Schumaker underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
A timetable for Schumaker's recovery was not immediately provided by the team, but the hope is likely that he can get back to full health by spring training. Schumaker's first season in Cincinnati was largely a disappointment, as he hit just .235/.287/.308 with two homers and 22 RBI in 83 games, and the 34-year-old will be little more than a utility player again next season.

Schumaker went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Mets.
Schumaker's playing time should start to taper off in September with interleague play over for the Reds and the team clearly out of the hunt. He's hitting .236/.288/.309 for the team. He's signed through the 2015 season.

Skip Schumaker has passed his concussion tests, but has to wait on the league and players association to sign off on the results before he can be activated by the Reds.
It sounds as though Schumaker will return to the Reds this weekend, though it doesn't look like it will get done in time for Saturday's afternoon game. Before hitting the DL, he was slashing .240/.287/.315 with a homer and 14 RBI in 47 games.

Fri Jul 18 201416:11Skip Schumaker not cleared to return
Skip Schumaker (concussion) has not yet been cleared to return to action.
The hope was that Schumaker would be activated for the beginning of the second half, but he's apparently still feeling concussion symptoms and is also dealing with a shoulder issue. Schumaker missed the first month of the season with a dislocated left shoulder, but it's unclear whether his current injury is related to that.

Sun Jul 13 201410:30Skip Schumaker expected back after break
Skip Schumaker (concussion) is expected to be activated immediately after the All-Star break.
He probably only needed a day or two after banging into the wall while trying to make a catch Thursday, but with the All-Star break coming up it made sense to go ahead and DL him. Schumaker will receive plenty of playing time at second base while Brandon Phillips (thumb) is out. "I needed at least a day," Schumaker said. "With the All-Star break coming up, seven days is actually three, which is kind of nice. With a limited bench, it wasn't real fair for me to take a day when we only have two guys (on the bench). We didn't need (pitcher) Manny Parra coming up in a big spot to hit."

The three hits were a season-high. Reds manager Bryan Price continues to give Schumaker occasional starts in left field, but the 34-year-old hasn't done much with the opportunity. Even with his big game on Friday, he's batting just .256/.287/.333 on the year.

Thu Jun 12 201416:07Skip Schumaker scores twice in victory
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored from the leadoff spot Thursday against the Dodgers.
Bryan Price's Schumaker infatuation finally paid off today. The veteran entered the game in an 0-for-13 slump, leaving him at .209/.253/.279 in 86 at-bats since coming off the DL on May 3. In spite of his struggles, Schumaker has 25 at-bats this month, compared to 20 for Ryan Ludwick, 11 for Chris Heisey and six for Roger Bernadina. All four are fighting for time in left field, while some are also getting some at-bats elsewhere.
