Wed Sep 22 201013:12Bowden to prepare as reliever
Michael Bowden will prepare as a reliever while pitching for Magallanas in the Venezuelan Winter League.
"As of now, I'm going to winter ball to work on getting repetitions in the bullpen for next year," said Bowden. "The plan as of now is to be a reliever [in 2011]. I enjoy it. There's still a lot of learning to do." The 24-year-old right-hander posted a 5.25 ERA in 11 relief appearances with the Red Sox this season. The former 2005 supplemental first-round pick is primarily a flyball pitcher and doesn't miss many bats, so it will be essential that he puts an emphasis on keeping the ball down in the strike zone. He'll be a storyline to watch during spring training.

Red Sox recalled RHP Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket.
This looks to be Boston's final September call-up. Bowden, 23, has allowed four earned runs in six relief appearances with the Red Sox this season. He's been better at Triple-A, as both a starter and reliever. It's not clear what his role will be with the club heading into 2011.
Sat Aug 14 201019:24Red Sox call up RHP Michael Bowden
Red Sox recalled RHP Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Because of reduced strikeout rates in the upper levels of the minor leagues, Bowden's stock as a prospect has dwindled. There is a chance his stuff plays up in the bullpen, but he won't leap past Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon on the depth chart even if he does find extra oomph in the bully.
Sat Aug 14 201014:16Report: Bowden to join Red Sox on Saturday
Michael Bowden has left Triple-A Pawtucket and will join the Red Sox in Texas, according to Daniel Barbarisi of the Providence Journal.
It's not yet clear if he'll be activated immediately. The 23-year-old right-hander tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings over three appearances in a stint with the team in July and could undoubtedly help out the bullpen.

Sat Jul 24 201008:30Bowden could be back in bullpen soon
Michael Bowden could rejoin the Red Sox bullpen before long.
Bowden was just optioned to the minors Friday in order to clear room on the roster for Josh Beckett's return. However, he impressed the coaching staff and it could be a short stay for him at Triple-A Pawtucket. "We didn't want to send him back,'' manager Terry Francona said. "We're not allowed to play with 26 players. You can see by the way we used him, we certainly weren't afraid to use him. His breaking ball is better. He's always been a mature kid, but as far as innings pitched, he looks like he's ready to start helping us, which is good.'' The Sox bullpen has been inconsistent, and Bowden could possibly eventually find himself in some high leverage situations. However, we wouldn't expect much fantasy value here.

Sun Jul 18 201010:21Red Sox recall Bowden from Triple-A
Red Sox recalled RHP Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox recently moved Bowden to the bullpen, and that's where he pitch with the big club. He allowed just one hit and no runs while striking out five over six innings in a relief role for Pawtucket. The right-hander will most likely be used as a long man.
Tue Jul 6 201017:19Michael Bowden moved to bullpen
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, prospect right-hander Michael Bowden has been moved to the bullpen with Triple-A Pawtucket.
It was only a matter of time. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.77 ERA over 16 starts with Triple-A Pawtucket this season -- which is just dandy -- but he has only averaged 6.2 K/9 and is primarily a flyball pitcher. Unless he finds a way to adapt, he doesn't have the proper stuff to make it as a productive starter in the long-term.
