The Twins cut six players from their 40-man roster on Wednesday and none were all that surprising. Walters, 27, had a 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings over 12 starts with the big club this year.

P.J. Walters pitched well in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday, yielding just two runs on four hits over five innings.

Tue Sep 18 201223:08Walters decent in no-decision vs. Indians
P.J. Walters turned in a decent effort in a no-decision against the Indians on Tuesday, surrendering four runs (two earned) on eight hits over five-plus innings.
Walters fanned three and issued one free pass on the night. He carried a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning where a pair of unearned runs put him on the hook for the loss. He's struggled to find any sort of consistency through his first nine starts, and will carry an unimpressive 2-4 record and 6.39 ERA into Sunday's start against the Tigers in Detroit.

Sun Sep 2 201209:09Twins could use seven-man rotation
P.J. Walters is likely to start Wednesday against the White Sox.
Walters was activated from the DL Saturday after missing two and a half months with shoulder issues. The Twins could use a seven-man rotation down the stretch, with Esmerling Vasquez also getting a shot. "This is the one opportunity where you could possibly go to a six-man or even seven-man [rotation] if you deemed it necessary," general manager Terry Ryan said. "We're bringing up two starting pitchers, Vasquez and Walters, and we're certainly interested in how they responded."

P.J. Walters (shoulder) will resume his rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Rochester.

Sun Jul 8 201216:59Walters (shoulder) suffers a "minor setback"
P.J. Walters (shoulder) suffered a "minor setback" in a rehab start with Triple-A Rochester on Sunday and will require at least one more outing on the farm prior to activation.
Despite sporting a paper-thin rotation, the Twins haven't seemed particularly keen on rushing Walters back to the majors. Prior to Sunday, even, reports out of Minnesota speculated that the Twins wanted him to make at least one more start at Triple-A. In other words, as long as his setback wasn't severe, Walters' timetable remains the same. Expect to see him in the rotation later this month. Leave Walters and his ugly 5.40 ERA over seven starts on the waiver wire in AL-only leagues once he is activated.

Tue Jun 26 201218:11Walters (shoulder) throws bullpen session
P.J. Walters (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session on Tuesday afternoon.
If his next bullpener (on Thursday) goes well, Walters may be cleared to make a minor league rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Rochester. And he should be cleared to return to the Twins' rotation five days after that. The right-hander has posted an ugly 5.40 ERA in seven starts this season, but Minnesota doesn't have better options.

Fri Jun 15 201209:17P.J. Walters expects to be back when eligible
P.J. Walters expects to be activated from the disabled list when eligible after an MRI revealed no structural damage with his right shoulder.
"I know I can pitch here," Walters said. "I think I've shown I can pitch here, and it's just a matter now of getting healthy and getting back out there and helping the team win some games." The righty says this is the first start he's ever missed, even dating back to his little league days. Jeff Manship is likely to take Walters' spot in the rotation, though the Twins won't need a fifth starter until June 23.

Wed Jun 13 201220:46P.J. Walters exits start with shoulder injury
Updating an earlier item, P.J. Walters left Wednesday's start with right shoulder pain and stiffness.
Walters was unable to get loose, and his velocity was down as he allowed four straight hits to start the game before exiting. He'll receive an MRI Thursday. Jeff Manship replaced Walters on the mound and would be an option to replace him in the rotation if an extended absence is required.

Sat Jun 2 201222:19P.J. Walters ineffective against Indians
P.J. Walters wasn't at his best against the Indians on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of work.
Walters struck out two and walked three in the game. His offense came out firing, staking him to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but he was unable to hang around long enough to pick up the victory. The Indians picked up single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth to chase him from the game. He remains 2-1 on the season and raises his ERA to 3.69. He's still been one of the best pitchers in the Twins rotation this season, and should have plenty of job security, especially with the injury to Carl Pavano. He'll attempt to bounce back when he takes on the Cubs at home on Friday.

Sun May 27 201217:47P.J. Walters has another quality day in loss
P.J. Walters held the Tigers to two runs on seven hits and five walks in six innings of work on Sunday, but got stuck with a no-decision as his bullpen blew a lead in Minnesota's 4-3 loss at home.
Walters struck out four in his fourth straight quality start since joining the Twins rotation. The 27-year-old Walters has obviously been a breath of fresh air for the Twins' struggling rotation, but his minor-league numbers didn't suggest he'd be a future quality-start machine in the big leagues. It's time to sell high if you're an AL-only league owner. Walters will get the Indians in Cleveland on Saturday.

Sat May 12 201222:11P.J. Walters pitches well in first start
P.J. Walters pitched well in his first start of the season on Saturday, limiting the Blue Jays to two runs on six hits over six innings of work.
He struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Walters surrendered an RBI single to Adam Lind in the fifth inning and a solo homer to Jose Bautista in the sixth. He showed more than enough in the fine performance to earn himself another turn through the Twins rotation, which should come against the Tigers in Detroit on Thursday.
