Eric Patterson delivered a two-run double in the top of the 13th as the Red Sox beat the Mariners 8-6 on Thursday. | ||||||
The Red Sox couldn't afford to lose this one after letting a 6-1 lead slip away in the ninth. Patterson entered the game in the 11th as a pinch-hitter for Bill Hall against righty David Aardsma. That didn't work out, as he struck out in his first at-bat. However, in the 13th, he came up again with two on and delivered just his second extra-base hit in 65 career at-bats against southpaws. He's slugging .512, despite a .220 average, in 41 at-bats for Boston. | ||||||
