Thu Jan 26 201216:04Lidge given 'enhanced MRI' before signing
Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said Brad Lidge was given an "enhanced MRI" before he signed his one-year deal.
The test came back clear. Lidge has battled both shoulder and elbow injuries in recent years, but he's been effective when healthy and will enter spring camp with the Nationals at 100 percent. They'll hope he can avoid the disabled list and operate as a reliable seventh-inning setup man throughout the 2012 campaign.

Thu Jan 26 201211:18Nationals sign Brad Lidge to one-year deal
Nationals signed RHP Brad Lidge to a one-year contract.
Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the deal is worth $1 million and includes some incentives. Lidge doesn't bring the heat like he used to and relies mainly on his slider to get hitters out, but he still managed a 1.40 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings with the Phillies last season. The 35-year-old isn't a good bet to stay healthy, but he brings some experience to the back-end of Washington's bullpen.

Mon Jan 9 201212:25Rockies not in running for right-hander Lidge
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was told by a source that the Rockies are not in on Brad Lidge.
The Rox have a very tight budget, and probably can't contend with some of the other offers that Lidge is currently considering. He's drawn interest this offseason from the Angels and Phillies, among others. The 34-year-old right-hander registered a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings last season for Philadelphia.

Sun Jan 8 201210:27Rox interested in Lidge at 'minimal risk'
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies remain interested in Brad Lidge, but "only at minimal risk" due to injury concern.
Lidge grew up in the Denver area, so he might be willing to give the Rockies a bit of a discount. At this point, he might not be able to get more than an incentive-laden deal with low guaranteed money, anyway. Lidge would be used in a setup role in front of closer Rafael Betancourt.

Fri Dec 16 201119:34Rockies in touch with reliever Brad Lidge
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have talked to Brad Lidge's agent.
Lidge grew up in the Denver area and still has a home there, so Renck hears he would seriously consider joining the Rockies. The 34-year-old right-hander posted a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings this season. He would presumably pitch in a set-up role in front of Rafael Betancourt.

Tue Dec 6 201121:32Red Sox check in on Brad Lidge
Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have "checked in" on Brad Lidge.
He also says they've looked into Jon Rauch, but Rauch is about to sign on with the Mets. Lidge has also drawn interest from the Mets, and the Rockies are likely to court him, as well. The 34-year-old right-hander would probably like to close, but, realistically, should have to settle for a setup role.

Sun Dec 4 201111:08Rockies will wait on Brad Lidge
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies will wait on a possible pursuit of Brad Lidge until they resolve Huston Street's situation.
Street is on the trade block, and if he winds up being dealt, the Rockies would then likely have room on the roster and on the payroll to add Lidge, who grew up in Denver. The 34-year-old would be used in a setup role, as Rafael Betancourt is expected to be the team's closer in 2012.

Thu Dec 1 201109:20Report: Lidge, Rauch 'strong' on Mets' radar
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Brad Lidge and Jon Rauch remain "strong" on the Mets' radar.
Lidge, 34, posted a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings this season while the 33-year-old Rauch compiled a 4.85 ERA and 36/14 K/BB ratio over 52 innings. The Mets have also expressed interest in Matt Capps, Frank Francisco, Francisco Cordero and Octavio Dotel among free agent relievers and Andrew Bailey and Huston Street among potential trade targets.

Wed Nov 16 201114:36Lidge willing to close or set-up next season
Brad Lidge's agent, Rex Gary, said Wednesday that his client would be willing to close or pitch in a set-up role next season.
Gary said Lidge is also willing to take a short-term deal, presumably to rebuild his value and test free agency again next winter. The 34-year-old didn't make his season debut until late-July due to arm problems, but posted a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings. The Phillies declined his $12.5 million option for 2012 late last month.

Mon Oct 24 201116:14Phils decline option on reliever Brad Lidge
Phillies declined RHP Brad Lidge's $12.5 million option for 2012.
An easy call. Lidge will receive a $1.5 million buyout and test free agency, though the Phillies have expressed interest in re-signing him. The 34-year-old right-hander didn't make his season debut until late-July due to arm problems, but posted a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings. It will be interesting to see if a team gives him another chance to close.

Wed Aug 3 201118:19Brad Lidge picks up save for Phillies
Closing with Ryan Madson unavailable, Brad Lidge pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Rockies for his first save of the year Wednesday.
Antonio Bastardo had the much tougher assignment with the middle of the order in the eighth; Lidge got to face Ryan Spilborghs, Eliezer Alfonzo and Chris Nelson and retired all three. Lidge has allowed one run in 3 2/3 innings since coming off the DL. Even though his velocity is down, he's given up just one hit so far.

Fri Jul 22 201110:51Lidge ready to return
Brad Lidge (elbow) is still hoping to come off the disabled list this weekend, though the Phillies have yet to make a decision about his status.
Lidge has allowed three runs while striking out 10 in 7 2/3 during his minor-league rehab assignment, and certainly appears ready to rejoin the Phillies. If he doesn't do so this weekend, he should by no later than Monday, when Philadelphia will wrap up its four-game home series with the Padres. It's highly unlikely Lidge will see any save opportunities for the time being.

Sun Jul 17 201118:38Lidge (elbow) pitches a scoreless 7th at AA
Brad Lidge (elbow) pitched a scoreless seventh, allowing two hits and striking out two, in a rehab appearance for Double-A Reading Sunday.
He threw 14 pitches, 13 for strikes. It was a positive step after Lidge had struggled recently on his rehab assignment. Lidge is hoping to rejoin the Phillies on July 22, though he's not sure if the team will go along with that plan.

Fri Jul 15 201112:03Brad Lidge struggles in rehab outing
Brad Lidge (elbow) struggled in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Lehigh Valley Thursday, allowing two runs on one hit, one walk, two hit batters and three wild pitches over 2/3 of an inning.
Even more concerning is that Lidge was topping out only at 89-90 mph with his fastball, which he was the best it's been on his rehab assignment. "Nothing hurt," Lidge said, citing the biggest positive. "I felt my fastball is the best it's been, but my control wasn't very good." Lidge is hoping to rejoin the Phillies on July 22, though he's not sure if the team will go along with that plan. The Phils want him to make a few more rehab appearances before activating him. It certainly sounds like he could use them.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Brad Lidge (elbow) could need six more rehab appearances.

Sun Jul 10 201113:51Brad Lidge to make rehab appearance Mon.
Brad Lidge (elbow) will make a rehab appearance with Double-A Reading Monday.
It could be his last, as Lidge is due back early in the second half. He's allowed one run over his first three rehab appearances and has struck out four while walking no one. He'll likely be eased back into things but should have a prominent role in the Philly pen before long.
