Fri Mar 25 201119:04DeWitt finally homers, now hitting .200
Blake DeWitt went 2-for-2 with his first home run of the spring against the Mariners on Friday.
Hitting just .200 this spring, manager Mike Quade recently hinted there's a chance DeWitt won't be included on the Cubs' Opening Day roster. He'd do well to crush the ball this weekend as the spring draws near its close.

Mon Mar 21 201116:51DeWitt's spot on roster not safe?
Cubs manager Mike Quade indicated Monday that Blake DeWitt's spot on the roster is not safe.
"Right now he does, but there's some guys pushing, and we aint left yet," said Quade. It appeared that the Cubs were going to use a platoon at second base, but DeWitt is batting just .163 (7-for-43) with a 4/0 K/BB ratio this spring. Jeff Baker could very well win the job outright, while Darwin Barney has pushed for more playing time by batting .371 (13-for-35) this spring.

Fri Jan 14 201100:43Quade might opt for platoon at leadoff
Cubs manager Mike Quade said Thursday that he could opt for a platoon at leadoff this season.
When asked about having an everyday leadoff player, Quade responded, "I would say I don't think so - when the answer is `I don't think so,' then you do it by committee, mix and match, or maybe somebody this spring asserts themselves as this guy." Blake DeWitt and Kosuke Fukudome will get some chances to distinguish themselves in this role. Jeff Baker also is worth watching. If you're preparing for your fantasy draft, keep on eye on spring training; if one player dominates, he could become a buy-low, sell-high candidate as the season progresses.

Sat Sep 25 201016:03DeWitt drives in two in win over Cards
Blake DeWitt went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in a win over the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.
DeWitt entered Saturday's action with a .167 batting average over 60 at-bats this month, so it was nice to see him bust out. It was just his third multi-hit game of the month. DeWitt has a good idea of what he is doing at the plate, but he's not a solid defender at second base, nor does he have much power or speed to speak of. It's fair to wonder how much better he can realistically become.
Fri Sep 3 201017:06DeWitt hits three-run homer in Cubs' win
Blake DeWitt went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off R.A. Dickey as the Cubs topped the Mets 7-6 on Friday.
Well, Shea is out and Citi would be an odd name for a boy or a girl, but DeWitt is going to have to do something to honor the Mets at some point. He's hit five homers in 47 career at-bats versus the team. Against everyone else, he's hit 11 homers in 727 at-bats.
Mon Aug 23 201022:41DeWitt has three hits in win over Nats
Blake DeWitt was 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI in a win over the Nationals on Monday night.
Batting out of the leadoff spot for the second time this season Monday, DeWitt homered in the third, singled in the fifth, hit a sac fly in the fifth and doubled in the ninth. He's now batting .338 (24-for-71) with three home runs and 12 RBI since coming over in the Ted Lilly/Ryan Theriot trade. He hasn't shown a lot of pop this season, so his fantasy value is limited, but he would benefit if he continues to bat atop the Cubs' lineup.
Mon Aug 16 201023:42DeWitt homers in loss to Padres
Blake DeWitt went 2-for-4 with a home run in Monday's loss to San Diego.
DeWitt singled and scored on a Kosuke Fukudome double in the seventh and then belted a two-run homer in the eighth. It was his second homer in 15 games since joining the Cubs and his third longball overall on the year. He's batting .277 with 37 RBI this season.
Sat Jul 31 201014:35DeWitt heads to Cubs in Lilly/Theriot trade
Cubs acquired 2B Blake DeWitt from Dodgers.
He lands in Chicago along with a pair of minor leaguers, with Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot going the other way. DeWitt, who is batting .270 with one homer and 30 RBI in 256 at-bats this season, will likely share second base duties with Mike Fontenot and Jeff Baker.
Wed Jun 23 201002:16Blake DeWitt returned to action on Tuesday June 22
Blake DeWitt returned to action on Tuesday June 22.
Mon Jun 21 201008:38DeWitt lifted Sunday after plunking in knee
Blake DeWitt was pulled from Sunday's game against the Red Sox after being plunked in the knee by a Clay Buchholz pitch.
DeWitt underwent X-rays almost immediately, and they showed no significant structural damage. Monday is an off-day for the Dodgers, which should help the swelling in his knee subside. He's day-to-day.

Tue Jun 8 201001:23Dodgers' DeWitt knocks in five runs
Blake DeWitt drove in five runs with a homer, a single and a sac fly as the Dodgers topped the Cardinals 12-4 on Monday.
The homer off P.J. Walker was his first in 153 at-bats this season. He had 11 in 417 major league at-bats entering 2010, so it's not like he's without power. Since he's not an exceptional defensive second baseman and he hasn't hit for average as hoped, he'll need to knock the occasional baseball out of the park in order to remain in the lineup.
Tue May 18 201001:17Dodgers' DeWitt triples twice
Blake DeWitt tripled twice in the win over the Astros on Monday.
DeWitt entered with two triples in 515 career major league at-bats. He's been lacking in the power department this year, with no homers and six doubles in 102 at-bats. The Dodgers would probably benefit from giving Ronnie Belliard more time at second base. DeWitt, though, has done a nice job of getting on base.
Sun May 2 201018:46DeWitt garners four hits, three RBI in win
Blake DeWitt collected four hits and three RBI as the Dodgers trounced the Pirates 9-3 on Sunday.
DeWitt entered the day with just two extra-base hits in 60 at-bats, but added a pair of doubles to go with two singles today. DeWitt has done a fine job getting on base to clear the pitcher's spot, but the lack of power has become expected and greatly limits his value to both the Dodgers and NL-only managers.
