Johnson was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a left hand infection.

Johnson was admitted to the hospital Sunday to help alleviate the swelling on his infected hand, but the condition has not had significant improvement and he has been placed on the disabled list as a result. He will see a hand specialist in Cleveland on Wednesday to determine how long he will be sidelined.

The Indians will monitor Johnson (finger) over the next 24 hours to determine whether he may need to go on the DL, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Johnson went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Sunday's game against the Twins.

Johnson got the nod at first base in his first start for the Indians and hit eighth in the order. He will likely see more playing time after coming over from Atlanta, but Johnson carries little fantasy value at the moment.

Johnson was traded from the Braves to the Indians on Thursday.

Johnson was likely just a salary dump for the Braves, receiving Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and cash in return. The veteran infielder will provide some depth at the corner infield spots, but could see more playing time following the move.

Johnson is out of the lineup Thursday against the Marlins.

Johnson is expected to take over the primary duties at first base following Freddie Freeman's placement on the disabled list, but a 1-for-7 effort with five strikeouts in the past two games may have played into his absence Thursday. Joey Terdoslavich will start at first base and bat sixth for the Braves in his place.

Johnson is in the lineup at first base Tuesday against the Giants, and he figures to see increased playing time in the absence of Freddie Freeman (oblique).

With Freeman hitting the DL on Tuesday, Johnson should step in as the primary first baseman for at least the next two weeks. He's hitting only .240 with 11 RBI on the year, but he's proven capable of producing at a productive level - .263 with 58 RBI in 2014; .321 with 68 RBI in 2013 - when given consistent playing time.

Johnson remains out of the lineup Monday against the Orioles.

Johnson will sit for the second straight game Monday following a tough stretch at the plate. The Braves will once again turn to Adonis Garcia at the position Monday, and he'll bat fifth for the club.

After the Braves shipped Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson to the Mets earlier this weekend, Johnson now sits as the top third-base option on the depth chart. Johnson's playing time has been sporadic in June, and he'll sit for the third time in four games after notching the start at first base in Tuesday's loss to Washington.

Saturday marks Johnson's third time on the bench in the four days since he was activated from the DL. It would seem Juan Uribe, whom the Braves acquired from Los Angeles earlier in the week, is currently manager Fredi Gonzalez's preferred option at third base.
