Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will make another rehab start on Tuesday.

Sun May 4 201410:58Wandy (knee) to remain on rehab assignment
Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will remain on his rehab assignment for now.
Rodriguez hasn't had a setback, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Sunday that the left-hander "needs more time." The southpaw allowed four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 frames for Double-A Altoona on Thursday. Jeff Locke will occupy Rodriguez's rotation spot for now.

Thu May 1 201420:14Wandy Rodriguez struggles in rehab start
Wandy Rodriguez (knee) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 frames in a rehab start with Double-A Altoona Thursday.
It's certainly not an ideal performance, especially after Rodriguez's struggles before going on the DL. It's possible he'll be activated to start against the Giants on Tuesday, but the Pirates might give Jeff Locke a start instead. "Wandy reported he felt fine after (the game)," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "We'll have to wait until we see him (Friday). The last time that this flared up, it flared up the day after he pitched."

Tue Apr 29 201419:09Wandy Rodriguez to make rehab start Thurs.
Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will make a rehab start with Double-A Altoona on Thursday.
Assuming the outing goes well, he'll rejoin the Pirates' rotation next week. Given how poorly Rodriguez looked before going on the DL and how good Brandon Cumpton looked in his first start filling in, the lefty's leash in the rotation doesn't figure to be very long.

Fri Apr 25 201408:33Rodriguez to make rehab start next week
Wandy Rodriguez (knee) is slated to make a rehab start around the middle of next week.
Rodriguez has been cleared of any structural damage in his knee and will throw another bullpen session Sunday. He could just make the one rehab start before rejoining the Pirates' rotation. "In the MRI, he said I can pitch like that. [The doctors] took blood out and put in cortisone," said Rodriguez. "Maybe later, when I retire, I'll need surgery on my knee. Right now, it can stay like that."

Wed Apr 23 201410:13Wandy Rodriguez has knee drained
Wandy Rodriguez had his right knee drained Monday before throwing a bullpen session.
"We're going to give that a couple days to settle down, then he'll throw a bullpen, and we'll move forward as he's capable of moving forward," said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. Hurdle added that it's "unclear" how long Rodriguez might be sidelined. "It depends on the guy. It depends on the age, what's involved. We'll just have to wait and see," the skipper said.

Mon Apr 21 201415:16Pirates place Wandy Rodriguez (knee) on DL
Pirates placed LHP Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with right knee inflammation.
Rodriguez has been a mess to start the season, allowing 17 runs in 20 innings over four starts. He has also surrendered a league-leading seven home runs. Rodriguez has struggled to throw with his usual velocity. The Pirates hope some rest will make their lefty better in the long run.

Sat Apr 19 201422:17Wandy Rodriguez yields four runs in 4 IP
Wandy Rodriguez surrendered four earned runs over four innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Brewers.
Rodriguez had nothing, topping out at 89 mph with his fastball while yielding six hits in his four frames. He now has a 7.65 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 20 innings this season, and it's hard to see the situation improving anytime soon. The Pirates may have to try someone else.

Tue Apr 15 201420:18Pirates eyeing Wandy Rodriguez's velocity
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle admitted Tuesday that the club is keeping an eye on Wandy Rodriguez's velocity.
Rodriguez is averaging 87.5 mph with his fastball, which is down about two mph. And not only is his heater down a couple ticks, he's been missing his spots. "The mistakes are getting covered and getting hit over the wall," Hurdle said. "It's a challenging time for him." Hurdle thinks Rodriguez could get his velocity back once the weather warms up, and the feeling is that the left has some leash before the club considers booting him from the rotation.

Mon Apr 14 201423:42Wandy Rodriguez gives up six runs to Reds
Wandy Rodriguez gave up six runs in five innings Monday versus the Reds.
Rodriguez gave up three of the 10 homers that were hit in the six innings before the game was suspended. He's sitting on a 7.31 ERA after three starts, and the Pirates are going to have to seriously think about moving on from him and giving Jeff Locke a shot before much longer. Pitching with an arthritic elbow, Rodriguez's stuff just isn't what it used to be.

