While the newly acquired Jorge Alfaro is the Phillies' long-term future behind the plate, look for the team to give Rupp increased reps in the second half to see if he can at least prove himself as a short-term placeholder until Alfaro is ready in 2016. Ruiz's fantasy value should only continue to decline as a result.

The home run was Ruiz's second of the season and the multi-hit game was his second in four starts. He might possibly earn a little more playing time if his bat heats up, but the Phillies will still give Cameron Rupp a healthy share of the starts behind the plate as they look to the future.

Ruiz will take the day off since the Phillies are going up against left-handed pitcher Alex Wood. Fellow catcher Cameron Rupp will take over for Ruiz and bat eighth.

Ruiz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and walk in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers.

The home run was Ruiz's first of the season and first since Sept. 5. He is hitting .221/.293/.273 in 172 at-bats. The Phillies will likely continue to split his playing time fairly evenly with Cameron Rupp.

The reason for Ruiz's absence is a bit unclear, but the Phillies will turn to Cameron Rupp behind the plate for a second straight game. However, Ruiz should continue as the Phillies' primary catcher barring an undisclosed injury of some sort.

Ruiz will take a seat for a regular maintenance day, as is typical Sunday afternoons. Cameron Rupp will man the backstop in his stead.
