SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Giants closer Hunter Strickland apologized to his team, fans, and said he'd consider anger management counseling three days after injuring his hand punching a door in frustration after a blown save against Miami.Strickland is expected to be out six to eight weeks after breaking the pinkie on his pitching hand Monday. Sam Dyson and Tony Watson will be called upon for closing duties.Strickland has had several outbursts on a national stage. The 29-year-old right hander jawed with Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez during Game 2 of the World Series.Last season he threw at Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper three years after he homered off Strickland in the 2014 NLDS."I think that obviously my anger in these moments have gotten the best of me and caused stupid decisions, so I don't think I should be this angry person," Strickland said. "I think focused is the better word. We do have to be focused and locked in, focused on getting those outs."Strickland said he planned to address teammates later in the day."I'm responsible," Strickland said. "I'm not here to blame anybody on anything and I think that's the way it should be."Strickland had surgery Tuesday, in which two pins were put in his injured finger. He'll have more X-rays two weeks, when he hopes to have the pins taken out."That's out of my control," Strickland said. "I'll just do what I can, work hard and let the doctors decide the rest."

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Major League Baseball will come to Omaha for a day next year as part of an initiative to take the product to new places, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday. As part of the buildup for the 2019 College World Series, the Detroit Tigers will play a regular-season game against the Kansas City Royals at TD Ameritrade Park on June 13. The CWS starts two days later."The College World Series in and of itself is a great event with a great tradition," Manfred said at a news conference. "We hope by playing here we bring even more attention to this game and help strengthen our relationship with the NCAA and college baseball as a whole."Manfred said there's no commitment to play a regular-season game in Omaha beyond next year, but that possibility exists.MLB has played regular-season games in Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and also at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Little League World Series."Each of these events has helped focus... A look at what's happening around the majors today:BIG ARMS IN THE BRONXWith slugger Giancarlo Stanton heating up at the plate, the major league-leading Yankees (49-22) go for a three-game sweep of visiting Seattle. Luis Severino (10-2, 2.09 ERA) pitches for New York against lefty James Paxton (6-1, 3.44), who is 5-0 with a 2.55 ERA since the beginning of May — a nine-start span that includes a no-hitter in Toronto. The Mariners have lost three straight for the first time since April 17-19 against the World Series champion Astros.STRANGE TO SEEThree-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (10-3, 2.06 ERA) tries to avoid his first three-game losing streak since August 2015 when the Nationals host lowly Baltimore. He'll hope to get some help on offense from slumping slugger Bryce Harper, who went 0 for 4 in a rain-delayed 3-0 loss Wednesday night, dropping his batting average to .209. Washington manager Dave Martinez said Harper has been working hard with batting coach Kevin Long. "He's going... [More]

A look at what's happening around the majors today:NEED A HANDThe Giants are looking for answers at the back of the bullpen after closer Hunter Strickland broke his hand Monday night punching a door in frustration. Strickland blew a save in a 5-4 loss to Miami, then cost himself six to eight weeks with his postgame outburst. Manager Bruce Bochy said Strickland had shown maturity and progress keeping his emotions in check since a fight last year with Nationals star Bryce Harper, leading Bochy to feel "thoroughly disappointed" by this injury. Sam Dyson and Tony Watson will be called upon for closing duties, with one getting most of the opportunities, though Bochy didn't reveal which one that would be. The manager doesn't consider Mark Melancon — signed to a $62 million, four-year deal before last season to work the ninth — ready for the role after a series of injuries.KING OF THE BRONXFelix Hernandez (6-6, 5.44 ERA) pitches for Seattle at Yankee Stadium in the middle game of a series between... SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants closer Hunter Strickland broke his pitching hand punching a door in frustration after blowing the save and taking the loss in a 5-4 defeat to the Miami Marlins on Monday night. The right-hander had surgery Tuesday and expected to be out six to eight weeks, manager Bruce Bochy said. An X-ray after the game revealed the break of Strickland's pinkie, similar to what sidelined lefty ace Madison Bumgarner to begin the season after he was hurt in his final spring training start."I'm thoroughly disappointed, trust me. I'm crushed because this guy had just grown as a pitcher and a player and a person," Bochy said. "But I know Hunter, he cares. He cares deeply. He let his emotions get away ... he had a temporary snap."Strickland blew his fourth save in 17 chances and second straight, allowing more than two runs for only the fourth time in his career. He posted an apology on Instagram and Twitter."Life has an interesting and sometimes disappointing way of opening up our...
