Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) threw two scoreless innings in a rehab start with High-A Brevard County on Wednesday.
It was the lefty's first rehab start since being placed on the disabled list in late March. He's shooting for a return at the end of May.

Gorzelanny felt soreness in early September and was eventually shut down for the year. The southpaw isn't expected to be able to pitch until mid-March, but the Brewers remain hopeful that he'll be ready for the start of the 2014 season. He can't afford any setbacks.

The veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since September 2 when he was forced out of a relief appearance due to inflammation in his rotator cuff. The only throwing that he has done since suffering the injury has been on flat ground in the outfield.

Tom Gorzelanny allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates on Wednesday.
Gorzelanny's slide continues, as he's now allowed 16 runs over his last 13 2/3 innings spanning three starts. On Wednesday, the lefty gave up nine hits and a walk. The loss moved him to 3-6 with a 3.80 ERA for the year. The same two teams will get together in Gorzelanny's next start Monday in Milwaukee.

Gorzy was doing nice work against lesser teams, but he's been roughed up by contenders his last two times out. After facing the Reds and Cards in consecutive starts, he'll get the Pirates next time out. That's a better matchup, but he's a borderline play in NL-only leagues.

Tom Gorzelanny was touched up for five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Friday.
Gorzelanny needed 37 pitches just to make it through the first inning, so it was clear he wasn't going to last long in this one. All told, the southpaw allowed six hits (including two homers) and three walks while notching five strikeouts. His ERA jumped from 2.51 to 2.95 with the clunker. Things don't get any easier next week with a tough matchup against the Cardinals.

Tom Gorzelanny (elbow) is expected to miss at least one start.
Gorzelanny had to be pulled from Friday's start after just four batters after taking a line drive off of his throwing elbow. "It's still pretty swollen," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "It's getting really complicated. We may have to go to the minor leagues. There's so many different things we've talked about." The Brewers want Marco Estrada (hamstring) to make one more rehab start, leaving Johnny Hellweg, Jimmy Nelson and Chris Narveson as the likely options to fill in for Gorzelanny.
