Sat Jun 9 201222:33Olivo blasts 3-run homer in loss to Dodgers
Miguel Olivo hit a three-run homer in a losing effort against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers on Saturday.
Olivo's homer off Kershaw in the fourth inning was the entirety of the Mariners offense for the evening. The Seattle catcher has been scuffling offensively since returning from the disabled list, hitting just .194 (7-for-26) with two homers and eight RBI in 10 games. While the run production has been solid, if he doesn't start getting on base more consistently he may be at risk of losing more at-bats to John Jaso.

Mariners activated C Miguel Olivo from the 15-day disabled list.
Olivo was cleared to return after playing three rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma. The veteran backstop returns to a .210/.229/.346 batting line over his first 84 plate appearances this season. He should get the majority of the time behind the plate moving forward, with Jesus Montero getting most of his at-bats of the DH spot again.

Miguel Olivo (groin) took swings in the cage, ran on a treadmill and made some throws at a distance of 90 feet on Monday.
Olivo will try to block pitches behind the plate in a few days and may begin catching bullpen sessions during the team's upcoming four-city road trip. The 33-year-old backstop is eligible to come off the disabled list in eight days, but he's unlikely to return until the end of the month. Jesus Montero and John Jaso will continue to split catching duties for now.

Mariners placed C Miguel Olivo on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Updating a previous item, Miguel Olivo was diagnosed with a strained right groin.
Olivo exited Monday's game in the ninth inning due to the injury. No official word from the team on his status moving forward, but a stint on the disabled list is a real possibility. Thu Jan 26 201215:03Miguel Olivo remains M's starting catcher
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Thursday that Miguel Olivo remains the team's starting catcher.
The Mariners plan to continue Jesus Montero's development as a catcher, but they are also focused on getting him as many at-bats as possible. The most likely scenario is that he'll play behind the plate a couple times per week, so fantasy owners will have to be little patient before he gains catcher-eligibility.

Tue Sep 27 201102:37Olivo hits 19th home run
Miguel Olivo homered and doubled in Monday's win over the A's.
Olivo took Jason Vargas deep for a solo shot in the fifth inning. Both Olivo's 19 home runs and 62 RBI lead the Mariners through the season's first 160 games. More than anything else, that's an indictment of just how bad the Mariners offense was this season.

Tue Sep 13 201101:11Olivo's 18th homer comes in loss
Miguel Olivo went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Yankees.
The home run was Olivo's 18th of the season, which is good for the Mariners' team lead by four. He's still the owner of a brutal .226/.258/.389 triple slash, however, and won't be someone to target in one-catcher mixed leagues next spring.

Miguel Olivo (chin) is available off the bench Wednesday.
Olivo isn't in the starting lineup after taking a foul tip to the jaw Tuesday, but he's avoided anything serious. "He's feeling better," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "He woke up good this morning and tested out good. I'm still playing Bard, but Miguel is available. He got hit in the jaw, but was just a little hazy there for a while," said Wedge. "We checked him out and he should be OK."

Wed Aug 17 201112:33Olivo exits after taking foul ball of chin
Miguel Olivo was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays after being hit in the jaw with a foul tip.
Olivo was hit with the foul tip in the top of the fifth and left the ballgame after striking out in the bottom of the inning. "He got his bell rung pretty good on that foul ball and he just didn't look right when he was swinging the next inning," said Mariners manager Eric Wedge. "I asked him before he went up there and he said he felt OK, but then he felt like he was feeling the effects of that afterward." Olivo was being examined by the M's medical staff following the game, but we should learn something more definitive about his status Wednesday.

Wed Jul 6 201115:00Olivo not in Wednesday's lineup
Miguel Olivo is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Athletics.
Not a huge surprise given that it's an afternoon game and Olivo was recently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but the encouraging part is that Mariner manager Eric Wedge said that he tried to lobby his way into the lineup. Josh Bard will start behind the dish Thursday and bat eighth against right-hander Guillermo Moscosco.
