Thames, who turns 34 in March, batted .288/.350/.491 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI over 212 at-bats with the Yankees this past season. We have heard reports that he could be Japan-bound, but he should be able to land a semi-regular role again in the major leagues.

Marcus Thames is working on a deal with Japan's Softbank Hawks.
Thames posted a solid .288/.350/.491 batting line, 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 212 at-bats with the Yankees this year, but he'll be lucky to find a job as a regular in the bigs for 2011 and the money might even be better in Japan. Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker passed along the report.

Mon Oct 18 201016:02Thames to DH Monday in Game 3 vs. Rangers
Marcus Thames is the designated hitter for Game 3 of the ALCS against the Rangers on Monday night.
It's the same lineup the Yankees used in Game 1 against C.J. Wilson. For what it's worth, Thames is 7-for-36 (.194) with three home runs and 15 strikeouts against Cliff Lee during his career.

Sat Sep 4 201017:06Thames pushes Yanks past Blue Jays
Marcus Thames hit a go-ahead two-run homer in a win over the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.
His two-run bomb off Jason Frasor in the bottom of the seventh gave the Yankees the decisive two-run lead. Thames has the reputation as a lefty-killer, but seven of his 11 home runs this season have come off right-handed pitchers. He's in something of a timeshare at the designated hitter spot, but that could change if Lance Berkman continues to struggle. He has enough power to warrant ownership in deeper mixed formats.
Thu Aug 12 201000:21Thames hits game-winning RBI in win over NY
Marcus Thames hit a game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday as the Yankees topped the Rangers 7-6.
A wild one on a hot evening in Texas. Rangers starter Cliff Lee pitched very well, but the Yankees kept at it and eventually squeaked out enough runs against the Texas bullpen. Thames played a major role, hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning and playing the hero in the ninth. The Yanks and Rangers -- probably the best two teams in the AL -- split their two-game series.
Sun Jul 4 201017:36Thames hits walk-off single in 10th
Marcus Thames hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 7-6 on Sunday.
Robinson Cano walked to start the inning, then moved to second on a bunt by Francisco Cervelli. Brett Gardner drew a two-out walk to extend the inning, and Thames then delivered the pinch-hit RBI single off reliever David Purcey. Thames remains a threat against left-handed pitching, but he likely won't see enough time to matter in fantasy circles.
Sun Jul 4 201011:28Thames activated from disabled list
Yankees activated OF Marcus Thames from 15-day disabled list.
Thames, who was recovering from a hamstring injury, will get the occasional start in left field and DH against left-handers. Chad Huffman was optioned to Triple-A to clear space on the roster.
Sat Jul 3 201011:54Thames could join Yanks Sunday
Marcus Thames is slated to play nine innings in the field today for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Sat Jun 19 201008:07Thames (hamstring) begins hitting off tee
Marcus Thames has started hitting off a tee as he works his way back from his strained hamstring.
Thames is a little ahead of schedule as the Yankees had originally planned to shut him down completely for nearly two weeks, and it's been just one since he was placed on the disabled list. Thames might not be the answer to the Yankees' current woes, but his presence might allow another regular to take a day off. He's eligible to return from the DL next weekend, though the Yankees have not yet said if they expect him to miss more than the minimum 15 days.

Sun Jun 13 201013:07Yankees' Thames to rest for 10-12 days
Marcus Thames, who was placed on the disabled list Sunday morning, will be shut down for 10-12 days in order to rest his strained hamstring.
With Brett Gardner returning from thumb injury and the arrival of Chad Huffman from Triple-A, the Yankees can afford to make sure Thames is healthy before they try to bring him back. Thames has been a decent bench bat, hitting .276/.394/.408 in 94 PAs.

Thames should be back in a little over two weeks. He will leave behind a decent enough .276/.394/.408 batting line, two home runs and 10 RBI.
Sat Jun 12 201017:27MRI on Thames' hammy comes back negative
An MRI Saturday on Marcus Thames' hamstring came back negative.
The Yanks are calling the injury a "strain," though it seems to be on the mild side. He should avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

Wed May 19 201021:27Thames lifted Wednesday with leg injury
Marcus Thames was lifted from Wednesday's game with a leg injury.
Thames appeared to slip on his own bat while running down the first base line. He tried to jog it off, but was eventually accompanied to the Yankees' dugout by a trainer. The Yanks are already low on outfielders, so Ramiro Pena was asked to step in and pinch-run.

Wed May 12 201022:24Thames gets nod in left, goes 0-for-3
Marcus Thames went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers.
Thames is picking up some extra at-bats with Nick Johnson and Curtis Granderson both sidelined. He could be of use in deeper AL-only formats thanks to his powerful bat, but expectations should be kept low. Thames is a career .246 hitter.
