Infante is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks with a Grade 1 oblique strain, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
Manager Ned Yost had said Infante would likely be out "for a while" after suffering the injury Friday, but this timetable effectively eliminates any hope Infante had of returning during the regular season. Ben Zobrist continues to fill in at second base with Christian Colon and Cheslor Cuthbert serving as the team's utility middle-infield options.

Manager Ned Yost said that Infante would be out "for a while" after suffering a left oblique strain Friday night, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
When Infante was excluded from Saturday's lineup, it wasn't immediately known how severe Infante's injury was, but the early indications seem to suggest the second baseman will be out for multiple weeks. The Royals will send Infante in for an MRI on Monday, with the expectation being that he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, likely resulting in his absence from the postseason roster. Despite exploding for seven RBI Thursday against the Indians, Infante's role was likely to be marginalized in October now that Alex Gordon's return from the DL has resulted in Ben Zobrist moving back to second base.
Sat Sep 19 201515:51Infante (oblique) out of lineup Saturday against Tigers
Infante (oblique) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Tigers.
The Royals lost both of their middle infielders to injury in Friday's game, as shortstop Alcides Escobar also exited after taking a pitch to the elbow. Both players will be out of the lineup Saturday, but with super-utilityman Ben Zobrist on hand and the infield well stocked with September call-ups, the Royals should be able to manage just fine with the absences. Infante is being regarded as day-to-day, but don't be surprised if he misses multiple games with the mild oblique strain.
Fri Sep 18 201521:06Omar Infante: Suffers Oblique Strain
Infante left Friday's game against the Tigers with a left oblique strain, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
A day after his monster seven-RBI game, Infante went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being lifted in the bottom of the fifth inning. It turns out he strained his oblique, and while a timetable for his return was not immediately provided, it's the type of injury which could threaten Infante's availability at least for the rest of the regular season, depending on the severity.

Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante suffered an oblique strain Friday against the Detroit Tigers, according to the Kansas City Star.

Infante had a career day on Thursday, as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and a career-high seven RBI in a win over the Indians.
Infante got a lot of criticism earlier in the season for nearly making the All-Star game thanks to Kansas City fans stuffing the ballots, but he looked like an All-Star today. He barely missed the cut though and rightfully so, as his numbers are far from spectacular. Infante now maintains a subpar .221/.235/.320 slash line in 438 at-bats this season.
Sat Aug 29 201516:35Infante no longer Royals' primary second baseman
Infante is no longer the Royals' primary second baseman, the Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough reports.
The Royals' best lineup, specifically offensively, does not include Infante, so Ben Zobrist will be the primary second baseman going forward. Paulo Orlando and Jarrod Dyson will split starts in left field until Alex Gordon is healthy enough to return.
Fri Aug 28 201514:57Infante not in lineup Friday against Rays
Infante is not in the lineup Friday against the Rays, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Infante had started each of the last seven games, and despite picking up six hits in that span, the second baseman is slashing just .134/.157/.239 since the start of August. Ben Zobrist will take over at the keystone, while Paulo Orlando will assume the left field duties.
Fri Aug 21 201516:06Infante (back) in lineup for Friday's game against Red Sox
Infante (back) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Scratched from Tuesday's lineup, Infante was forced to sit Wednesday and Thursday as well due to back spasms. He will return Friday to face lefty Henry Owens, but Infante has had little success against left-handed pitching this season (.230/.241/.327) and thus carries marginal appeal in daily formats. He figures to lose his starting job once Alex Gordon (hip) returns from the DL.
Thu Aug 20 201515:43Infante (back) remains out of lineup Thursday
Infante (back) remains out of the lineup Thursday, Joel Goldberg of FSKC reports.
Infante will miss his third straight game as he continues to battle back spasms, which began Tuesday afternoon. Ben Zobrist will again serve as the fill-in at second base.

Wed Aug 19 201516:36Infante (back) remains out of lineup Wednesday against Reds
Infante (back) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
A bout of back spasms resulted in Infante's scratch from Tuesday's lineup, and he's set to sit again Wednesday with Ben Zobrist filling in at second base. Once Alex Gordon (groin) returns from the DL, Infante will likely be squeezed out of a starting role, with Zobrist moving to the infield full-time.
Wed Aug 19 201514:36Omar Infante: (Back) Remains Out of Lineup Wednesday
Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante will miss his second consecutive start Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds because of back spasms, according to the Kansas City Star.
Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante will miss his second consecutive start Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds because of back spasms, according to the Kansas City Star. Infante will likely lose his role as a starter when Alex Gordon recovers from a groin injury, with Ben Zobrist taking over in the infield.
Tue Aug 18 201516:37Infante scratched from Tuesday's lineup with back spasms
Infante was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with back spasms, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Ben Zobrist is now slated to play second base, with Jarrod Dyson in left against Reds right-hander Raisel Iglesias. Infante's window to play everyday appears close to closing regardless of health, as Alex Gordon (groin) is set to begin a rehab assignment this weekend, and when he returns, Zobrist figures to man the keystone on a permanent basis.

Infante is out of the lineup for the second straight game Sunday against the Angels, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Infante will be swapped out in favor of Ben Zobrist at second base, while Paulo Orlando will be called upon to man left field. This will be the second straight day manager Ned Yost has used this second base/left field alignment. This clearly doesn't bode well for the playing time of Infante, who is hitless in his last seven games and batting a dreadful .158/.189/.267 since the All-Star break. When Alex Gordon (groin) returns to the mix later in the season, the hot-hitting Zobrist could easily ending up usurping Infante for the everyday second base job.
Sun Jul 26 201509:58Infante batting .179/.220/.308 over last 10 games
Infante is batting .179/.220/.308 over his last 10 games.
Infante has struggled to the tune of a .230 batting average on the year, but July has been one of the toughest months of the season for the Royals' primary second baseman. The Venezuela native hasn't hit for much average since arriving in Kansas City, and this year has been particularly troublesome. Plate discipline may be partially to blame, as his walk rate has dipped from 5.7 percent in 2014 to a mere 2.0 percent in 2015. There's no indication that the 33-year-old is in danger of losing reps anytime soon, however, as he hasn't had a day off since June 6.

Infante is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers, per Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.
Infante hasn't missed a game since April, so he'll get some much-deserved rest while Christian Colon takes over second base. He could probably use it too given how bad he's slumping. In his last 40 plate appearances, he's reached base just four times with no extra base hits.
Sat May 30 201516:36Infante will bat second Saturday against Cubs
Infante will bat second Saturday against the Cubs, Matthew DeFranks of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.
Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer will both sitting against a lefty (Tsuyoshi Wada), affording Infante a rare opportunity in the top third of the batting order. Infante is batting just .238/.248/.338 in 157 plate appearances this season, but he's 10-for-39 (.256 average) with six doubles against left-handed pitching.
Sat May 9 201518:49Infante 3-5 Saturday with double, triple and RBI
Infante went 3-for-5 Saturday with a double, a triple and an RBI.
It's his third straight game with an extra-base hit. Infante's .250/.263/.370 line on the season isn't impressive, but he should continue seeing regular at-bats for the Royals.
Fri Apr 24 201516:45Infante (groin) will return to lineup Friday against White Sox
Infante (groin) will return to the lineup Friday against the White Sox, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Infante has been sidelined each of the last four days because of the groin issue, but will finally rejoin the lineup Friday. Christain Colon will return to the bench, as Infante will likely retake his spot as the club's everyday second baseman.
