Nationals optioned RHP Colin Balester to Triple-A Syracuse.
Stephen Strasburg is returning on Tuesday, so someone had to go. Balester, a former top prospect, was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in five relief appearances for the Nationals. He returns to an awful 7.27 ERA over 26 games (five starts) with Syracuse.

Nationals recalled RHP Collin Balester from Triple-A Syracuse.
Balester will be with the team for only one day and be sent back down Sunday so that Ross Detwiler can be called up to start. The former top prospect has struggled this season at Triple-A, posting a 7.27 ERA over 26 games (five starts).

The Nationals have asked Collin Balester to begin working as a reliever.
Balester was once a highly regarded prospect in the Nats' system, but has fallen on hard times. He posted a 1-4 record and a 6.82 ERA in seven starts at the big league level last season and had an ugly 11.47 ERA in five outings for Triple-A Syracuse this year. Matt Chico has secured his spot in the Syracuse Chiefs' starting rotation. Balester will report to Single-A Viera.
