Sat Jul 16 201116:53Brad Bergesen (forearm) to start Monday
Brad Bergesen (forearm) is expected to start Monday's game against the Red Sox.
So much for a trip to the disabled list. Bergesen got hit with a line drive off the bat of David Ortiz on July 8, but X-rays were negative and the righty is apparently fine. He has taken up temporary residence in the O's rotation.

Sat Jul 9 201115:56Brad Bergesen thinks he'll avoid DL
X-rays on Brad Bergesen's right forearm came back negative, and he's confident he can avoid a trip to the disabled list.
He might very well be healthy enough to avoid the disabled list, but with the Orioles' bullpen in shambles and Bergesen having thrown three innings Friday, they might go ahead and place him on the DL just to free up a roster spot. Mark Hendrickson has been called up as a reinforcement.

Fri Jul 8 201120:47Brad Bergesen has right forearm contusion
Brad Bergesen has been diagnosed with a right forearm contusion.
Evidently he took the line drive off his arm and not the chest as originally thought. It's not clear at this point if he might need to miss time, but given that he threw three innings before the injury, the O's might go ahead and make a roster move with the All-Star break coming up.

Sat Jun 18 201100:44Orioles recall RHP Bergesen from Triple-A
Orioles recalled RHP Brad Bergesen from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bergesen could get the call Tuesday if Jeremy Guthrie needs to miss time with a back injury. Otherwise, he'll pitch out of the bullpen. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 5.36 ERA and 31/15 K/BB ratio over 50 1/3 innings at the major league level this season.

Fri Jun 17 201111:15Brad Bergesen would likely replace Guthrie
If Jeremy Guthrie (back) has to go on the disabled list, Brad Bergesen is the most likely candidate to take his spot in the rotation.
Left-hander reliever Pedro Viola would take Guthrie's spot in the short-term, but it would be Bergesen that would probably replace him in the rotation. The right-hander has posted a 1.64 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Norfolk since being sent down late last month. Mitch Atkins, who has a 3.18 ERA in five starts for Norfolk, is another option.

Sun May 29 201108:18Brad Bergesen sent down
Orioles optioned RHP Brad Bergesen to Triple-A Norfolk.
Bergesen went 1-6 with a 5.36 ERA in 10 games -- nine starts -- for the Orioles. He'll clear a spot in the rotation for Brian Matusz, who is expected to be activated from the DL to make his season debut Wednesday. Bergesen will be back at some point, but it might be as a reliever.

Fri May 20 201108:31Bergesen's roster spot in danger
The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly believes Brad Bergesen's roster spot could be in danger with the Orioles set to activate RHP Alfredo Simon from the restricted list on Sunday.
The Orioles beat writer thinks both Bergesen and Chris Tillman are in danger of losing their roster spots, though Tillman is still expected to make his scheduled start on Sunday. Bergesen's ERA rests at 5.64 after he got roughed up for eight runs in just 3 1/3 innings in a Thursday spot start. If you're still an owner in an AL-only league, you could take this as an opportunity to cut him loose, even if he ends up remaining on Baltimore's 25-man roster.

Thu May 19 201123:25Brad Bergesen blasted by Yanks
Brad Bergesen was blasted by the Yankees Thursday, giving up eight runs on five hits and three walks over just 3 1/3 innings.
Bergesen's last two starts are all the reason you need for why the Orioles can never count on him consistently over a long stretch, as he followed up a shutout against the Rays with this horrid effort. He's allowed three or fewer runs in three of his last six starts but gave up a total of 19 the other three times out. The owner of a 5.64 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, Bergesen will face the Royals next.

Sat May 14 201119:09Bergesen tosses first complete game shutout
Brad Bergesen tossed his first career complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Rays on Saturday.
Bergesen retired 20 of the final 22 batters he faced on the way to earning his first win of the season. He allowed only four hits while striking out five and walking just one. It was an impressive outing, but we wouldn't think abut using him against the Yankees next week.

