Mon Apr 30 201216:38Vlad looked 'pretty good' in workout with AZ
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that Vladimir Guerrero "looked pretty good" in his recent workout with the Diamondbacks.
Heyman thinks there "could be an opportunity for him" with the Diamondbacks, though he would likely have to accept a role as a right-handed bat off the bench and backup outfielder. The 37-year-old batted just .290/.317/.416 with 13 homers, 63 RBI and a career-low .733 OPS last season with Baltimore.

Wed Apr 11 201216:36Vlad facing no charges related to bar brawl
Vladimir Guerrero's lawyer said Wednesday that the former major leaguer is facing no charges related to a bar brawl this week in the Dominican Republic.
Early reports out of the Dominican claimed that Vlad attacked a police officer and was involved in all-night chase with police. But that may have been a product of sensationalism. Guerrero, an MLB free agent, turned himself in Tuesday and was apparently cleared of any wrongdoing on Wednesday.

Tue Mar 27 201210:49Indians, Vlad Guerrero not a fit
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, "there doesn't appear to be a fit" for the Indians and Vladimir Guerrero.
Guerrero reportedly auditioned for the Tribe on Monday in the Dominican Republic. But the Indians already have a DH-only type in Travis Hafner and would probably struggle to find regular at-bats for Vlad. The 37-year-old free agent is thought to be considering closing out his baseball career in Japan.

Mon Mar 26 201217:54Report: Vlad Guerrero tries out for Indians
Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com reports that Vladimir Guerrero auditioned for the Indians on Monday in the Dominican Republic.
Ramon Pena, the Indians' director of Latin American Operations, was reportedly on hand for the tryout. Cleveland isn't exactly the best landing spot for Vlad, as the Indians already have Travis Hafner locked in at the designated hitter spot. The 37-year-old recently indicated that he would consider playing in Japan if he couldn't find an opportunity in MLB.

Mon Mar 19 201212:41Vlad Guerrero could play '12 season in Japan
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Vladimir Guerrero could spend the 2012 season in Japan if he's unable to secure an offer from a big league team by Opening Day.
Guerrero has struggled mightily to attract interest on the open market this offseason after registering a career-low .733 OPS in 145 games last year for the Orioles. His inability to play defense makes him a less-than-desirable option for a bench role, and most American League teams are already set at designated hitter. Vlad might be able to score a decent-sized contract overseas.

Wed Mar 7 201215:06Vlad still intends to play this season
Vladimir Guerrero's agent, Fernando Cuza, told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that his client still intends to play this season.
"He still wants to play," said Cuza. "He's waiting for the right opportunity." Guererro recently told a Dominican newspaper that the Marlins had interest in him as a bench player, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com was told that the team didn't see him as a fit. The 37-year-old batted .290/.317/.416 with 13 homers, 63 RBI and a career-low .733 OPS last season with Baltimore.

Fri Mar 2 201217:41Marlins not pursuing Vladimir Guerrero
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins are not pursuing Vladimir Guerrero.
Guererro told Dominican newspaper El Caribe that the Marlins had interest in him as a bench player, but Rosenthal hears that he's not a fit. His name was kicked around, but the Marlins are likely to go with either Aaron Rowand or Austin Kearns as a right-handed bat off the bench.

Fri Mar 2 201216:14Marlins interested in Vlad for bench role?
Vladimir Guererro told Dominican newspaper El Caribe that the Marlins have expressed interest in him as a bench player.
Neither Guerrero nor Marlins' manager Ozzie Guillen consider him a bench player, but the 37-year-old may have no choice if he wants to continue his career. Vlad would be a serious liability in the outfield at this point, but he could still have some value as a late-inning pinch hitter from the right side of the plate. Guerrero batted .290/.317/.416 with 13 homers, 63 RBI and a career-low .733 OPS last season with Baltimore.

