Sat Mar 2 201322:29Hairston, Schumaker may split time in left
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Jerry Hairston Jr. and Skip Schumaker may split time in left field if Carl Crawford has to miss the start of the season.
"If you're asking me today, just off the top of my head, those two guys kind of give me a left-right situation in left field," Mattingly said of the duo. The platoon scenario isn't ideal for the team, as Hairston owns just a .261 lifetime average against left-handed pitchers and neither player is much of a leadoff option. Still, with the talent up and down the Dodgers lineup, the situation is worth monitoring.

Jerry Hairston Jr. said he's likely to retire after the season if the Dodgers win the World Series.
"If we win the World Series, I guarantee you I'm going to retire," Hairston said. "You can't get any better than that." It would be the second championship for Hairston, 36, who also won a World Series with the Yankees in 2009. The veteran utility player is fully recovered from hip surgery and will occupy a bench role in 2013.

Dodgers transferred 3B Jerry Hairston Jr. from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move was made in order to create room on the 40-man roster for all of the players acquired in this week's blockbuster trade with the Red Sox. Hairston is done for the rest of the season following hip surgery.

Thu Aug 23 201209:05Hairston Jr. needs season-ending hip surgery
Jerry Hairston Jr. needs surgery on his ailing left hip.
The procedure will obviously knock Hairston out for the remainder of the 2012 season. The veteran infielder, who has been on the disabled list since August 12, wound up posting a .273/.342/.387 slash line, four homers and 26 RBI in 78 games this year. He should be fine by the start of spring training next February.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Jerry Hairston Jr. (hip) isn't progressing as hoped and could wind up requiring surgery.
"Sounds like it could be something like that," the manager said. If Hairston did go under the knife, it would likely be something that would end his season, but the Dodgers should have more on his status soon.

Fri Aug 17 201211:15Jerry Hairston Jr. MRI shows 'nothing big'
An MRI on Jerry Hairston Jr.'s sore left hip showed "no glaring tear, nothing big," according to Dodgers head trainer Sue Falsone.
Falsone added that Hairston is feeling "a lot better." The utility player, who was placed on the disabled list Monday, is expected to resume baseball activities in a few days. Assuming he has no setbacks, it sounds like Hairston has a good chance of being activated when first eligible.

Mon Aug 13 201217:13Dodgers place INF Hairston (hip) on DL
Dodgers placed INF Jerry Hairston, Jr. on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 12, with left hip inflammation.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly expressed optimism this weekend that Hairston wouldn't require a stint on the disabled list, but something evidently changed over the past couple of days. The Dodgers called up Elian Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding roster move and he'll likely be in the mix for playing time with Adam Kennedy, Luis Cruz and Juan Uribe at the hot corner.

Sun Aug 12 201211:29Jerry Hairston Jr. won't need DL
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly doesn't think Jerry Hairston Jr. (hip) will need a stint on the disabled list.
"I'm not thinking that at all," Mattingly said. Hairston exited Saturday's game with tightness in his left hip, but it sounds like the utility player is merely day-to-day.

Sat Jun 9 201222:38Hairston Jr.'s homer, 5 RBI leads Dodgers
Jerry Hairston Jr. had a big night at the plate on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a homer and 5 RBI in the Dodgers 8-3 victory over the Mariners.
Hairston Jr. blasted a three-run homer off Jason Vargas in the first inning, then later added a pair of RBI doubles in the third and eighth innings. He's provided a spark filling in at second base for the injured Mark Ellis, hitting .366 with a pair of homers and 15 RBI in just 101 at-bats. While he may not be a great long-term option, as long as he's receiving everyday at-bats, he's worth a look at middle infield in deeper formats.

Sun May 27 201219:38Jerry Hairston goes 5-for-5 in Dodgers' win
Batting third for the first time in his career, Jerry Hairston Jr. had his first career five-hit game Sunday against the Astros.
It seems like everything Don Mattingly tries is working out this year. Hairston had never hit higher than fifth this season. He had never started out in the third spot in 1,289 games as a major leaguer. Still, that's where Mattingly put him today and he's reponded with one of the best games of his career. He's now hitting .381 in 63 at-bats this season.

Dodgers placed INF Jerry Hairston, Jr. on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 7, with a left hamstring strain.
Hairston strained his hamstring while running to first base during Sunday's game. He hoped to avoid a stint on the disabled list, but the Dodgers couldn't go short-handed on their bench any longer. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Jerry Hairston Jr. (hamstring) is doing "a lot better than we thought he was going to be."
Hairston, who pulled his left hamstring Sunday, is considered day-to-day, and it appears that a stint on the disabled list won't be needed. He's been a nice player for the Dodgers so far, hitting .315/.403/.463 over 54 at-bats.

Sun May 6 201217:34Hairston Jr. (hamstring) leaves Sunday's game
Jerry Hairston Jr. left Sunday's game against the Cubs after appearing to injure his left hamstring running out a ground ball.
Hairston had to be helped off the field. He was replaced by Adam Kennedy. Until we hear more, consider Hairston day-to-day. If the injury is more severe than it appeared, it would be a blow to the Dodgers. Hairston has unexpectedly been one of the team's best hitters thus far.

Fri May 4 201217:52Jerry Hairston collects three hits, first HR
Jerry Hairston Jr. went 3-for-4 and hit his first homer Friday against the Cubs.
Hairston has been the Dodgers' fourth-best hitter so far, and he probably should be playing third regularly over Juan Uribe. While Hairston will surely cool off soon, he has a long way to fall before he'd have to worry about being worse than Uribe.

Mon Dec 5 201121:50Jerry Hairston Jr. deal becomes official
Dodgers signed INF-OF Jerry Hairston Jr. to a two-year, $6 million contract.
Hairston has passed a physical, making the deal official. He will earn $2.25 million in 2012 and $3.75 million in 2013, which is quite a coup for the 35-year-old given that his previous career high for earnings in a year was $2.5 million, and that came back in 2006. He'll provide depth at second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions.

Mon Dec 5 201118:27Hairston Jr. inks two-year deal with Dodgers
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Dodgers have signed Jerry Hairston Jr. to a two-year, $6 million contract.
The deal also includes some incentives. Hairston is a fine utility player, but that's a pretty big chunk of change for him. He'll back up at second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions and would be an option to start at short if it turns out that Dee Gordon needs some more seasoning. Hairston, 35, batted .270/.344/.383 with five home runs and 31 RBI over 376 plate appearances with Washington and Milwaukee this season.

Mon Dec 5 201118:12Dodgers closing in on Jerry Hairston Jr.?
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Dodgers could be close to signing Jerry Hairston Jr. to a two-year, $6 million contract.
That's a lot to be paying a utility player, as the Dodgers already have Mark Ellis locked in at second base and Dee Gordon at shortstop. The Brewers want to bring Hairston back, but they're smartly not willing to go beyond one year for him. The Giants also considered him but have bowed out.
