Mon May 7 201220:35Miguel Tejada passes physical
Miguel Tejada has passed his physical with the Orioles and is expected to officially sign a minor league contract Tuesday.
He'll first start working out at the team's spring training complex before likely joining Triple-A Norfolk. Assuming all goes well, he could be ready to join the O's in a utility role before the end of the month.

Fri May 4 201219:42Report: O's planning to sign Miguel Tejada
MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports the Orioles plan to sign free agent 3B/SS Miguel Tejada if he can pass a Monday physical.
Giddy up. Tejada received scant interest over the winter after posting a .239/.270/.326 triple slash with the Giants last season, but the Orioles must be getting impatient with their thus far inept third base duo of Mark Reynolds and Wilson Betemit. According to Ghiroli, Tejada would spend the "foreseeable future" in extended spring training if he passes his physical.

Wed Feb 29 201208:45Miguel Tejada wants to return to Athletics
Miguel Tejada told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he wants to return to the Athletics.
The A's recently lost third baseman Scott Sizemore (knee) for the season, so Tejada is hoping general manager Billy Beane will consider giving him a minor league deal. "I would love it," said Tejada. "Tell Billy to give me a call. I don't want big money. I just want to play." Tejada said he has become good friends with Yoenis Cespedes and believes the Cuban outfielder would benefit with him around. Tejada, who turns 38 in May, batted just .239/.270/.326 with four homers and a .596 OPS over 343 plate appearances with the Giants last season before being released in September. It's probably a long shot since the A's appear committed to giving Josh Donaldson the first crack at third base, but some extra depth wouldn't necessarily hurt, especially if Tejada is willing to begin the season in the minors.

Thu Jan 5 201212:03Miguel Tejada hopes to find contract
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Miguel Tejada is working out in Miami with renowned trainer Pete Bommarito in hopes of finding a job.
Tejada, who turns 38 in May, batted just .239/.270/.326 with four homers and a .596 OPS over 343 plate appearances with the Giants last season before being released in September. He can't play shortstop anymore and has a .660 OPS over the past two seasons, so a spring training invite might be the best-case scenario at this point.

Tue Dec 6 201114:59Tejada is hoping to receive a big-league deal
Miguel Tejada is hoping to receive a big-league deal this winter.
He's going to face an uphill battle on that front. Tejada was designated for assignment at the end of August by the Giants and drew no interest from other teams around the league. The 37-year-old infielder batted just .239 with four home runs and an ugly .596 OPS in 343 plate appearances for San Francisco this season. It goes without saying, but his "defense" didn't add any additional value for the Giants. A retirement announcement may be coming in the next few months.

Wed Aug 31 201113:30Giants designate Miguel Tejada for assignment
Giants designated INF Miguel Tejada for assignment.
Interesting timing considering that rosters expand Thursday, but after he complained about being asked to lay down a bunt on Sunday, we wouldn't be surprised if the Giants finally grew tired of him. Brian Sabean signed the veteran infielder to a one-year, $6.5 million contract over the winter, but he batted just .239/.270/.326 with four homers and a .596 OPS over 343 plate appearances with the club.

Tue Aug 16 201116:35Giants activate INF Tejada from DL
Giants activated INF Miguel Tejada from the 15-day disabled list.
As expected, Tejada will replace the injured Carlos Beltran (hand) on the active roster. The 37-year-old hasn't played since July 18 due to an abdominal strain. He has been taking grounders at shortstop and third base recently, which suggests that he'll function as a backup to Orlando Cabrera and Pablo Sandoval moving forward.

Miguel Tejada (abdomen) expects to be activated from the disabled list on August 4, the first day he's eligible.
Tejada resumed baseball activities Thursday. His abdominal strain appeared to be minor, so he shouldn't be at too much of a risk of aggravating the ailment. He was batting just .242/.274/.334 before landing on the DL.

Tue Jul 19 201122:01Giants place Miguel Tejada on disabled list
Giants placed INF Miguel Tejada on the 15-day disabled list with a lower abdominal strain.
The Giants originally referred to Tejada as day-to-day, but a subsequent MRI must have revealed something worse than they were expecting. Though the strain might not be too severe, ab strains can often sideline players for an extended amount of time, so it might not be a short stay on the DL for a veteran. The newly acquired Jeff Keppinger, as well as Brandon Crawford will see time at short now.

Tue Jul 19 201108:51Tejada's ab strain not serious, 'day-to-day'
Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Monday night that Miguel Tejada (abdomen) is "day-to-day."
Tejada was diagnosed Monday evening with an abdominal strain, an injury that can cost baseball players months to recover from. But the veteran's particular strain is not serious, and it sounds as though he will avoid the 15-day disabled list. Brandon Crawford will handle shortstop duties for at least the next handful of games.

Tejada left Monday's game against the Dodgers in the top of the third inning with the injury. We'll likely learn more about his status following the game, but Brandon Crawford figures to see most of the playing time at shortstop for now.

Miguel Tejada went 2-for-5 and hit his 12th career grand slam Saturday as the Giants steamrolled the Tigers 15-2.
Tejada has two homers in four games after hitting just one in his first 66. His slam came off Brayan Villarreal in the third inning, making it a 10-0 game. He had been stuck on 11 grand slams since 2008. Alex Rodriguez, Carlos Lee and Jason Giambi are the only active major leaguers with more slams than Tejada.

Thu Jun 23 201118:22Miguel Tejada goes 2-for-3 in victory
Miguel Tejada went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI against the Twins on Thursday.
Tejada has lost some playing time since Pablo Sandoval returned, and it remains a possibility that he'll be released when Mike Fontenot is activated. He's playing better now than he has at any point this season, but even so, he still has just two RBI two go along with his .259 average in 54 at-bats this month.

Fri Jun 10 201102:48Miguel Tejada doubles twice
Miguel Tejada doubled twice for the Giants' only extra-base hits in Thursday's loss to the Reds.
Tejada has hit in six straight, raising his average to .223. He desperately needs a real hot streak if he expects to remain a Giant for much longer.

Wed Jun 8 201110:54Tejada running out of time with Giants?
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News writes that the Giants could soon be willing to cut bait with the struggling Miguel Tejada.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy started Conor Gillespie at third base on Tuesday night against the Nationals, which is just the latest indication of how far he has fallen. Tejada, who signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Giants over the winter, is batting just .217 over his first 225 plate appearances while his .515 OPS is third-lowest among qualified position players. Brandon Crawford has done a respectable job at shortstop since being called up from Triple-A Fresno, so the Giants could make a decision when Pablo Sandoval returns from the disabled list.

Fri May 20 201102:45Miguel Tejada collects two more hits
Miguel Tejada had a third straight two-hit game for the Giants in Thursday's victory.
Expectations were that Tejada would be phased out of the lineup after Mark DeRosa returned, but with DeRosa back on the DL, he's getting one more chance to prove himself. He has nine hits in the Giants' last five games, raising his average from .195 to .221.
