Sun May 1 201114:16Brian Tallet's return not imminent
Brian Tallet (fractured hand) isn't close to being activated from the disabled list.
Tallet is dealing with a fractured right (non-throwing) hand and is still having issues catching the ball without pain. A return in mid-May still seems possible.

Sat Apr 23 201112:58Tallet to have stitches removed next Friday
Brian Tallet (fractured hand) expects to have stitches removed from his fractured right hand next Friday.
He had a pin and two screws inserted into the hand after he broke it while making a catch on catch April 11. Because the injury is to his non-throwing hand, Tallet was able to throw a side session Friday. His glove will likely be fitted with additional padding when he returns, likely in two weeks. "It's progressing good," he said. "But it's still sore. It feels kind of arthritic. Everything is still swollen."

Wed Apr 13 201117:56Cards place Tallet on DL with hand fracture
Cardinals placed LHP Brian Tallet on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.
Tallet suffered the injury on a collision at first base Tuesday during a relief appearance against the Diamondbacks. The Cardinals haven't made a guess as to when he might be back, but it could be more than a month.

Wed Apr 13 201105:20Tallet to be evaluated Wednesday
Brian Tallet (hand) will be examined by the Cardinals' medical staff on Wednesday before the team determines whether to place him on the disabled list.
Tallet hurt his non-pitching hand during his one inning of relief Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, when he yielded an earned run on two hits and two walks. It was the first run he had given up this season.

Sat Mar 26 201112:21Brian Tallet likely to be ready for opener
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was encouraged with the improvement Brian Tallet (groin) reported Saturday.
La Russa said Friday that the reliever could miss 3-5 days and is a question mark for Opening Day. It sounds like he's better than expected, though, and should avoid a DL stint unless he has a setback.

Fri Mar 25 201118:25Brian Tallet suffers groin injury
Brian Tallet suffered a groin injury while running before Thursday's game, which could put his availability for Opening Day in doubt.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Tallet "may miss three, four, five days." Opening Day is in six days. "If he can't do anything for three or four days. . . what's the certainty factor that on Thursday, you can bring him into a game and he'll be ready? I think there's a decision there. But it would be helpful if he comes to the ball park tomorrow and he's fine," La Russa said. If Tallet isn't ready, the Cardinals will likely go with another right-hander in the bullpen, leaving Trever Miller as the long lefty.

Fri Feb 11 201114:10Tallet throws off mound in Cardinals camp
Brian Tallet threw off a mound Friday at Cardinals camp for the first time in front of pitching coach Dave Duncan.
The left-hander signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Cardinals in late November and is expected to compete for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen this spring. He posted a brutal 6.40 ERA over 77 1/3 innings last season for the Blue Jays, but Tallet was still dominant against left-handed batters and the Cards can get a lot out of him if they use him the right way.

Tue Nov 30 201015:57Cards agree to deal with lefty Brian Tallet
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have signed left-hander Brian Tallet to a one-year contract.
Tallet refused an outright assignment to the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in mid-November and decided to test the free agent market. He posted an ugly 6.40 ERA over 77 1/3 innings this year for Toronto, but he was highly effective against left-handed hitters and could be used as a lefty specialist if he lands a spot on St. Louis' big league roster.

