Xavier Nady did some light running Monday for the first time since straining his left hamstring last Wednesday.

Fri Aug 31 201211:28Xavier Nady to be promoted
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Giants plan on calling up Xavier Nady Saturday.
Rosenthal says the Giants have been "discouraged" about their chances of adding a "needle mover" in left field, so it appears that they'll settle on a combination of Nady, Joaquin Arias and Gregor Blanco. Carlos Lee would seem to be a fit, but he's already vetoed a trade to the Dodgers and might not want to go to the west coast.

Giants signed 1B-OF Xavier Nady to a minor league contract.
Nady was released by the Nationals last month after hitting just .157/.211/.275 batting line with three homers over 40 games. He'll give the Giants some decent depth, but they'll be in trouble if he's ever forced into a big role.

Nationals designated OF Xavier Nady for assignment.
Nady will be given an opportunity to sign elsewhere. His designation is not related to John Lannan's promotion as the 26th man for Saturday's game. He figures to go through waivers unclaimed, but could draw interest for a prorated portion of the league minimum.

The Nationals are expected to designate Xavier Nady for assignment Saturday.
Nady will be the corresponding move for John Lannan's start in Saturday's doubleheader against the Braves. Since no one is hurt, the Nationals decided to cut ties with Nady because his 20-game rehab assignment had been reached.

Mon Jun 25 201216:26Nats place Xavier Nady (wrist) on DL
Nationals placed INF/OF Xavier Nady on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 24, with right wrist tendinitis.
The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Nady is hitting just .157 with three homers and a .486 OPS over 102 at-bats this season, so it's not a big loss. Mark DeRosa was activated from the disabled list to take his spot on the active roster.

Nationals purchased the contract of OF/1B Xavier Nady from Triple-A Syracuse.

Thu Mar 29 201215:30Report: Braves express interest in Nady
Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the Braves have expressed interest in Xavier Nady.
Nady signed a minor league deal with the Nationals last week and is suddenly being considered for a bench spot, so he would only be a consideration for the Braves if he doesn't make the team. The 33-year-old would be a decent fit as a righty bat off the bench and has the ability to play first base and both corner outfield spots.

Nationals' manager Davey Johnson said Wednesday that Xavier Nady will remain in big league camp for the rest of the spring.

Xavier Nady will make his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday against the Mets as the starting first baseman.
Nady just signed a minor league contract with the Nationals earlier this month. GM Mike Rizzo originally said that he wouldn't appear in any Grapefruit League games, but the Nats obviously want to get a look at him in case Adam LaRoche (ankle, shoulder) has any setbacks before Opening Day.

Thu Mar 22 201213:49Nady to begin playing in minor league games
Xavier Nady will begin playing in minor league games Thursday.
Nady signed a minor league deal with the Nationals over the weekend, but he still needs some time to get into playing shape. It's possible he could be added to the major league roster if the Nats need help at first base or in the outfield, but he'll likely begin the season at Triple-A.

Sun Mar 18 201209:59Nationals bring in Xavier Nady on minors deal
Nationals signed 1B-OF Xavier Nady to a minor league contract.
Nady put together an ugly .248/.287/.359 batting line over 223 plate appearances in an injury-shortened season for the D'Backs in 2011. However, he's a career .275/.328/.438 hitter and could offer decent protection at first base should Adam LaRoche have any more shoulder issues. He's currently in minor league camp, though, and doesn't appear to be a lock for the Opening Day roster.

Fri Jan 27 201215:53Xavier Nady on Giants' radar
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that there is "mutual interest" between the Giants and free agent infielder/outfielder Xavier Nady.
Schulman says a potential deal would "almost certainly" be of the minor league variety that contains a spring training invite. Nady put together an ugly .248/.287/.359 batting line over 223 plate appearances in an injury-shortened season for the D'Backs in 2011. His career .275/.328/.438 line is much better, though, so he wouldn't be a bad bench bat.
