Fri Jul 3 201523:52Feliz designated for assignment by Rangers on Friday
Feliz was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Feliz was activated from the disabled list Thursday after more than than a month due to an abscess under his right arm, but a roster move needed to be made for the upcoming activation of Matt Harrison (back) from the 60-day DL. In 17.2 innings this season, Feliz's six saves were accompanied by a lacking 5.09 ERA, 1.755 WHIP, and 15:9 K:BB

Feliz (arm) was reinstated from the DL on Thursday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Feliz made a handful of rehab appearances at Triple-A Round Rock, and he's now fully past the abscess under his right arm. He'll likely slot in as a late-inning reliever, as Shawn Tolleson continues in the closer's role.

Feliz (arm) allowed two hits but did not give up a run in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
In five appearances with Round Rock, Feliz has allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings. He has yet to pitch on back-to-back days, however, and while he could ultimately take on a late-inning gig upon activation, a return to the closer role does not appear to be in the cards with manager Jeff Banister formally naming Shawn Tolleson his endgamer.

Feliz (arm) tossed a scoreless inning during his first rehab appearance at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. He surrendered a hit and a walk and struck out a batter in the 24-pitch outing.
Feliz's control was a little shaky (13 of the 24 pitches went for strikes), but the Rangers seem to have been satisfied with his first outing since landing on the DL due to an abscess under his right arm. The 27-year-old is expected to make multiple appearances for Round Rock before he's activated.
Sun Jun 7 201511:29Neftali Feliz: (Arm) Tallies Scoreless Inning in Rehab Appearance
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz recorded a scoreless inning during his first appearance at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday while rehabbing an arm injury.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz recorded a scoreless inning during his first appearance at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday while rehabbing an arm injury. Feliz, who has been on the disabled list since the end of May as a result of the injury, has taken steps to try to ensure his effectiveness going forward, as he has reportedly tweaked his delivery in order to attempt to gain velocity. Rangers manager Jeff Banister told MLB.com that the team will move Feliz along in his rehab slowly to ensure he returns healthy. "There is no need to fast-track him back," Banister said. "We have some guys throwing the ball well out of the bullpen. This allows Neftali to do the things he needs to do so when he gets back, he is close to being the dominating guy we have seen in the past."

Feliz (arm), who is set to begin a rehab assignment Saturday, will tweak his delivery a bit in an attempt to regain some lost velocity according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Feliz's rehab assignment could last a bit longer than normal as a result, depending on how effective he pitches in his first first appearances down in the minors.

Feliz (arm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Feliz is scheduled to throw one inning Saturday, and while it's uncertain how many rehab appearances he'll need, the right-hander appears on track to return sometime next week. Shawn Tolleson has converted all six of his save chances since taking over the closer role for Texas, so look for Feliz to assume a middle-relief role upon activation.
Mon Jun 1 201509:34Feliz (arm) scheduled to throw bullpen session Sunday
Feliz (arm) was scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Feliz may need a rehab stint before rejoining the bullpen, and figures to have a reduced role initially given the collective success of the unit in his absence.
Mon May 25 201513:59Neftali Feliz: (Arm) Placed On Disabled List
Feliz was placed on the disabled list Monday with an abscess under his right arm, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Feliz's DL stint is retroactive to May 20, meaning he could return as soon as June 5. The move opens up a spot for the return of Josh Hamilton on Monday in a corresponding move. Feliz lost his closer role prior to the DL stint, but he'll likely remain in contention for the role upon his return from the disabled list.

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of an abscess under his right arm, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of an abscess under his right arm, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Feliz's DL stint is retroactive to May 20, which means he could return as soon as June 5. The move opens up a spot on the 25-man roster for outfielder Josh Hamilton, who will be activated from the DL in a corresponding move after he recovered from a shoulder injury. Felix lost the closer role before the injury, but he could be in contention for the job after he returns if current closer Shawn Tolleson falters at all. It is unclear when the abscess was discovered, or if it will keep him sidelined beyond June 5. Feliz is 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 17.2 innings (17 appearances) this season.

