Tue Nov 30 201012:33Lopez to turn down arbitation from Red Sox
Felipe Lopez will decline arbitration from the Red Sox.
Nicely played. Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein picked up Lopez for the final week of the season and now they will receive a sandwich pick if he signs elsewhere. Lopez, who turns 31 next May, batted .233/.311/.345 with eight homers, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases between the Cardinals and Red Sox this past season.

Tue Nov 23 201017:00Red Sox offer arbitration to Felipe Lopez
The Red Sox have offered arbitration to Felipe Lopez.
The Red Sox declined Lopez's contract option for 2011, but Lopez qualifies as a Type B free agent and Boston will now receive a compensatory draft pick if he signs elsewhere. Lopez, who turns 31 next May, batted .233/.311/.345 with eight homers, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases this past season.

Thu Nov 4 201013:30Red Sox decline option on Felipe Lopez
Red Sox declined INF Felipe Lopez's option for 2011.
The details of the option are unspecified. Lopez, who turns 31 next May, batted .233/.311/.345 with eight homers, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases this season. Because Lopez qualifies as a Type B free agent this winter, the Red Sox would get a compensatory draft pick if they offer arbitration and he signs elsewhere.

Wed Nov 3 201010:06Red Sox to address option on Lopez's deal
According to Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, Felipe Lopez has an unspecified option in his contract which must be resolved this week.
Lopez signed a deal with the Red Sox for the final week of the season. He qualifies as a Type B free agent this offseason, but the Red Sox will presumably need to turn down the option, offer arbitration and have the infielder sign elsewhere in order to net a compensatory draft pick.

Sun Oct 3 201002:29Red Sox's Lopez homers in victory
Felipe Lopez went 3-for-5 and hit his first homer in a Boston uniform as the Red Sox beat the Yankees 7-6 in 10 innings in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Eric Patterson singled in Bill Hall to win it in the 10th and put the Yankees back into a tie with the Rays atop the AL East. Lopez had been 0-for-6 since joining the Red Sox on Sept. 25.
Sat Sep 25 201013:03Lopez officially brought in by Red Sox
Red Sox signed INF Felipe Lopez.
The signing was first reported by Scott Miller of CBSSports.com Friday, but it's become official, as Lopez is in uniform for the Red Sox Saturday. Since they're out of contention, it seems pretty clear the Red Sox are planning to offer Lopez arbitration in hopes of collecting a draft pick. It seems unlikely that he'll get a better deal than he'd get in arbitration, but we'll see.

Fri Sep 24 201013:41Report: Padres place claim on Felipe Lopez
According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, the Padres have placed a waiver claim on recently-released infielder Felipe Lopez.
The Cards cut ties with "Flip" earlier this week because of issues with late arrivals to games and, maybe more importantly, a .231/.310/.340 batting line. Perhaps Lopez would be motivated upon entering a pennant race, but the utilityman won't hold any fantasy value no matter where he goes.

Thu Sep 23 201008:51Lopez became detriment to the Cardinals
Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo said Thursday that Felipe Lopez "wasted" his opportunity with the club this season.
Lopez, who played for Oquendo on Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, showed up late to games several times this season and became a poor role model for some of the younger Cardinals player. "He had all the opportunities ... for his future," Oquendo said. "He wasted it. We talked during the season. We did everything we could to keep him in the game. But he went his own way." Lopez's free agent value is tanking by the minute.

Tue Sep 21 201017:11Cardinals release INF Felipe Lopez
Cardinals released INF Felipe Lopez.
This season has been dysfunctional in St. Louis, but this isn't the first time that Lopez has worn out his welcome. The 30-year-old infielder batted .231/.310/.340 with seven home runs, 36 RBI and eight stolen bases with the Cards this season. There's no question that he was a dud coming off one of his best season, but at least it came with only a modest financial commitment on behalf of the Cardinals.
Tue Sep 21 201016:32Felipe Lopez sent home for rest of season
According to Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have sent Felipe Lopez home for the rest of the season.
Odd, but keep in mind that Lopez doesn't have the best reputation around the league. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa refused to give a full explanation of the situation other than to say the team would be playing more of its younger players for the rest of the season. Lopez, who was signed to an incentive-laden one-year, $1 million contract in February, batted .231/.310/.340 with seven home runs, 36 RBI and eight stolen bases this season.

Mon Jul 26 201000:56Lopez's homer propels Cardinals to win
Felipe Lopez homered in the top of the 11th to lead the Cardinals to a 4-3 win over the Cubs on Sunday night.
Lopez didn't start Saturday, reportedly being benched because he arrived late to the ballpark. This will help put him back in the Cardinals' good graces, as the team was facing what would have been a damaging three-game sweep in Chicago. He made a winner out of Ryan Franklin, who pitched scoreless ninth and 10th innings for the Cardinals. Dennys Reyes got a rare save after retiring the only batter he faced in the bottom of the 11th.
Sun Jun 20 201013:53Lopez starts at third in place of Freese
Felipe Lopez is the Cardinals' starting third baseman in place of David Freese.
Lopez last played on Wednesday, so it was about time he got back into the lineup. He's hitting just .248/.338/.391 on the year, so it should come as little surprise that he hasn't seem much time lately.

Wed Jun 2 201022:16Lopez (thumb) will return to lineup Friday
Felipe Lopez (thumb) was out of the lineup on Wednesday but said he felt good enough to play.
Lopez left Tuesday's game against the Reds with a bruised right thumb after a ball took a wicked hop. X-rays were negative. "It's good," Lopez said. "I'm able to play today. It hurt but it should be alright." He will return to the lineup on Friday.

Sun May 23 201018:38Cardinals' Lopez hits game-winner in 10th
Felipe Lopez hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to propel the Cardinals to a 6-5 win over the Angels on Sunday.
Lopez didn't start in the game, but with Brendan Ryan continuing to struggle at the plate he was eventually called upon as a pinch-hitter. Lopez stayed in the game and was 0-for-1 with a walk entering the 10th. Scot Shields suddenly lost command of his pitches to start the 10th, walking a pair and hitting one batter to load the bases with one out. Reliever Trevor Bell replaced him, but Lopez smacked a ball well past a drawn-in outfield for the win. Lopez will likely continue to get a handful of starts per week with Ryan struggling, so he's worth starting in deep mixed leagues at the moment.
Fri May 21 201023:25Lopez homers as Cards hammer Pineiro
Felipe Lopez was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in a 9-5 win over the Angels on Friday night.
He was one of four Cardinals to notch a multi-hit game. Lopez hit an RBI triple in the second inning and a solo blast in the third. He's 4-for-14 (.286) with two homers and four RBI since returning from the disabled list on Monday. With Brendan Ryan struggling, Lopez is now worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