Tue Feb 28 201223:22Jays not willing to give out ML deal to a bat
Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopolous told Jayson Stark of ESPN.com that he would be willing to add another bat if someone fell into the team's lap.
"If someone were to say, 'I want to come in to camp on a minor league deal,' we'd say we're open to [bringing in] pretty much anybody," explained Anthopolous. "But in terms of adding a free agent on a guaranteed contract, we won't be doing that." Stark heard a rumor that the Jays could have interest a right-handed bat like Vladimir Guerrero or Magglio Ordonez, but it's clear they wouldn't be promised anything in Toronto.

Mon Feb 13 201214:48Vlad wants Yanks' DH job, Ibanez more likely?
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, Vladimir Guerrero has let the Yankees know he wants their DH job.
Olney believes Raul Ibanez is still the front-runner to get it. But perhaps Vlad can shake things up by accepting an extremely low base salary. The 37-year-old posted a .733 OPS, 13 home runs and 63 RBI in 145 games last season for the Orioles. At last check, he was seeking a one-year, $5 million deal.

Tue Jan 17 201223:59Report: Yanks have heard from Vlad and Ibanez
Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday reports that the representatives for Vladimir Guerrero and Raul Ibanez have contacted the Yankees about their vacancy at designated hitter.
Davidoff's report also named Jack Cust, but one would assume he's no longer an option after reportedly agreeing to a contract with the Astros. Quite frankly, it's not surprising to hear that the reps for Vlad and Ibanez have contacted the Bombers, as they wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't. Recent reports have also named Carlos Pena, Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon as possibilities. With so many veteran hitters still looking for work, chances are the Yankees will end up with someone at a bargain rate.

Wed Nov 23 201112:50O's will not offer arbitration to Guerrero
Vladimir Guerrero will not be offered arbitration by the Orioles.
Not a surprise. Guerrero, a Type B free agent, earned $8 million this season while delivering an underwhelming .290/.317/.416 batting line to go along with with 13 home runs, 63 RBI and a .733 OPS over 590 plate appearances. With his production on the steady decline, the future Hall of Famer will have to settle for a one-year deal with a low guarantee. A return to Baltimore is unlikely, as they would prefer more flexibility out of the DH spot.

Fri Sep 23 201122:31Vladdy drives in 62nd run
Vladimir Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double and his 62nd RBI in Friday's loss to the Tigers.
The double was Guerrero's 29th of the season. Batting .292/.320/.421 with only five games left to go, the 36-year-old Guerrero has likely earned himself another year in the big leagues.

Thu Sep 22 201109:23Vlad hopes to play two or three more seasons
Vladimir Guerrero told Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun that he hopes to play two or three more seasons.
Guerrero, 36, is just three away from tying Julio Franco for the all-time Dominican hits record and one home run away from 450 for his career, but he hopes to build on those numbers over the next couple of seasons. "I feel I can play two or three more years," said Guerrero. "And I just need to work a little harder this offseason when I go to the Dominican and see what happens." As opposed to last season, Vlad has enjoyed a solid second half, but his .421 slugging percentage and .741 OPS are both career-lows. He will almost certainly have to accept one-year deals until calling it a career.

Thu Sep 8 201117:00Vladimir Guerrero homers, doubles twice
Vladimir Guerrero homered and doubled twice Thursday in the win over the Yankees.
It's the second time this month that he's had a homer and two doubles in the same game. He's slugging .459 since the All-Star break. That's not classic Vladdy by any means, but it is a big improvement on his .385 mark from the first half.

Thu Sep 1 201115:51Vladimir Guerrero homers, doubles twice
Vladimir Guerrero homered, doubled twice and drove in four runs in a losing cause Thursday against the Blue Jays.
It's the first time all season that Guerrero has knocked in four runs. As depressing as the year has been for the maybe Hall of Famer, we're not convinced that he's done just yet.

Wed Aug 24 201119:33Vladimir Guerrero scratched with wrist injury
Vladimir Guerrero was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup due to a left wrist contusion.
The Orioles haven't given any indication that it's more than a day-to-day ailment, so we'll assume it's no big deal. Jake Fox has replaced Vlad in the DH slot.
