Fri Mar 30 201221:12Moyer officially locks down rotation spot
Jamie Moyer has officially earned a spot in the Rockies' rotation.
Invited to camp on a minor-league deal, the 49-year-old lefty will occupy the second spot in Colorado's rotation behind Jeremy Guthrie. It's likely just a ceremonial placement, but a mighty feat for a pitcher who missed all of 2011 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. One of the oldest players in baseball history, Moyer turned in a 2.77 ERA and 11/3 K/BB ratio in 13 spring innings. It's possible Moyer's smoke-and-mirrors approach will not pan out in launching-pad Coors Field, but he's worth a flier in NL-only leagues. The Rox rotation will be rounded out by Juan Nicasio, Jhoulys Chacin and Drew Pomeranz.

Fri Mar 30 201220:00Moyer expected to snag spot in Rox rotation
Rockies' manager Jim Tracy is expected to announce Friday night that Jamie Moyer has won a spot in the starting rotation.
Moyer gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks over just four innings against the White Sox on Wednesday, but that hasn't done anything to change his standing. The 49-year-old left-hander has an impressive 2.77 ERA and 11/3 K/BB ratio over 13 innings this spring and could possibly start the second game of the season against the Astros.

Wed Mar 28 201220:15Jamie Moyer struggles vs. White Sox
Jamie Moyer had his worst start of the spring Wednesday, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over four frames against the White Sox.
He did strike out four. Moyer has been so good this spring that he was bound to have a dud mixed in eventually. The 49-year-old left-hander's ERA jumped up to a still-terrific 2.77, and he has a surprising 11/3 K/BB ratio over 13 innings. Moyer is expected to nail down the final spot in the Rockies rotation, and while it's a great story, we're not expecting much.

Fri Mar 23 201208:39Jamie Moyer likely to win rotation spot
Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post expects Jamie Moyer to win the No. 5 spot in the Rockies rotation.
It's no surprise, as Moyer has simply pitched his way onto the team with a 1.00 ERA and 0.44 WHIP through nine innings this spring. He threw four perfect innings Thursday in a Cactus League outing that might have officially cinched his spot. Manager Jim Tracy hasn't revealed the rest of his rotation behind Jeremy Guthrie and Jhouyls Chacin, but Drew Pomeranz and Juan Nicasio are expected to precede Moyer.

Fri Mar 23 201201:07Moyer goes four perfect in third spring start
Jamie Moyer threw four perfect innings Thursday in a Cactus League outing against the Giants.
Moyer didn't allow a hit and didn't walk a batter while striking out four. The 49-year-old left-hander is now sporting a spectacular 1.00 ERA and 0.44 WHIP through nine innings this spring as he aims to complete his comeback from Tommy John surgery and land a spot in the Rockies' season-opening starting rotation.

Mon Mar 19 201217:23Moyer knocked around in minor league game
Jamie Moyer allowed four runs on six hits over 1 1/3 innings Monday against the Diamondbacks' Triple-A team.
Moyer, who was scratched from scheduled appearance due to left leg soreness, threw 41 pitches while giving up two homers and striking out a pair. The 49-year-old left-hander is hoping to make a comeback as the Rockies' fifth starter, but he'll need to do better in his next outing.

Fri Mar 16 201222:34Jamie Moyer (leg) could return next week
The Rockies want Jamie Moyer (leg) to throw from the slope of the mound before returning to game action.
Moyer was scratched from Friday's scheduled minor league appearance due to stiffness and soreness in his left leg. If he is able to throw from the slope of the mound within the next couple of days, it's possible he could return to game action next Thursday against the Giants. The 49-year-old left-hander has a 1.80 ERA over his first two Cactus League outings.

Thu Mar 15 201220:10Moyer scratched Friday due to leg stiffness
Jamie Moyer will not make his scheduled start Friday due to stiffness and soreness in his left leg.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy called the decision "precautionary," but Moyer is 49 years old and any minor discomfort is reason for concern. The veteran left-hander will presumably throw a bullpen session over the weekend before attempting to return to action early next week. He has a 1.80 ERA through two spring starts.

Sun Mar 11 201220:42Jamie Moyer earns win over White Sox
Jamie Moyer allowed one run and three hits in three innings of work Sunday in a victory over the White Sox.
Moyer will be the sentimental choice to win one of the openings at the back of Colorado's rotation, and he's holding up his end of the bargain with a 1.80 ERA after two starts. It'd be great to see him make a successful comeback at 49.

Wed Mar 7 201222:27Moyer throws two scoreless in Rockies debut
Jamie Moyer threw two scoreless innings Wednesday in his Cactus League debut against the Giants.
It was a vintage Moyer outing. He topped out at just 82 mph with his fastball, but the crafty left-hander was able to keep the San Francisco hitters off balance by mixing in quality breaking stuff. Moyer is attempting to win the final spot in the Rockies' starting rotation this spring.

