Yankees designated RHP David Aardsma for assignment.
Aardsma posted a 3.52 ERA and 7/2 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings this spring, but it wasn't enough to win a spot in the Yankees' bullpen. The 31-year-old is nearly two years removed from Tommy John surgery and hasn't had any issues with his elbow this spring, so we suspect he'll draw plenty of interest on waivers.

Aardsma has made just two Grapefruit League appearances due to a groin strain, but it sounds like he's close to returning to game action. He'll obviously have plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day as long as he can avoid a setback.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, free agent David Aardsma will "wait until he's further along in (his) arm rehab" to begin seeking contract offers.
Aardsma underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last July and just recently began a throwing program. Any team that signs him will have to practice patience, because the 30-year-old righty won't be ready to contribute until the middle of the 2012 campaign. He saved 69 games for Seattle from 2009-2010.
