Mon Apr 4 201102:02Treanor makes impact in opening series
Newly acquired Matt Treanor closed out the Royals' opening series with a bang, hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the 13th to defeat the Angels 12-9.
Treanor has hit safely in each of his first three games this year. But he's a career .228 hitter and has averaged just under two home runs in each of his first seven major league seasons. So don't expect his hot start to continue.

Mon Mar 28 201111:15Royals acquire Matt Treanor from the Rangers
Royals acquired C Matt Treanor from the Rangers for cash considerations.
Treanor no longer had a spot in Texas with Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba filling out the top of the catching depth chart. He should be able to get some early playing time in Kansas City, where Jason Kendall is struggling in his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Mon Dec 13 201014:09Rangers ink Treanor to minor league deal
Rangers signed C Matt Treanor to a one-year, $850,000 contract.
Treanor will serve as a backup to Yorvit Torrealba for the Rangers next season. He hit just .211 with a .287 OBP in 2010, but the 34-year-old is a strong defender and actually drew some playing time in the World Series. Not a great fantasy guy, of course, but a fine big league backup.

Matt Treanor (knee) began a minor league rehab assignment on Monday at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Treanor went 0-for-2 and was replaced in the sixth, but he caught five innings and the good news is that he reported no pain or discomfort in his knee. He's likely to return to the Rangers as a backup catcher when rosters expand in September. The 34-year-old has been out since July 23.

Wed Aug 4 201014:05Treanor not ready to return from DL
Matt Treanor (knee) will not come off the DL Friday when eligible.
The catcher has yet to crouch behind the plate to test the strained ligament in his right knee. He has tried running and squats in the weight room, though, and manager Ron Washington said Treanor is progressing ahead of schedule. He will need some rehab games, but it sounds like it will be a week or a little longer when he's ready.

Sun Jul 25 201014:34Treanor says he'll be ready when eligible
Matt Treanor (knee) thinks he'll be ready to come off the DL when eligible.
"It looks bad with the brace and the crutches," Treanor said, "but I've already started doing some strengthening exercises. The first week will tell a lot about how hard I can go at [rehab]. But in my mind, when the two weeks are up, I'm going to be ready to play." We appreciate Treanor's toughness, but the injury seems to be severe enough that we're likely looking at more than a two-week absence. Taylor Teagarden has been recalled and will back up Bengie Molina while Treanor is out.

Sat Jul 24 201016:35Rangers place Treanor on disabled list
Rangers placed C Matt Treanor on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right posterior cruciate ligament.
Treanor suffered the knee injury during Friday's game against the Angels and will probably be out until the end of August. Taylor Teagarden has been recalled from the minors and will serve as the Rangers' backup catcher. Treanor, 34, was batting .225/.304/.352 through 182 at-bats.
Sun Jun 6 201019:41Treanor homers twice in loss to Rays
Matt Treanor homered twice in a loss to the Rays on Sunday.
It was the first career multi-homer game for the Rangers' catcher, who entered today's contest with just 11 major-league home runs. Perhaps now he'll surpass Taylor Teagarden in the All-Star voting.
Thu May 13 201015:52Rangers' Treanor tossed from game
Matt Treanor was ejected from Thursday's game in the seventh inning for arguing a balk call on C.J. Wilson.
Treanor complained, but it didn't seem like the ejection from Bob Davidson was warranted. Max Ramirez had to replace him mid-inning.
Sat May 1 201014:36Treanor to catch Saturday's game
A day after he caught 12 innings in the night game, Matt Treanor will start behind the plate once again for the Rangers.
Manager Ron Washington wanted a veteran catcher to work with the floundering Matt Harrison, and given the Rangers' current catcher crop, Treanor qualifies. Treanor will get the day off on Sunday, and we'd be hard-pressed to say he doesn't deserve it.

Tue Apr 27 201022:38Treanor collects three RBI, home run in win
Matt Treanor went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a 4-2 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old backstop is staring at a golden opportunity, with Texas' catching depth chart beset by injuries and ineffectiveness. Treanor entered this season with a 232/.318/.311 career batting line, but now is .265/.324/.382 2010 in 2010 after Tuesday's big day. If he can prove to be even mediocre, he'll be better than what the Rangers have culled from the catcher's position up to this point.
