Johnson was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a left hand infection.
Johnson was admitted to the hospital Sunday to help alleviate the swelling on his infected hand, but the condition has not had significant improvement and he has been placed on the disabled list as a result. He will see a hand specialist in Cleveland on Wednesday to determine how long he will be sidelined.

The Indians will monitor Johnson (finger) over the next 24 hours to determine whether he may need to go on the DL, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Johnson went to the hospital Sunday and received antibiotics to treat what's believed to be a spider bite on his left hand. The team suggested initially that Johnson wouldn't miss much time, but it seems the swelling is not going down as quickly as expected. He's out of the lineup Monday for a third straight day.
Mon Aug 17 201515:59Johnson (finger) remains out of lineup Monday against Red Sox
Johnson (finger) remains out of the lineup Monday against the Red Sox, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Mike Aviles will start at third base and bat ninth as Johnson sits for the third straight day. The team does not expect Johnson to have to miss much time with the swollen finger, but his status for Tuesday's game against lefty Eduardo Rodriguez is uncertain. Johnson hit third the last time he faced a lefty, but that may have just been a one-off appearance with Michael Brantley out for that contest.

Johnson was unavailable for Sunday's game against the Twins due to a swollen finger, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Johnson said he was bitten by a bug recently on the left index finger, which resulted in some unfortunate swelling that required a wrap. Though he's experiencing a little bit of pain while he swings the bat, the Indians are only listing Johnson as day-to-day and don't expect him to miss much time.
Sun Aug 16 201512:07Johnson out of lineup Sunday against Twins
Johnson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Johnson made five starts in a row at one point since his acquisition, but will now have sat back-to-back contests. Carlos Santana will return to cover first base, while Ryan Raburn gets the nod at DH.
Wed Aug 12 201518:13Johnson will bat third against Yankees on Wednesday
Johnson will bat third against the Yankees on Wednesday.
He's been hot since joining Cleveland, collecting seven hits (including two doubles) in nine at-bats, and will get an opportunity in the No. 3 spot Wednesday with Michael Brantley out and the Indians facing a lefty (CC Sabathia). Johnson is batting .333/.354/.413 against left-handed pitching this season, and just .222/.264/.323 against right-handers.

Johnson went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Sunday's game against the Twins.
Johnson got the nod at first base in his first start for the Indians and hit eighth in the order. He will likely see more playing time after coming over from Atlanta, but Johnson carries little fantasy value at the moment.
Fri Aug 7 201515:29Johnson traded from Braves to Indians on Thursday
Johnson was traded from the Braves to the Indians on Thursday.
Johnson was likely just a salary dump for the Braves, receiving Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and cash in return. The veteran infielder will provide some depth at the corner infield spots, but could see more playing time following the move.
Thu Aug 6 201514:49Johnson out of lineup Thursday against Marlins
Johnson is out of the lineup Thursday against the Marlins.
Johnson is expected to take over the primary duties at first base following Freddie Freeman's placement on the disabled list, but a 1-for-7 effort with five strikeouts in the past two games may have played into his absence Thursday. Joey Terdoslavich will start at first base and bat sixth for the Braves in his place.

Johnson is in the lineup at first base Tuesday against the Giants, and he figures to see increased playing time in the absence of Freddie Freeman (oblique).
With Freeman hitting the DL on Tuesday, Johnson should step in as the primary first baseman for at least the next two weeks. He's hitting only .240 with 11 RBI on the year, but he's proven capable of producing at a productive level - .263 with 58 RBI in 2014; .321 with 68 RBI in 2013 - when given consistent playing time.
Mon Jul 27 201516:28Johnson remains out of lineup Monday against Orioles
Johnson remains out of the lineup Monday against the Orioles.
Johnson will sit for the second straight game Monday following a tough stretch at the plate. The Braves will once again turn to Adonis Garcia at the position Monday, and he'll bat fifth for the club.
Sun Jul 26 201512:21Johnson out of lineup Sunday against Cardinals
Johnson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.
After the Braves shipped Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson to the Mets earlier this weekend, Johnson now sits as the top third-base option on the depth chart. Johnson will yield Sunday's start to Adonis Garcia, but he's still expected to see the bulk of the at-bats at third base, unless the Braves decide to ship to a playoff contender as well before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.
It was the second three-hit performance of the season for Johnson, who is batting .252. Johnson's usage has been on the decline of late with Juan Uribe assuming a near-everyday role at third base and Kelly Johnson seeing most of the at-bats at first base in place of the injured Freddie Freeman, but Thursday's performance may have allowed him to build up some goodwill with manager Fredi Gonzalez.
Wed Jun 24 201515:09Johnson not in lineup Wednesday against Nationals
Johnson is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.
Johnson's playing time has been sporadic in June, and he'll sit for the third time in four games after notching the start at first base in Tuesday's loss to Washington.
Sat May 30 201519:09Johnson not in lineup Saturday against Giants
Johnson is not in the lineup Saturday against the Giants.
Saturday marks Johnson's third time on the bench in the four days since he was activated from the DL. It would seem Juan Uribe, whom the Braves acquired from Los Angeles earlier in the week, is currently manager Fredi Gonzalez's preferred option at third base.
Wed May 27 201518:54Johnson not in lineup Wednesday against Dodgers
Johnson is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Johnson was activated from the DL on Wednesday after a brief two-game rehab assignment, but will not immediately slot back into the starting lineup. Instead, manager Fredi Gonzalez will go with the newly-acquired Juan Uribe at the hot corner in the series finale against Los Angeles. The two players figure to be deployed in some sort of timeshare moving forward, though team hasn't indicated how the playing time will divvy up exactly.
Wed May 27 201513:46Johnson (hand) will be activated from disabled list Wednesday
Johnson (hand) will be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.
Both Johnson and Juan Uribe should be available for the Braves Wednesday in Los Angeles, so it will be interesting to see who gets the start. With Uribe's arrival, Johnson should be viewed as a part-time player for now.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Johnson (hand) could return before Thursday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Thursday is the tentative target date for Johnson, who kicks off a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. However, Gonzalez left the door open for the third baseman to return a bit sooner than anticipated if he shows no ill effects from the injury. Look for Johnson to return to the primary role with Atlanta, though Alberto Callaspo will likely remain involved at the position.
Sun May 24 201513:43Chris Johnson: (Hand) Nearing Return
Johnson (hand) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Johnson hasn't seen live game action since suffering a fractured left hand April 30, but is scheduled to play three rehab games before joining the Braves in San Francisco on Thursday. He took batting practice at Turner Field on Sunday after playing in extended spring games over the weekend, and doesn't appear to be experiencing any lingering effects. Upon his return, Johnson could cut into the playing time of Alberto Callaspo at third base.
Sun May 24 201511:43Chris Johnson: (Hand) Nearing Return
Atlanta Braves third baseman Chris Johnson will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday while recovering from a hand injury, according to the team's official web site.
Atlanta Braves third baseman Chris Johnson will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday while recovering from a hand injury, according to the team's official web site. Johnson has not played since suffering the injury Apr. 30, but could be ready to play as early as Thursday against the San Francisco Giants after playing in three rehab games. “He came up (to Atlanta) and met with Dr. Lourie, who gave him the OK to ramp up the rehab stuff,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “So I think, without getting into detail, he’s started hitting off the tee, then it’s the normal batting practice, then get him a couple of at-bats in extended spring (training games)." There is no word on who will start at third base when Johnson returns, but he could potentially take playing time away from Alberto Callaspo.
