Thu Mar 17 201117:32Jake Fox goes deep twice
Jake Fox went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers in Thursday's 13-3 win over the Pirates.
Fox is now batting .356 this spring and is leading the majors with seven longballs. He's slated to open the year as Matt Wieters' backup but could possibly play enough at a variety of positions to garner some AL-only value.

Sun Mar 6 201108:29Fox trying to make team as catcher
Though Jake Fox is capable of playing multiple positions, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Fox is trying to make the team as a backup catcher.
"I've moved him around just to try to get him some at-bats," Showalter said, "but his primary focus is trying to make this club as a catcher." That would mean he's fighting with Craig Tatum for a roster spot, though Showalter said it's possible he could wind up carrying three catchers depending on how the rest of the roster is constructed.

Sat Jul 10 201002:34Fox leads O's past Rangers
Jake Fox hit a go-ahead solo home run in a 7-6 win over the Rangers in 10 innings on Friday night.
He just barely eeked it over the left field wall, but it was enough to complete the comeback victory. Fox, who entered Friday's game as an injury replacement for Felix Pie, is batting .220 (22-for-100) with three home runs and 13 RBI since joining the O's last month. All three homers have come in the past five games. With extra eligibility at catcher in some leagues, he could prove valuable in AL-only leagues during the second half.
Tue Jun 22 201011:50O's acquire Jake Fox from A's for Ross Wolf
Orioles acquired 1B Jake Fox from the Athletics for RHP Ross Wolf.
Fox was designated for assignment by the A's last week after posting a dreadful .214/.264/.327 batting line over his first 98 at-bats. He's shown flashes of power in the past and the O's like his versatility, but he's probably not going to be relevant this year in most fantasy leagues. Ross Wolf is a 27-year-old reliever who was buried in the Orioles' farm system.
Tue Jun 22 201010:52Report: O's acquire Jake Fox from Athletics
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have officially landed utilityman Jake Fox from the A's.
The exact parameters of the trade have not yet been revealed, but Connolly suspects that the A's will get a minor leaguer from Baltimore's system. Fox was designated for assignment last week after opening the season with a .214 batting average and a .264 on-base percentage over 106 plate appearances.

Wed Jun 16 201016:49Report: O's have interest in DFA'd Jake Fox
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have expressed interest in acquiring recently-DFA'd outfielder Jake Fox from the A's.
Fox was batting .214 with a .264 on-base percentage through 106 plate appearances when the A's designated him for assignment this week. He can play a range of positions, including catcher, and that's why the O's like him. A trade or signing could mean the end of Garrett Atkins' stay in Baltimore.

Sun Jun 13 201019:28A's DFA OF Jake Fox
A's designated C/OF Jake Fox for assignment.
Fox has been playing all over the field, but he is a pretty terrible defender wherever he goes, so his value is predicted on pounding the ball. Unfortunately, with a .214/.264/.327 line in 106 plate appearances, he was hitting like a punchless backup shortstop and not a lumbering slugger without a position. Oakland may be able to sneak Fox through waivers, as his .293 career on-base percentage in the majors isn't going to make many teams rush to place a claim.
Mon Apr 12 201018:25A's start Fox at DH on Monday
Jake Fox will be the designated hitter against Ryan Rowland-Smith and the Mariners on Monday night.
With lefty starters on back-to-back days, Eric Chavez will take a seat. Though this suggests he could sit more regularly against left-handed pitching, Athletics manager Bob Geren doesn't yet see it that way.

Sun Apr 11 201012:24Fox gets first start behind the plate
Jake Fox will catch Dallas Braden in Sunday's game against the Angels.
Everyday catcher Kurt Suzuki has caught all six of the A's games so far and with a day game Sunday following their Saturday night game, this is as good a time as any to give him a break. This will be Fox's fourth start behind the plate in his career and first in 2010.

Thu Apr 8 201008:45Geren downplays Jake Fox in lineup
Athletics manager Bob Geren downplayed his inclusion of Jake Fox in the lineup as the designated hitter on Wednesday night against the Mariners.
"He's a fine hitter and he's going to bring something to our lineup," said Geren. "He's a nice complement to Eric at DH." It's worth noting that the Athletics were facing left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith so it made sense to give Fox a start. It appears Eric Chavez will still get the majority of at-bats, for now.

Wed Apr 7 201018:43Fox starting at DH Wednesday for the A's
Jake Fox is starting at DH on Wednesday against the Mariners.
Fox is expected to serve a variety of roles this season for the A's. His starts will be unpredictable, but he carries a big bat and should be useful in AL-only leagues when in the Oakland lineup.

Sun Apr 4 201014:06Fox makes Oakland Roster
Jake Fox made the Oakland Opening Day Roster and will serve as the backup catcher and corner outfielder.
Fox beat out Landon Powell because the former Cub had no options remaining, Powell had a poor spring, and Fox gave the team more flexibility with his ability to play the infield and the outfield as well. Of course, Fox plays poor defense at any position, but perhaps the A's wanted to take this chance to see if he can be their future DH once Eric Chavez moves on. His bat is interesting, and if he gets enough at-bats in his super-utility role, his catcher eligibility might make him a good pickup in deeper leagues. Watch him for now.