Fri Nov 12 201016:07Tallet and Wise elect to become free agents
Brian Tallet and DeWayne Wise have elected to become free agents.
Both refused outright assignments to Triple-A Las Vegas and declared for free agency. Wise, 32, batted .250/.282/.393 in 118 plate appearances this past season while playing all three outfield positions. The 33-year-old Tallet produced a 6.40 ERA in 2010, but he tallied a 8.6 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 against left-handed hitters. He might make for a smart, cheap signing by a team looking for a left-handed specialist this winter.
Mon May 31 201022:29Jays call up Brian Tallet
Blue Jays activated LHP Brian Tallet from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected, he'll start Tuesday's game against the Rays, though we're not so sure how long he'll stick in the rotation with Jesse Litsch and Marc Rzepczynski not far behind in their respective rehabs. Tallet was 1-1 with a 6.11 ERA over his first three starts before going on the disabled list with left forearm stiffness in April.
Wed May 26 201000:53Tallet (forearm) rocked in rehab start
Brian Tallet (forearm) was knocked around for eight runs on nine hits over 1 1/3 innings in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Ouch. Tallet threw just 36 of 61 pitches for strikes while allowing two home runs. Hardly encouraging, but he did toss four shutout innings in his first rehab start last week. The Blue Jays will not require a fifth starter until June 1 and will likely only need one just three times through the latter part of the month, so Tallet could be a nice option as a swingman. Jesse Litsch and Marc Rzepczynski are also possibilities to return next month.

Thu May 20 201021:35Tallet allows two hits in Single-A rehab game
Brian Tallet (forearm) allowed only two hits and no earned runs Thursday in a rehab start at Single-A Dunedin.
Tallet fanned four and allowed only one walk. He was placed on the disabled list after posting a 1-1 record and a 6.11 ERA in his first three starts and is likely to return as a reliever in early June or late July.

Mon May 17 201012:23Tallet to begin rehab assignment this week
Brian Tallet (forearm) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Dunedin later this week.
Tallet opened the season in the Jays' starting rotation, but threw up a 1-1 record and a 6.11 ERA in his first three starts before hitting the disabled list. He's likely to return as a reliever sometime in early June.

Tue May 11 201011:13Tallet expected to rejoin Jays in late May
Brian Tallet, on the disabled list with a left forearm issue, is expected to rejoin the Blue Jays by the end of May.
Tallet is throwing on flat ground at the Blue Jays' extended spring training complex and should step atop a mound soon for a bullpen session. He had a 6.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP before landing on the DL in mid-April.

Fri Apr 30 201018:54Tallet (forearm) could return as starter
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said that Brian Tallet (forearm) will prepare to return as a starter.
Gaston also said that a return out of the bullpen isn't out of the question, so with his return expected "some time in May," left-hander Brett Cecil may have enough time to secure a rotation spot.

Fri Apr 23 201023:16MRI on Tallet (forearm) comes back clean
Brian Tallet underwent an MRI exam on Thursday, revealing no structural damage in his left forearm.
He has been told by the Jays' medical staff to rest for at least a week before attempting to throw again. He was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday after experiencing forearm soreness following his last start. It's very likely that he will be gone for beyond the minimum, meaning that Friday's starter Brett Cecil will get a long look in the rotation.

Wed Apr 21 201016:08Jays place Brian Tallet on 15-day DL
Blue Jays placed LHP Brian Tallet on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18, with left forearm stiffness.
The Jays are hoping Tallet will only miss two starts. He first complained of the soreness after his weekend drubbing against the Angels and owns a 6.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through three outings this season.
Mon Apr 19 201016:55Tallet (forearm) to be skipped in rotation
Brian Tallet (forearm) will miss his next scheduled turn in the starting rotation.
Tallet experienced stiffness in his forearm following his start against the Angels on Saturday, so the Blue Jays hope some rest will do him well. Ricky Romero will go on regular rest on Friday, with Tallet scheduled to start next Monday.

Sun Apr 18 201014:24Tallet has soreness in forearm
Brian Tallet experienced stiffness in his forearm following his start on Saturday against the Angels.
Manager Cito Gaston said that Tallet's stiffness would be monitored leading up to his next scheduled start. Gaston hoped it was nothing to worry and that they would simply wait and see how he was feeling.

Sat Apr 17 201016:01Tallet goes five in loss to Blue Jays
Brian Tallet gave up four runs over five innings in a loss to the Angels on Saturday afternoon.
Tallet allowed four hits -- including two homers -- while walking one and striking out three. He has a 6.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over his first three starts this season. His skills are miscast in the rotation, so he should be avoided as a fantasy asset.
