Overbay finished the afternoon 2-for-3 plus a walk. He tagged starter Anibal Sanchez for a two-run homer in the fifth, and added an RBI single in the ninth inning. The veteran first baseman has been a surprisingly valuable cog in the Yankees offense this season, hitting .252/.304/.428 with 13 homers and 50 RBI. Sat May 11 201300:02Overbay drives in five in win over Royals
Lyle Overbay had a monster night against the Royals on Friday, as he finished 4-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored as part of an 11-6 victory.
Overbay launched a two-run homer in the second inning, knocked in one run with a double in the fourth and sparked a five-run rally in the sixth with a two-run double. The five RBI were the most he has had in a game since August 20, 2010 as a member of the Blue Jays. The 36-year-old has been a pleasant surprise while filling in for Mark Teixeira at first base, posting six homers to go along with a .509 slugging percentage and an .811 OPS. He should continue to be a useful option in AL-only leagues for the time being.

Wed Feb 20 201311:16Overbay could be odd man out in Boston
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal speculates that Mike Carp being traded to the Red Sox could lead to Lyle Overbay returning to the Brewers.
Overbay signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox late last month to serve as insurance policy to Mike Napoli at first base, but the acquisition of Carp could make him the odd man out. His contract includes an opt-out if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster, so any potential return to the Brewers is likely a few weeks away from coming to fruition.