Tue Feb 28 201212:24Moyer feels good after first throwing session
Jamie Moyer felt strong Tuesday morning after his first throwing session Monday in Rockies camp.
"My arm feels good and my body feels good," Moyer said Tuesday. "I felt like I could have thrown another 30 or 40 pitches, so that was good. And I feel good today, and that was the big thing." The 49-year-old, coming off Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, is aiming to win a spot in Colorado's starting rotation this spring.

Wed Jan 18 201219:21Rockies sign veteran Moyer to minors contract
Rockies signed LHP Jamie Moyer to a minor league contract.
Colorado seems like the absolute worst place for a veteran pitcher to attempt a comeback, but Moyer likely didn't have a ton of options to choose from. The left-hander turned 49 years old in November and is coming off Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The Rockies are likely to give him a crack at a starting rotation spot this spring, but the team does have quite a bit of roster depth in that department.

Mon Jan 16 201217:16Rockies offer minor league deal to LHP Moyer
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have offered Jamie Moyer a minor league contract.
Renck reported earlier in the day Monday that the Rockies had offered a contract to a veteran starting pitcher. Moyer, 49, missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Rockies have a host of pitching options, but the veteran southpaw would have a chance to compete for a rotation spot during spring training. The Mariners have also expressed interest this offseason.

Fri Nov 4 201110:31Six teams have watched Moyer throw
Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com report that the Mariners, Rangers, Royals, Rockies, Orioles, and Pirates are among the teams that have sent scouts to see Jamie Moyer throw.
The soon-to-be 49-year-old, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, has reportedly looked terrific in a couple throwing sessions. "It was amazing," one scout said of a recent session. "He looked as loose, limber and free as he ever has." Although the odds of Moyer landing a guaranteed deal are probably long, he should have no trouble earning a spring training invite to compete for a rotation spot.

Thu Nov 3 201120:54Jamie Moyer (elbow) impresses again
Jamie Moyer (elbow) impressed scouts again during a recent throwing session in San Diego.
"He has a chance to pitch in the big leagues as a fifth starter and win 10 or 12 games," one scout told FOXSports.com. "He's throwing 81 to 83 miles an hour, but he still knows how to make you look like an idiot." Moyer, who turns 49 years old later this month, is likely to score a spring training invitation from some team this winter.

Tue Nov 1 201111:34Moyer throws for scouts, looks 'excellent'
Jaime Moyer threw for scouts last Thursday.
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the scouts said Moyer looked "excellent." The veteran left-hander is almost fully recovered from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and will be looking for a shot as a major-league long reliever this winter. There should be a few teams willing to offer him a spring training invite.

Sun Oct 23 201112:07Jamie Moyer still planning on comeback
Jamie Moyer (elbow) still plans on playing in 2012.
Moyer underwent Tommy John surgery in December of 2010, subsequently missing the 2011 season. He's not ready to retire, though, despite the fact that he'll turn 49 next month. The lefty has been throwing 60-pitch bullpen sessions and will soon contact teams that might want to watch him throw. He should be able to land a minor league deal, but he's far from a guarantee to crack an Opening Day rotation.

Mon Aug 29 201114:35Moyer to begin rehabbing in Clearwater, Fla.
Jamie Moyer (elbow) has begun rehabbing at the Phillies' spring training complex.
Moyer worked for the past several months as an analyst on ESPN's "Baseball Tonight," but he's nearly ready to begin throwing again and will set up shop in Clearwater, Florida for most of the fall and winter. The 48-year-old left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in December, 2010. He's aiming to be ready by spring training.

Thu Mar 31 201104:35Moyer's ESPN gig does not mean retirement
Jamie Moyer has joined ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" as analyst, but insists it reflects a hiatus from baseball, not retirement.
Not many 48-year-olds can take a hiatus from professional baseball and still be taken seriously. But Moyer remains committed to rehabbing from Tommy John surgery returning to the diamond in 2011.

Wed Jan 26 201122:52Moyer open to returning to Seattle in 2012
Jamie Moyer said Thursday that he's open to returning to the Mariners once he has fully recovered from Tommy John surgery.
That won't be until 2012, when Moyer will be 49 years old. It's far from a sure thing that the veteran left-hander will still be able to pitch at a major league standard by that point and it's also unknown if the M's will even have interest. But anything is possible. "I'm about three weeks into rehab," Moyer told MLB.com's Greg Johns. "It's probably be about a full year of rehab. My goal is to make a comeback in 2012. And maybe it'll be here in Seattle."
