Sat Jul 26 201412:59Mets place Daisuke Matsuzaka on disabled list
Mets placed RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation.
Matsuzaka flew back to New York on Friday to have his ailing elbow examined, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. Buddy Carlyle will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place in the bullpen.

Fri Jul 25 201417:16Daisuke Matsuzaka to get elbow examined
Daisuke Matsuzaka has flown back to New York to have his right elbow examined.
The elbow evidently must have been bothering him when he gave up three runs over two relief innings on Thursday. The Mets should have an update on Matsuzaka's status over the weekend.

Daisuke Matsuzaka has been moved to the Mets' bullpen.
He's clearing space for the return of Jon Niese (shoulder) from the disabled list. Matsuzaka posted a 4.24 ERA while striking out nearly a batter per inning as part of the rotation and could get another shot to start if Bartolo Colon (or Niese) is traded.

Mon Jul 7 201423:52Daisuke Matsuzaka goes seven scoreless
Daisuke Matsuzaka blanked the Braves for seven innings Monday, but he didn't factor into the decision after a three-run eighth.
Matsuzaka remained 2-3 through eight starts this season, with a 3.98 ERA in those games. He's a hard guy to trust, but he's giving the Mets all they could have hoped for. Of course, it is something of a fluke that he's allowed just one homer in 40 2/3 innings as a starter to date.

Daisuke Matsuzaka fell to 3-3, allowing five runs over five innings as the Mets were defeated by the Braves 5-4 on Tuesday.
Matsuzaka has been hit-or-miss for the Mets over his seven starts, either putting up a clunker or looking dominant. It was a clunker on Tuesday, as he allowed seven hits while walking three and striking out five. The right-hander will take his 3.72 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 54/38 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the Braves at home.

Daisuke Matsuzaka fell to 3-2, allowing five runs in six innings in Thursday's loss to the Pirates.
Matsuzaka had spotty control, walking four while yielding only five hits -- including a three-run home run to Gregory Polanco -- while striking out four. The right-hander has had good results overall, contributing as a swingman. Matsuzaka now has a 3.23 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and a 49/35 K/BB ratio in 53 innings. He'll face the Braves on the road in his next start.

Fri Jun 20 201423:05Dice-K takes loss against Marlins
Daisuke Matsuzaka took the loss Friday against the Marlins despite giving up just one run over 5 1/3 innings.
The lone run scored on a ground out from Adeiny Hechavarria in the first inning, but it was enough to put him on the losing side. Dice-K fanned four and walked one in the loss. With a 2.68 ERA, Matsuzaka has done a respectable job for the Mets this season despite issuing a bunch of walks, but he remains a risky option in fantasy leagues.

Sun Jun 15 201414:37Daisuke Matsuzaka exits with upset stomach
Daisuke Matsuzaka left Sunday's start against the Padres with a severe upset stomach.
Matsuzaka obviously wasn't comfortable enough to continue, but he'll be fine for his next outing. The Mets could bring him back on short rest, if needed, since he only threw one inning.

Sun Jun 15 201413:52Matsuzaka exits with apparent side injury
Daisuke Matsuzaka left Sunday's start versus the Padres with an apparent injury.
It appeared that Matsuzaka might have tweaked his side in the first inning, so it could be an oblique issue. He remained in the game to finish off the inning but was replaced in the second frame. The Mets should provide an update on the hurler shortly.

Sat May 31 201413:31Daisuke Matsuzaka to start Wednesday
The Mets will start Daisuke Matsuzaka in Rafael Montero's place Wednesday against the Cubs.
Matsuzaka, who picked up a win in a spot on Sunday, will get a chance to stick in the rotation this time. He's not to be considered in mixed leagues, but he should retain some value in NL-only leagues.

Sun May 25 201420:13Matsuzaka fans six in win over Diamondbacks
Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched incredibly well in a spot start against the Diamondbacks in the second game of Sunday's' doubleheader, allowing two runs on three hits over six innings of work.
The veteran right-hander walked one and punched out six on the day. All of the damage against him came in the second inning, but he settled in nicely afterwards and cruised through the next four frames. He's been a very solid addition to the Mets pitching staff, boasting a 2.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 30/18 K/BB ratio through his first 27 innings.

Sun May 25 201410:10Daisuke Matsuzaka to make spot start
Daisuke Matsuzaka will start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Diamondbacks.
He'll be opposed by Zeke Spruill, with Rafael Montero and Bronson Arroyo squaring off in the first game. Matsuzaka has been used exclusively in relief this season for the Mets, as his last start came a month ago in Triple-A. The club will be thrilled if he can get through five innings.

Fri May 16 201416:21Dice-K, Valverde would close Friday
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jose Valverde are the leading candidates to be used in a potential save situation Friday.
It comes a day after Collins said that Jenrry Mejia would be used in a potential save chance. Mejia wound up pitching in a non-save situation Thursday and it's possible the Mets don't want him pitching on back-to-back days yet as he transitions to the bullpen. Matsuzaka and Valverde are worth a look in deeper formats if you're desperate for saves.

Mon May 5 201423:14Daisuke Matsuzaka struggles in eighth
Daisuke Matsuzaka had his first bad outing in relief Monday, giving up three runs -- two earned -- without retiring a batter against the Marlins.
He should have had one out anyway -- Omar Quintanilla made a costly error in the inning -- but that doesn't excuse the two walks or the two hits he allowed. Matsuzaka entered a 3-0 game in the eighth and was replaced by Kyle Farnsworth with the score 3-3. Farnsworth saved Dice-K's ERA from further damage by retiring the side from there, with only an intentional walk mixed in. This definitely throws a wrench into any plans to make Matsuzaka the closer within the next week or two.

Thu Apr 24 201416:29Daisuke Matsuzaka picks up first save
With Kyle Farnsworth getting the day off, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched a perfect ninth for his first major league save on Thursday.
Matsuzaka had no problem maintaining the Mets' three-run lead in the ninth. It was his second ever save, the first coming back in Japan in 2000. He's allowed one run and two hits in 5 1/3 innings since his callup last week.

Wed Apr 23 201418:16Collins: 'no question' Dice-K could close
Mets manager Terry Collins said there's "no question" Daisuke Matsuzaka could close games for the Mets if needed.
It's not needed at this point, as Kyle Farnsworth appears to be alright, but it's interesting to know his name could be in the conversation should Farnsworth falter. Matsuzaka has been pitching in relief since being recalled on April 16, allowing one run over four innings while striking out six. He's a long way from finishing games for the Mets, but he's at least a name to keep in the back -- the very back -- of your mind.

Wed Apr 16 201413:21Daisuke Matsuzaka called up by Mets
Mets purchased the contract of RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Matsuzaka posted a 2.25 ERA with 12 strikeouts over his first 12 innings at Triple-A. The plan for now is to use him in long relief, but he could get a start if Jenrry Mejia (blister) isn't ready to go the next time out.
