Nate Schierholtz singled and stole a base in four at-bats against the Angels on Tuesday.

Wed Mar 19 201415:36Tigers scouting Cubs' Schierholtz and Barney
Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago reports that Tigers executive Scott Reid is scouting Cubs' OF Nate Schierholtz and INF Darwin Barney.
With shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder Andy Dirks both expected to miss significant time due to injury, Detroit's decision-makers are hunting down contingency plans as we speak. Schierholtz slashed .251/.301/.470 with 21 homers and 68 RBI in his first full season with the Cubs last year. Barney is a lauded defender with experience at shortstop who won a Gold Glove at second base in 2012.

Sat Mar 8 201419:27Schierholtz goes 2-for-3 with a homer in win
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-3 with a walk, homer, two runs and two RBI as the Cubs defeated the Reds 9-0 on Saturday.
It was the first homer of Schierholtz's spring. Chicago's right fielder is deployed correctly by his employer -- 87 percent of his plate appearances against right-handed pitching last season -- and that's one of the reasons he's an interesting sleeper in NL-only formats. He slashed .251/.301/.470 with 21 homers and 68 RBI in his first full season with the Cubs last year. It might have been his last, too, as Chicago is expected to shop Schierholtz if he hits well enough for them to get a decent return back.

Tue Mar 4 201419:18Schierholtz goes 2-for-3 against the A's
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-3 with a double as the Cubs defeated the Athletics 6-4 on Tuesday.
Schierholtz took 87 percent of his plate appearances against right-handed pitching last season. He isn't very effective against same-handed pitching, so it seems likely the Cubs will use him the same way going forward. However, he might end up becoming a trade chip for the Cubs near the end of July.

Sat Sep 14 201321:59Schierholtz plates lone run in loss to Bucs
Nate Schierholtz went 1-for-4 with an RBI double, plating the Cubs lone run in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.
Schierholtz's first inning double off Gerrit Cole would've netted him a pair of RBI, but Anthony Rizzo was gunned out at the plate attempting to score. The 29-year-old outfielder has been a very consistent run producer in the middle of the Cubs lineup this season, slashing .253/.306/.480 with 20 homers and 65 RBI in 123 games.

Mon Aug 19 201323:28Nate Schierholtz homers twice, knocks in six
Nate Schierholtz went 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBI to lead the Cubs' offense on Monday.
Schierholtz has 18 homers in 347 at-bats this season after hitting 24 in his first 1,275 major league at-bats. That he's gotten out of San Francisco and into a better park for power hitters has surely been a factor there, but even so, his .522 slugging percentage is a big surprise. The Cubs will be able to keep him around for next year, too.

Thu Aug 8 201317:18Schierholtz homers Thursday vs. Phillies
Nate Schierholtz launched a solo homer in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
His solo homer off Ethan Martin in the fourth inning was the only offense of the day for Chicago. Some have wondered why the Cubs kept Schierholtz around past the July 31 trade deadline, but they still have him under team control for another year. Perhaps they'll revisit the idea of a trade this winter, but it's conceivable he could be on the team next year.

Wed Jul 31 201313:00Report: Cubs don't mind keeping Schierholtz
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Cubs don't mind hanging onto Nate Schierholtz if they don't get an offer they like.
Chicago is in a nice position with Schierholtz. They inked the outfielder to a cheap one-year, $2.25 million contract over the winter and have been rewarded with a .272/.332/.517 slash line with 14 home runs and 43 RBI in 89 games. If they don't appreciate what the market will bear for Schierholtz, Chicago will simply keep him. Schierholtz is under team control through next season.

Wed Jul 31 201309:07Report: Schierholtz more likely to be moved
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Cubs appear more likely to trade outfielder Nate Schierholtz than relievers Kevin Gregg and James Russell.
Schierholtz isn't a big name, but he has quietly had a very nice season for the Cubs, batting .272/.332/.517 with 14 home runs and 43 RBI in 89 games. Many have speculated on the Pirates as a potential fit. Gregg was looking like an obvious trade candidate not too long ago, but his recent struggles have likely diminished his value.

Tue Jul 30 201315:52Report: Schierholtz drawing 'solid interest'
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Nate Schierholtz is drawing "solid interest" in trades.
The Cubs have been very active in the trade market this month, so it stands to reason that they would cash in on someone who is having a career year at a bargain rate. Schierholtz, 29, is batting .274/.334/.523 with 14 home runs and 43 RBI in 87 games this season. Look for him to get moved by Wednesday afternoon.

Sun Jul 28 201300:20Nate Schierholtz's homer proves difference
Nate Schierholtz homered off Sergio Romo in the top of the ninth as the Cubs beat the Giants 1-0 on Saturday.
Schierholtz has helped his trade value with three homers and four doubles in his last five games. The Cubs have him under control for next year, so they don't need to flip him. Still, if the right offer comes along, he's available.

Thu Jul 25 201302:15Schierholtz goes 2-for-4 with homer, four RBI
Nate Schierholtz went 3-for-6 with a double, home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 7-6, 10-inning victory against the Diamondbacks.
Schierholtz's three-run bomb off Ian Kennedy was part of a four-run fifth inning that momentarily gave the Cubs a 6-0 lead. He's hit safely in four straight games, pushing his slash line to an impressive .277/.334/.521. Schierholtz, who is making just $2.25 million this season, is on the trade block and may be roaming another outfield within the next week.
