Rafael Furcal (hamstring, groin) had to exit a rehab game with Double-A Jacksonville Friday after aggravating his right groin injury.
Furcal, who was originally on the DL with a hamstring issue, was playing in his first game since resuming his rehab assignment following a groin problem. The infielder was set to be re-evaluated Saturday before the Marlins determine how long he might be out. "He's super frustrated," said Jacksonville manager Andy Barkett. "I'm doing all I can and he's doing all he can. His body is just not cooperating with him right now."

Rafael Furcal (hamstring, groin) will resume his rehab assignment with Double-A Jacksonville on Friday.
Furcal missed time recently due to a right groin injury, but he's ready for game action again. "He will start playing again, and we'll see from there," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "He took a bunch of grounders today and ran again. He says his legs are feeling better. He says he's ready to get back. We'll see how that goes." Furcal should be activated pretty soon as long as he's healthy.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) isn't expected to be activated from the disabled list until May 6.
A report on Wednesday indicated that Furcal could return sometime next week, but the Marlins have decided it would be best if the infielder used all of his allotted 20 rehab days. Furcal has just four singles in his first 26 rehab at-bats.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list in a week.
"He'll play tomorrow (for Double-A Jacksonville on his rehab assignment)," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Wednesday. "I think the plan for him, as of right now, is to be there for a week." Furcal will be used as the everyday second baseman once activated, which means Derek Dietrich and Donovan Solano will no longer platoon at the position.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Jupiter.

Marlins placed 2B Rafael Furcal on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with left hamstring discomfort.
Furcal has been bothered by hamstring discomfort since mid-March and simply isn't back to 100 percent yet. He'll be eligible to return on April 6, but the Marlins might want to see him get some more at-bats before activating him. Derek Dietrich and Jeff Baker will fill in at second base for now.

Thu Mar 27 201410:35Furcal (hamstring) likely to open year on DL
Rafael Furcal (hamstring) is expected to open the 2014 regular season on the 15-day disabled list.
The Marlins can back-date the stint so that he's eligible to return the second week of April. Furcal has been bothered since mid-March by left hamstring discomfort. Derek Dietrich is likely to make the Marlins' 25-man roster to help out in the early going at second base. It's a position to ignore this year in fantasy leagues.

Tue Mar 25 201414:40Furcal (hammy) plays in minor league game
Rafael Furcal (hamstring) went 1-for-6 with a walk as the designated hitter Tuesday in a minor league game.
Furcal, sidelined for over a week with a left hamstring injury, also reportedly "ran decently." He's not ready to play in the field yet, so a stint on the disabled list still appears likely. Derek Dietrich, Donovan Solano and Ed Lucas are the alternatives to play second base.

Mon Mar 24 201419:50Furcal (hamstring) likely to open year on DL
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that it's "appearing more likely" that Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will begin the season on the disabled list.
Furcal played in a minor league game in the DH spot Monday, but he's running out of time to get ready for the opener. If a DL move is indeed needed, it could be backdated in order to allow Furcal to return as soon as April 5. "I don't want to play one day and take five days [off]," Furcal said. "They know. Everybody knows. We have a lot of good guys who can start. But I don't want to be on the field and not be able to do something because of my hamstring. No excuse." Derek Dietrich, Donovan Solano and Ed Lucas are options at second base for the Marlins if Furcal isn't ready.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) is scheduled to play in a minor league game on Monday in Marlins camp.
Furcal has been sidelined for over a week by a left hamstring injury, but the Marlins are holding out hope that he will be ready for the first game of the regular season. The oft-injured veteran infielder is expected to start at second base this summer for Miami. He is a bad fantasy option.

Sat Mar 22 201410:23Furcal (hamstring) will run bases Saturday
Rafael Furcal will test his injured hamstring by running the bases on Saturday.
If all goes well, he'll return to the Marlins lineup in the coming days. The veteran infielder is still expected to begin the season as the Marlins starting second baseman, but he remains a poor fantasy option and is unlikely to keep himself off the disabled list.

Wed Feb 26 201410:08Furcal (elbow) to be eased into action
Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Wednesday that he plans to ease Rafael Furcal (elbow) into action this spring.
Furcal missed the entire 2013 season following Tommy John surgery, so the Marlins are just being cautious. He won't play in the team's Grapefruit League opener on Friday, but should be in the lineup Saturday. "I know he's feeling good, but at the same time I want to make sure he's got his legs under him and is healthy for Opening Day," said Redmond. The 36-year-old is expected to function as the team's regular second baseman and leadoff man this year.

Sat Dec 14 201308:42Rafael Furcal expected to leadoff for Marlins
Marlins manager Mike Redmond indicated this week that Rafael Furcal is expected to begin the season as the team's leadoff hitter.
The 36-year-old, who missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, hit atop the Cardinals lineup when he last played in 2012, slashing .264/.325/.346 with five homers and 49 RBI in 121 games. While his speed has likely declined at this stage of his career, his premium lineup spot should make Furcal and interesting middle infield option in deeper mixed leagues.

Fri Dec 6 201317:22Furcal signs one-year deal with Marlins
Marlins signed INF Rafael Furcal to a one-year contract.
He's expected to receive $3 million, with more possible in incentives. The Marlins will keep Adeiny Hechavarria at shortstop, which means Furcal will settle in at second base, a position he hasn't played since 2004. The 36-year-old batted .264/.325/.346 with five homers and 12 steals in 2012 for the Cardinals before missing the 2013 campaign following Tommy John surgery. He'll be 100 percent for spring training.

Thu Dec 5 201321:36Marlins sign veteran Rafael Furcal to play 2B
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Marlins have agreed to terms with Rafael Furcal on a one-year contract.
The financials are not yet available. Adeiny Hechavarria will remain at shortstop, which means Furcal will settle in at second base, a position he hasn't played since 2004. Furcal batted .264/.325/.346 with five homers and 12 steals in 2012 for the Cardinals before missing the 2013 campaign following Tommy John surgery. He'll be 100 percent for spring training but remains an injury risk, especially at the age of 36.

Sat Nov 30 201317:23Mets down on Furcal
The Mets have soured on free agent Rafael Furcal because of physical concerns, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
Furcal underwent Tommy John surgery in March and has had other physical issues in recent years, so some seem skeptical that he'll be able to make it back as a starting shortstop next season. It'd be best if he landed with a team with a solid alternative already in place.