Wed Apr 9 201423:10Rodriguez takes the loss against the Cubs
Wandy Rodriguez got the loss in Wednesday's start against the Cubs, allowing four runs in five innings.
The Cubs were squaring up Rodriguez well, victimizing him for two home runs. Overall, Rodriguez allowed nine hits and walked three while striking out six. Rodriguez is pitching through elbow problems, so starts of his caliber should be expected. He'll face the Reds on the road next.

Thu Apr 3 201415:18Wandy yields three runs in loss to Cubs
Wandy Rodriguez surrendered three earned runs in six innings Thursday in a loss to the Cubs.
Rodriguez yielded runs in the first, second, and third innings in an unimpressive 2014 debut. He struck out five batters and issued just one walk, but the balls he left over the plate were just far too hittable. The left-hander is trying to pitch with an arthritic elbow and the experiment is doubtful to go smoothly. The Pirates probably should have signed some reliable starting pitching this offseason.

Tue Mar 25 201417:50Wandy Rodriguez gives up three runs in win
Wandy Rodriguez allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings and homered Tuesday in a win over the Blue Jays.
The wind was wreaking some havoc today, but Rodriguez survived and recorded his first win of the spring. The Pirates have to be pleased with how he's thrown this spring as he attempts to pitch with an arthritic elbow. We're not convinced that he'll have much fantasy value, but he looks like a better bet now than he did a month ago.

Wed Mar 19 201423:16Rodriguez throws four good innings Wednesday
Wandy Rodriguez allowed one run over four innings of work against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
Wandy allowed four hits and a walk, striking out two in the outing. The run is the only one he's allowed in seven innings of work this spring. He's on track to be part of the Pirates' rotation come Opening Day.

Fri Mar 7 201417:07Wandy Rodriguez goes two innings
Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) pitched a couple of scoreless innings, striking out two, versus the Twins on Friday.
Rodriguez probably isn't pitching 200 innings or anything close to it this year, but he's giving reason for hope that he can be a part of the Opening Day rotation. If he makes it through the spring, he'll be worth trying in NL-only leagues anyway.

Sat Mar 1 201417:04Wandy Rodriguez strikes out two in an inning
Wandy Rodriguez yielded an unearned run in his inning of work Saturday as the Pirates and Rays played to a 2-2 tie in 10 innings.
Rodriguez struck out two and didn't allow a hit, though he did hit a batter. Rodriguez will have to spend the rest of his career dealing with arthritis in his pitching elbow. The Pirates are hoping he can serve as their fourth starter, but they do have alternatives.

Thu Feb 20 201414:34Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) throws live BP
Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) threw a session of live batting practice on Thursday in Pirates camp.
Rodriguez is taking a slower approach to his spring throwing program than most of the other pitchers in camp with the Bucs after ending the 2013 campaign with arthritis in his left elbow. He's aiming to be ready for the start of the 2014 regular season, but it's no sure thing at this point. Wandy was limited to 12 starts last year.

Fri Feb 14 201412:53Wandy Rodriguez on altered throwing program
Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) will throw once every three days early on in camp before being re-evaluated.
The other Pirates' pitchers are throwing every other day, but the club wants Rodriguez to get extra rest after ended last season with arthritis in his elbow. The left-hander looks to be in line to be ready for the start of the season at this point, but Opening Day is still a ways away.

Sun Feb 9 201419:49Wandy Rodriguez should be ready for spring
Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) said during the team's recent mini-camp that he would be ready for the first day of spring training.
The veteran southpaw was shut down in September due to arthritis in his elbow, but he has been working out at his home in the Dominican Republic all winter and insists that he'll be ready to go. Even if he is a few days behind, he should have no problem being ready to go for the start of the regular season.

Tue Jan 7 201409:51Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) has resumed throwing
Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) has resumed throwing and says that his arm "feels good."
Rodriguez was limited to just 12 starts last season due to forearm/elbow pain, but he said he didn't feel anything during a long-toss session last month. The veteran southpaw hopes to begin throwing bullpen sessions in a couple of weeks, after which he should have a better idea of his progress. Rodriguez exercised a $13 million player option in November and should be a part of the Pirates' rotation in 2014 if healthy.
