.77 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 13 innings.
