Fri Jan 11 201313:45Mets view Hairston as 'fallback' option
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Mets are viewing Scott Hairston as a "fallback option."
Heyman says the Mets will "move" on Hairston "if they can't get a bigger name." It's surprising given that they haven't really been involved with higher profile names other than Justin Upton and Jason Kubel, and their potential interest in them seemed to fade quickly. The Yankees are also interested in Hairston, but reportedly are "pessimistic" about signing him.

Tue Jan 8 201311:51Yanks pessimistic about signing Hairston
Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York reports that the Yankees are "pessimistic" about signing Scott Hairston.
The feeling is that he'll get more at-bats elsewhere, which could be a hint that he's leaning toward a return to the Mets. The Yankees are also reluctant to hand out any multi-year deals. Hairston's agent, Casey Close, said Monday that his client should make a decision on where he'll sign within "a matter of days."

Mon Jan 7 201317:56Hairston deciding between Mets and Yankees
Scott Hairston's agent, Casey Close, told Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York that he continues to talk with both the Mets and Yankees and that his client should make a decision on where he'll sign within "a matter of days."
Other teams could be involved, but it sounds like the Mets and Yankees are the finalists. "I think he's a good fit for either team," said Close. "But there are different roles at each place and Scott is deciding which is the best option for him." Hairston would be an everyday player with the Mets, but he would likely see most of his at-bats against left-handers with the Yankees.

Fri Dec 28 201208:17Yankees still interested in Scott Hairston
The New York Post's Kevin Kernan reports that the Yankees remain interested in Scott Hairston even after the Matt Diaz signing.
Diaz inked a minor league deal earlier this week and could wind up platooning in right field with Ichiro Suzuki, but the Yanks haven't ruled out bringing in a more high profile name. They've been connected to Hairston all offseason, though the outfielder reportedly would prefer to re-sign with the Mets so that he can play every day.

Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com hears that Scott Hairston prefers to re-sign with the Mets so that he can play every day.
Hairston likely would be in line for more playing time with the Mets than he would elsewhere, but New York also reportedly isn't anxious to offer him the two-year deal he's seeking. The Braves and Yankees are among the clubs pursuing the free agent outfielder.

Fri Dec 21 201210:02Braves interested in Scott Hairston
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports that the Braves have interest in Scott Hairston, but he "could be too pricey for them."
The Braves would like to add a left fielder, allowing them to move Martin Prado to third base, but they don't have much money to spend. With the amount of interest he's receiving, Hairston should be able to net a pretty significant two-year deal. The Yankees are among those in on the outfielder.

Mon Aug 27 201217:34Report: Scott Hairston claimed off waivers
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Scott Hairston has been claimed off waivers.
It's not a big surprise. The Giants could really use him, but it's possible they were blocked by a team with a worse record. The Mets can make a deal with the claiming deal, assign Hairston's contract to the claiming team or simply pull him back from waivers. There should be a resolution in the next 48 hours.