Feliz wasn't used in a 3-1 win over Boston on Thursday.
Texas needed just one reliever to bridge the gap between starter Wandy Rodriguez and the ninth inning, where Shawn Tolleson closed out his second game in two nights. Feliz's earlier usage this week indicated he was going to be used in a mop-up role, and Thursday's game didn't change that outlook.

Feliz said Tuesday that he's not focusing on disappointment after manager Jeff Banister changed the structure of the Rangers' bullpen, the Dallas Morning News reports. "I'm going to work every day to be more consistent; that's my mentality," Feliz said. "I understand why they did this. Everybody has to be ready to pitch in different situations. I'm fine. I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win the game."
Banister said Saturday after Feliz blew his third save of the season that he would do away with defined roles in the bullpen, which was a polite way of saying Feliz was removed from the closer role. Shawn Tolleson pitched the ninth inning Sunday and then again Wednesday, working a clean frame to earn his first career save. It seems Feliz may be used primarily in mop-up duty until he rights the ship.

Feliz briefly warmed up in Sunday's game against the Indians before sitting down in favor of Shawn Tolleson. Rangers manager Jeff Bannister said that there would be "no specific roles" in the bullpen for now, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Tolleson ended up pitching the ninth in a game that ended up not having a save situation, thanks to the Rangers adding on a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Feliz had sat down before that run had been scored. He hasn't lost his job as the closer, but at best his role security is unstable.

Manager Jeff Banister offered only a mild endorsement of Feliz as the Rangers' closer after he blew his third save of the season Saturday against the Indians, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. "We continue to evaluate everything," Banister said. "We can't stay status quo in doing some things when there has been a little bit of a pattern there. We haven't had consistent success. I'll look at where we are and who we have to face."
In addition to intimating that Feliz's job could be under some pressure, the Rangers made significant chances to their bullpen Sunday morning, designating Kyuji Fujikawa for assignment and adding Tanner Scheppers and Ross Ohlendorf from Triple-A Round Rock. The bullpen roles for Feliz and others should be fully fleshed out in the games to come, but those prospecting for a potential change at closer may want to make a speculative add on Shawn Tolleson, who has a 3.86 ERA and 22:3 K:BB ratio over 16.1 innings.

Feliz blew his third save of the season, allowing three runs in the ninth in the 10-8 loss to the Indians.
Feliz is in a rough stretch right now and has raised his ERA to 5.51 and his WHIP to an unsightly 1.71. With a career WHIP of 1.04, he'll likely turn things around, but if he doesn't he could lose his role as the closer.

Feliz pitched a perfect ninth Wednesday against the Royals for his sixth save of the season.
Feliz only needed five pitches to close Wednesday's game, and he has now converted in four straight save opportunities after blowing two saves in a row.

Feliz gave up one run on two hits and a walk over one inning Tuesday against the Royals in a non-save situation.
He came into a tie game in the ninth inning and gave up the lead, but the Rangers then evened the score in the bottom of the ninth only to lose in extra innings. Prior to Tuesday's outing Feliz had notched saves in each of his last three appearances, so he should still be the Rangers' closer going forward.

Feliz struck out two in a perfect ninth to pick up his fourth save in Thursday's win over the Rays.
Feliz is off to a rocky start, with a 4.38 ERA and two blown saves in six chances, but he was perfect Thursday as he was in his previous outing Monday. The 27-year-old hasn't given up a run in his last three outings, and his role as the Rangers' closer is secure.

Feliz needed just 11 pitches to retire three Houston batters in picking up the save Monday.
Feliz fanned two in the process, and it was a nice bounce-back effort after Feliz blew the save Friday night against the A's.

Feliz blew a save, allowing one run on two hits while retiring just one batter as the A's came from behind to defeat Texas 7-5 on Friday night.
Feliz has been shaky this season with two blown saves and a 5.79 ERA, but this was not your typical save opportunity. Leading 5-0 heading into the top of the eighth, two Rangers relievers allowed Oakland back in the game and Feliz allowed in an inherited runner and the last of seven runs in the inning.
