Thu May 17 201211:20Twins put Blackburn on DL instead of Doumit
Twins placed RHP Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad.
Blackburn battled the injury throughout Wednesday's start against the Tigers and was rocked for six earned runs in just two innings. The Twins need to get him right, which could take around three weeks. Blackburn has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through seven starts this season. It was originally announced that Doumit was heading to the disabled list, but he's merely day-to-day with a left calf strain.

Wed May 16 201223:33Blackburn dealing with sore quad
Nick Blackburn was battling a sore left quad throughout his start Wednesday night against the Tigers.
Blackburn wound up allowing six earned runs in just two innings to Detroit. The Twins can skip his next turn in the rotation because of an off day in their schedule and seem likely to do just that. The 30-year-old righty has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in seven starts this season.

Sun May 6 201220:36Nick Blackburn's woes continue
Nick Blackburn was knocked around for five earned runs over six innings as part of a loss in Seattle Sunday.
Blackburn now has a 6.84 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and an 0-4 record. There are no signs that his shoulder is acting up again, but getting lit up in Safeco is never a good sign. A home start against the Blue Jays on Friday shouldn't appeal to fantasy owners.

Tue May 1 201200:59Blackburn goes six innings in loss Monday
Nick Blackburn fell to 0-3 on the year after giving up three runs over six innings Monday against the Angels.
Blackburn surrendered seven hits (including a two-run homer by Torii Hunter) and a walk while striking out a pair. It was his first "quality start" in four tries this season. However, with a 6.64 ERA and 10/5 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 innings, it's tough to muster up much enthusiasm in fantasy leagues, even with a matchup against the Mariners this weekend.

Tue Apr 24 201223:29Blackburn pounded by Red Sox
Nick Blackburn struggled mightily against the Red Sox on Tuesday, surrendering five runs on eight hits in just three innings of work.
Blackburn struck out two and walked one in the game. The Rex Sox strung together five hits to score three times in the first inning, then David Ortiz struck for a mammoth two-run blast in the third. Blackburn's ERA now sits at 7.53, though his rotation spot may be safe for the time being due to injuries and Francisco Liriano also struggling. Still,it would behoove Blackburn to start pitching better his next time out against the Angels.

Sun Apr 22 201210:57Nick Blackburn cleared for Tuesday start
Nick Blackburn (shoulder) threw an "all-out" bullpen session Sunday with no issues and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has cleared the righty to start on Tuesday.
The right-hander left his last outing with stiffness in his shoulder, but evidently he's good to go now, as Gardy said Blackburn "doesn't feel a thing" anymore. Anthony Swarzak will move back into a long relief role.

Wed Apr 18 201216:07Blackburn (shoulder) hopes to start Tuesday
Nick Blackburn (shoulder) still hopes to start Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Blackburn left his last scheduled start on Saturday due to right shoulder stiffness, but an MRI came back normal. He threw on the field Thursday and has bullpen sessions scheduled for Friday and Sunday. Anthony Swarzak and Liam Hendriks will both make starts this week, but one of them, likely Swarzak, will lose their spot if Blackburn is ready to go.

Mon Apr 16 201217:06Blackburn (shoulder) will miss next start
Nick Blackburn (shoulder) will not make his next scheduled start.
Blackburn left Saturday's start in the sixth inning with right shoulder stiffness, but an MRI came back normal. While it doesn't appear to be anything serious, the Twins will proceed carefully. The current plan calls for him to play catch Wednesday, throw a light bullpen Friday and a full bullpen on Sunday, setting up his possible return on Tuesday. Anthony Swarzak figures to take his turn in the rotation this week.

Sat Apr 14 201215:11Blackburn day-to-day with shoulder stiffness
Nick Blackburn is considered day-to-day with right posterior shoulder stiffness.
It's possible Blackburn could miss his next start, but it sounds like he'll be able to avoid a DL-stint. With Scott Baker (elbow) out for the year, the Twins can ill afford another pitching injury. As of now, his next scheduled start is March 19 against the Yankees.

Sat Apr 14 201214:57Blackburn forced from game with injury
Nick Blackburn was forced from Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury.
No further information is available. Blackburn allowed two runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings before exiting. Brian Duensing came on in relief and is a candidate to replace him in the rotation if he requires a DL-stint.

Mon Apr 9 201219:21Nick Blackburn gives up five runs to Angels
Nick Blackburn surrendered five runs in six-plus innings in a loss to the Angels on Monday.
Blackburn was really a whole lot better than the 7.50 ERA suggests. Unfortunately, the five hits he allowed were all bunched today. Three of them came consecutively in the two-run first inning. The other two immediately followed a leadoff walk in the three-run seventh. Blackburn ended the day with 14 groundball outs and a 1.17 WHIP. If only he could have spaced out those hits...

Fri Mar 16 201216:19Nick Blackburn goes four scoreless
Nick Blackburn worked four scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Friday.
Blackburn has always been a very good spring training pitcher, so the seven scoreless innings to date this month is nothing new. He'll likely be a fringe AL-only pitcher again this season.

Sun Mar 11 201217:39Nick Blackburn goes three scoreless
Nick Blackburn scattered three hits over three shutout innings in the Twins' 5-1 victory over a Yankees split-squad Sunday.
Blackburn, who is coming back from surgery to move a nerve in his forearm, was making his spring debut. He's pretty much guaranteed a spot in the Minnesota rotation despite his poor performance down the stretch last season.

Fri Jan 27 201220:01Blackburn (forearm) on track for spring
Nick Blackburn (forearm surgery) said Friday that he's on track for spring training.
Blackburn had surgery in late-September to relieve pressure stemming from an entrapped nerve in his right forearm. Assuming no setbacks, he should enter spring training with a rotation spot to lose. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 4.49 ERA and 76/54 K/BB ratio over 148 1/3 innings with Minnesota last season.

The Twins are doing some housecleaning with their 40-man roster Friday, making a number of moves. Wed Sep 28 201121:21Nick Blackburn to have forearm surgery
Nick Blackburn will have surgery Friday to relieve pressure stemming from an entrapped nerve in his right forearm muscle.
He will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time, and his normal offseason throwing program will not be affected. "I usually don't start throwing until around Christmas so even if I didn't have the surgery I wouldn't have started throwing any earlier," said Blackburn. "So this will work with the timing because I'll be done rehabbing by the time I start throwing. So it won't be a concern next year." Barring any setbacks, Blackburn should be fine for the start of spring training.

Sat Sep 24 201109:19Nick Blackburn not progressing
Nick Blackburn will have another check-up in New York by Dr. David Altcheck after failing to progress from his forearm injury as hoped.
Altcheck examined Blackburn last month, when the right-hander was diagnosed with a strained right forearm. The good news is that Blackburn is expected to only need rest, as the injury is on the top of the forearm, not the side near the elbow ligaments.
