Wed May 11 201119:11Blake Hawksworth has mild groin strain
Blake Hawksworth had an MRI Wednesday that revealed a mildly strained right groin and a hip impingement.
He's considered day-to-day for now, and the Dodgers are hoping he can avoid the DL. "If it turns into more than a couple days, we're talking about something different," manager Don Mattingly said. "You don't want to be caught short with a bullpen guy. We're hoping like three days. If it gets toward a week, it depends on how the game goes." Hawksworth has pitched well this year, posting a 3.12 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 17 1/3 innings.

Tue Nov 30 201016:02Dodgers pick up Hawksworth for Theriot
Dodgers acquired RHP Blake Hawksworth from the Cardinals for INF Ryan Theriot.
The Dodgers were going to non-tender Theriot on Thursday, anyway, so they did well to get something in return. Hawksworth, who turns 28 in March, posted a 4.98 ERA and 61/35 K/BB ratio over 45 games (eight starts) with the Cardinals this past season. The Dodgers are pretty well set for their rotation, so he'll contribute out of the bullpen with his new club.
Sun Sep 26 201013:39Hawksworth released from hospital
Blake Hawksworth (face) has been discharged from the hospital after getting 30 stitches in his mouth and upper lip.
Hawksworth was hit in the face by a line drive Saturday. He has avoided a major injury and is in uniform Sunday, but it's unlikely he'll appear in another game this season. Still, he was very lucky, all things considered.

Sat Sep 25 201016:54Blake Hawksworth to spend night in hospital
Blake Hawksworth, nailed in the head with a comebacker Saturday, will spend the night in the hospital for observation.
Hawksworth suffered lacerations on his mouth and upper lip but it sounds like he avoided a concussion. Still, with just a handful of games remaining in the regular season, our guess is he's shut down. The sometimes-starter, sometimes-reliever has a 4.98 ERA and 1.64 WHIP on the year.

Sat Sep 25 201016:01Hawksworth taken to hospital
Updating a previous item, Blake Hawksworth was taken to a Chicago hospital after being hit in the face by a comebacker.
Hawksworth suffered "serious lacerations to his mouth and upper lip." He'll get some X-rays at the hospital. Given that he was able to walk off on his own, he seems to have avoided a serious injury, but we'll see. The Cardinals might play it safe and shut him down either way.

Sat Sep 25 201014:44Hawksworth exits after getting hit in face
Blake Hawksworth left Saturday's game in the fifth inning after getting hit in the face by a Sam Fuld line drive.
The ball hit Hawksworth in the mouth and he immediately fell to the ground. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, though, with trainer Barry Weinberg holding a towel to his bloodied face. It appears that the righty has avoided a serious injury, but we'll update you when we know more on his condition.
Sat Jul 24 201016:34Hawksworth takes loss vs. Cubs
Blake Hawksworth was tagged for six runs -- five earned -- over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday afternoon.
It was his shortest outing since his first major league start on June 7. Hawksworth yielded seven hits -- including a pair of home runs -- while walking three and whiffing four. He has done a decent enough job since re-joining the rotation on June 26, posting a 4.83 ERA over six starts, however he has yet to complete seven innings in any of them. He'll likely move back to a long-relief role if the Cardinals are able to add a starter before the deadline.
Tue Jul 20 201000:38Cards' Hawksworth earns win over Phils
Blake Hawksworth yielded four runs over six innings Monday in a victory over the Phillies.
Hawksworth allowed 10 hits, walked three and struck out just one, but he managed to escape some jams after a three-run first. He's done very solid work in five starts since moving into the rotation late last month, and he's a worthy spot starter in NL-only leagues for as long as he keeps his spot.
Mon Jul 5 201017:05Hawsworth to start vs. Rockies on Tuesday
Blake Hawksworth will start against the Rockies on Tuesday night.
Monday's scheduled off-day will allow the Cardinals to skip Jeff Suppan and start Hawksworth on regular rest. The 27-year-old right-hander was torched in his first major league start against the Dodgers last month, but has since turned in consecutive respectable outings.

Sat Jun 26 201016:57Hawksworth impressive in win over Royals
Blake Hawksworth allowed two runs -- one earned -- over five-plus innings in a win over the Royals on Saturday afternoon.
All in all, pretty darn good for what was his second major league start. He gave up just two hits and held the Royals off the board all the way until the sixth inning. Trevor Miller allowed both runs to scored after Hawksworth left the game. It will probably be enough to earn him another start against the Brewers next week. Still, we'd like to see more before we recommend him in NL-only leagues.
Fri Jun 25 201011:02Hawksworth could start vs. Royals on Saturday
Blake Hawksworth could make his second major league start Saturday against the Royals.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Thursday that Hawksworth would be "a logical candidate" for the assignment, but he could have to turn elsewhere if he is needed in relief of Jeff Suppan on Friday night. Hawksworth gave up six runs on seven hits over four innings in his first major league start on June 7 against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 5.63 ERA over 32 innings this season. He's not a strong fantasy bet.

Tue Jun 8 201001:16Cards' Hawksworth gives up six runs
Making his first major league start, Blake Hawksworth gave up six runs in four innings Monday versus the Dodgers.
P.J. Walters, the man Hawksworth replaced in the rotation, took over to start the fifth and matched Hawksworth's line precisely, allowing six runs and seven hits in four innings. Maybe Hawksworth will get another start this weekend, but he's just filling in until Brad Penny comes back.
Mon Jun 7 201018:26Hawsworth gets the nod vs. Dodgers
Blake Hawksworth will start against the Dodgers on Monday night.
He gets the nod over P.J. Walters. Hawksworth, 27, has a 5.14 ERA over 18 relief appearances this season. This will be his first career major league start.

Fri May 21 201020:34Hawksworth to rest this weekend
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said he doesn't plan to use Blake Hawksworth (groin) this weekend.
Besides giving up four runs in two innings on Wednesday, Hawksworth also tweaked an injury to his right groin. The right-hander has a 4.15 ERA over his first 14 appearances this season.
