Mon Jan 31 201119:48Durbin unlikely to return to Phillies
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. indicated Monday that he has closed the door on re-signing Chad Durbin.
"I would say that we're probably not going to resign him," said Amaro. Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reported over the weekend that Durbin wants a two-year deal, so unless he lowers his demands, a return is highly unlikely. Kyle Kendrick could be an option to fill his role in the bullpen as long as Joe Blanton remains in the starting rotation.

Sat Jan 29 201111:11Phils not willing to give Durbin two years
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Phillies have yet to re-sign Chad Durbin because he wants a two-year deal for more money than they're willing to spend.
Given what's transpired over the winter with relievers, it's hard to blame Durbin for thinking he could get two years following three solid seasons with the Phillies. The Phils, though, are placing more of a priority on grooming young relievers like Scott Mathieson and David Herndon. Perhaps a deal can still be worked out if Durbin lowers his demands.

Tue Jan 11 201116:29Phils haven't ruled out Durbin
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of re-signing Chad Durbin.
"Not necessarily," said Amaro. "Except that right now I think we're in the mode of kind of giving people opportunities to take jobs. I view three different areas in our club that I think are not slam dunks as far as personnel is concerned, and that's the bullpen, right field and the bench. I'm looking forward to seeing some competition in all three of those areas." The Phillies don't have a lot of payroll flexibility at the moment, so unless Joe Blanton is traded relatively soon, chances are Durbin will end up elsewhere.

Thu Jan 6 201116:52Phils unlikely to re-sign Chad Durbin
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. hinted Thursday that his club is unlikely to re-sign free agent reliever Chad Durbin.
"We're probably pretty comfortable with where we stand," Amaro said. "I frankly would like to see people battle out for spots in the bullpen, on the bench and right field." Durbin, 33, posted a quality 3.86 ERA in 58 1/3 innings last season for Philadelphia and is likely to get calls soon from clubs desperate for relief help. There are plenty of them out there.

Tue Jan 4 201115:45Phils, Durbin interested in working out deal
The Phillies and Chad Durbin still have mutual interest in working out a deal, according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Phils made an offer earlier this offseason and Durbin's representatives countered with something worth a little more in annual salary. Now the two sides are trying to find a middle ground. Durbin, 33, posted a decent 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings last season for the Phillies and would operate in middle relief if a deal can be worked out for 2011.

Sat Dec 11 201008:46Durbin, Phillies optimisitic about deal
The Phillies are continuing to negotiate with Chad Durbin and both sides are optimistic a deal can be reached, according to David Murphy of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Durbin, 33, posted a 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings this past season for the Phils. He's unlikely to approach the two-year, $5.5 million deal Jose Contreras got, as the contract D.J. Carrasco signed with the Mets (two years, $2.5 million) might be more realistic. Some teams are reportedly interested in Durbin as a starter, but it's not clear how serious that interest is.

Wed Dec 8 201011:13Phils meet wtih Durbin's agent
According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phillies met with Chad Durbin's agent Danny Horwits on Tuesday.
A source tells Gelb that the Phillies maintain interest, but no terms had been discussed before Tuesday. Durbin, 33, posted a 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings this past season. It's possible that the market for the right-hander may have been affected by the two-year, $2.5 million contract D.J. Carrasco signed with the Mets.

Tue Nov 23 201012:14Chad Durbin not offered arb. by Phillies
Chad Durbin was not offered arbitration by the Phillies.
Durbin made $2.125 million in 2010 and the Phils didn't deem it a smart business move to offer him a raise despite the solid 3.86 ERA and 52/20 K/BB ratio that he posted over 58 1/3 frames. He's likely to test the free agent waters but could ultimately re-sign at a lesser salary.

Mon Nov 22 201019:24Chad Durbin will not get offered arbitration
A source tells Todd Zolecki of MLB.com that the Phillies will not offer Type B free agent Chad Durbin salary arbitration.
The 32-year-old right-hander made $2.125 million in 2010 while posting a 3.86 ERA and a 52/20 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings. The Phillies have expressed interest in retaining Durbin at a cheaper price.

Fri Nov 12 201022:51Some teams looking at Durbin as starter
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that free agent Chad Durbin is getting interest both as a starter and a reliever.
Durbin has made 75 starts in his career, but none since 2007. He's had much more success as a reliever the last three seasons than he did as a starter, so while he could get a shot as a No. 5 starter somewhere, odds are he'll remain the bullpen. The 32-year-old held a 3.80 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 8.3 K/9 rate over 68 2/3 innings this past season.

Fri Sep 3 201009:51Durbin would like to return to Phillies
Chad Durbin told Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he would like to stay with the Phillies.
Durbin, who is making $2.125 million in 2010, will be a free agent for the first time in his career after the season. The 32-year-old right-hander has a 3.86 ERA and a 52/20 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings this season. While he'd like to return to Philadelphia, he recognizes that the Phillies might not be able to afford to keep him. "It'll be something that's tough," said Durbin. "If somebody is offering two or three years, it'll be hard to say no to that to take a one-year deal where you really want to be." Durbin has been a valuable contributor out of the bullpen this season, but they could replace his production at a cheaper price tag.

Thu Jun 24 201010:30Phils place Durbin (hamstring) on DL
Phillies placed RHP Chad Durbin on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.
Durbin strained his hamstring during the ninth inning of Wednesday's win over the Indians. It's a tough break for a bullpen that is already without the services of setup man Ryan Madson. Durbin has a 3.31 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 29 appearances this season.
