Sat Feb 22 201413:20Alfonso Soriano still battling the flu
Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal reports that Alfonso Soriano has still yet to participate in activities this spring as he's battling a nasty bout of the flu.
The veteran outfielder will be re-evaluated on Monday. He still has plenty of time to get healthy and ready to go for the start of the regular season, so the illness shouldn't have any effect on his draft stock.

Fri Feb 21 201415:28Alfonso Soriano might retire after season
Alfonso Soriano indicated earlier this week that whether he continues his playing career next season will depend on his health.
"It depends on how I feel,'' Soriano said. "If I am healthy I will play [in 2015]. If not, I will let it go. It depends how I feel.'' Soriano will turn 39 in July, but he appears to have something left in the tank given that he's coming off back-to-back, 30-homer, 100-RBI seasons. He is in the final year of a nine-year, $136 million contract.

Thu Feb 20 201413:39Alfonso Soriano out Thurs. due to the flu
Alfonso Soriano was held out of workouts Thursday in Yankees camp due to a case of the flu.
Soriano should be fully recovered by early next week and will have no problems catching back up with his teammates. The 38-year-old is expected to be in a rotation this year between right field and designated hitter. He had 34 home runs and 101 RBI in 151 games last season between the Cubs and Yankees.

Fri Dec 6 201310:37Girardi doesn't commit to Soriano in RF
Yankees manager Joe Girardi wouldn't commit Thursday to using Alfonso Soriano as his everyday right fielder next season.
Brett Gardner will shift to left field following the Jacoby Ellsbury signing, meaning Soriano will also have to move. Girardi is likely simply keeping open the possibility that the Yanks will bring in someone else to play right field, resulting in Soriano being used in the DH spot. Soriano will play regularly somewhere after slugging 30 homers in 2013 for the second straight season.

Sun Sep 15 201323:54Soriano goes 1-for-2 in return to lineup
Alfonso Soriano (thumb) returned to the Yankees lineup on Sunday, going 1-for-2 with a walk in a losing effort against the Red Sox.
Soriano indicated that his thumb was still bothering him, but not to the point that would keep him out of the lineup. The Yankees certainly need his bat in the lineup, so expect Soriano to continue to man up and play through the pain over the final two weeks of the season.

Alfonso Soriano belted his 30th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough to lead the Yankees to victory over the Red Sox in a wild game on Friday.
Soriano finished the evening 1-for-5. His two-run shot off Felix Doubront got the scoring started in the first inning, and helped propel the Yankees to an early 8-3 lead that they were unable to hang on to. The 37-year-old has now smashed 13 homers and driven home 43 runs in just 39 games since returning to the Bronx Bombers.

Sun Jul 28 201321:01Soriano has four hits, including walkoff
Alfonso Soriano had four hits, including a walkoff RBI single, in the Yankees' win over the Rays on Sunday.
It was a massive day for the former Yankee, who singled and scored in the first inning, hit a two-run shot in the third inning, singled to left field in the seventh inning and played the hero with a game-winning single to center field in the bottom of the ninth. He got a nice fantasy boost when he was traded into the power-friendly American League East and is a must-own again in standard mixed formats.

Fri Jul 26 201323:16Soriano hitless in return to Yankees
Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Rays in his first game since being traded to the Yankees.
Batting cleanup in his return to the Bronx, Soriano had plenty of chances to do damage, but he could only muster a run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth inning. With the way Travis Hafner has faded, Soriano should get most of the at-bats out of the DH spot after Curtis Granderson comes of the disabled list. Playing in the hitter-friendly ballparks of the AL East, a big second half wouldn't be a surprise.

Fri Jul 26 201316:28Alfonso Soriano officially returns to Yankees
Yankees acquired OF Alfonso Soriano and cash considerations from the Cubs for RHP Corey Black.
Soriano is set to bat cleanup in his return to the Bronx on Friday against the Rays. The Cubs will reportedly pay roughly $17.7 million of the approximately $24.5 million remaining on his contract. The Yankees have struggled miserably from the right side of the plate, so Soriano should be an upgrade. The 37-year-old is batting .254/.287/.467 with 17 home runs and 51 RBI through 93 games this season and holds an .806 OPS against left-handed pitching. He'll likely play left field for now and shift over to the DH spot once Curtis Granderson comes off the disabled list.