Sun May 8 201116:50Bergesen has another bad outing
Brad Bergesen got lit up by the Rays on Sunday, surrendering five runs on nine hits and two walks in just 4 2/3 innings of an Orioles loss.
He recorded only one strikeout. Bergesen has now turned in just one quality outing in six starts this season, and is the owner of a 5.57 ERA and 1.52 WHIP as a result. He's not going to last in the Orioles rotation if he continues to pitch like this into the summer.

Tue May 3 201123:33Bergesen gets ripped in loss to Royals
Brad Bergesen got tagged for six hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings of work on Tuesday in Baltimore's 6-5 setback against the Royals.
He stuck out two and walked one. Bergesen hasn't won a game yet and sports a 4.88 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. He'll face the Rays next.

Thu Apr 28 201122:04Brad Bergesen solid in no-decision
Brad Bergesen pitched well in a no-decision Thursday, giving up just two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in the loss to the Red Sox.
One of the walks was intentional. It's a nice start from the right-hander, but the O's bullpen imploded and they also weren't able to muster much offense. Bergesen hasn't won a game yet but sports decent marks with a 4.76 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. He'll face the Mariners next.

Sat Apr 23 201121:54Bergesen allows six runs in loss to Yankees
Brad Bergesen was shelled for six earned runs in a six-inning start Saturday against the Yankees.
Bergesen allowed three runs in the first inning and another three in the sixth before he was yanked. The right-hander is now 0-3 on the year with an ugly 5.40 ERA. He will take on a tough White Sox lineup next week.

Sun Apr 17 201116:12Bergesen takes the loss in Cleveland
Brad Bergesen got tagged for six hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings of work on Sunday, taking the loss in Baltimore's 4-2 setback against the Indians.
Making a spot-start, Bergesen struck out three and walked none, but gave up solo home runs to both Grady Sizemore and Carlos Santana. He may have earned himself another outing with today's effort.

Fri Apr 15 201108:42Brad Bergesen to start Sunday
Orioles manager Buck Showalter officially announced that Brad Bergesen will start Sunday at Cleveland.
It's been the speculation all along, but the O's have held off announcing it just in case Bergesen was needed out of the bullpen in an emergency. He threw two perfect innings in relief Wednesday. Though Bergesen had seemed to fall out of the good graces of Showalter, the manager met with him Thursday to remind him that the organization still values him highly. "He's done some good things here, and I have a long memory," Showalter said. "I think he's in a good place. We know what he's capable of."

Wed Apr 13 201118:33O's recall Brad Bergesen from Triple-A
Orioles recalled RHP Brad Bergesen from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bergesen will be available out of the bullpen Wednesday night against the Yankees and is likely to make his second start of the regular season Sunday at Cleveland. He allowed five hits and four runs in three-plus innings last time out and can be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Mon Apr 11 201114:24Bergesen getting call-up in place of Hardy
Brad Bergesen has been scratched from his Triple-A start and is likely to start in the big leagues Wednesday.
The Orioles will call Bergesen up when they place shortstop J.J. Hardy (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list before Tuesday's series-opening game at Yankee Stadium. Bergesen allowed four runs in less than four innings in a major league start last week and shouldn't be trusted in fantasy leagues if he indeed takes on the Bombers.

Sun Apr 10 201112:15Brad Bergesen could be recalled soon
Brad Bergesen could replace the injured J.J. Hardy (oblique) on the roster and make a start this week against the Yankees.
Bergesen was just sent down Saturday, but he doesn't have to spend the required 10 days in the minors if he's replacing an injured player. The Orioles wanted Bergesen to go to Triple-A to work on some issues, but the fact is he might be their best option even if he's not throwing the ball well. The O's could also go with Chris Jakabauskas on short rest.

Sat Apr 9 201114:09Brad Bergesen optioned to Triple-A
Orioles optioned RHP Brad Bergesen to Triple-A Norfolk.
Bergesen was blasted for four runs over 3 2/3 innings in his lone start. He's being sent out so that the O's can recall Chris Jakubauskas up to fill in for Jeremy Guthrie (pneumonia), who needs a couple extra days of rest. Bergesen, who will start Monday for Norfolk, has a good chance of being recalled once he's spent the necessary 10 days in the minors.
