Rockies signed LHP J.C. Romero to a minor league contract.
Romero had his contract purchased from Triple-A Colorado Springs and will be available for Monday's game against the Marlins. The 35-year-old left-hander was released by the Phillies in June after posting a 3.86 ERA and 10/12 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings. While he has struggled with his command this season, he has held left-handed batters to a .208/321/.208 batting line.

Mon Aug 8 201116:56Yankees release LHP J.C. Romero
Yankees released LHP J.C. Romero.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the veteran left-hander was released at his request. Romero signed a minor league deal with the Yanks last month and posted a 2.92 ERA and 10/5 K/BB ratio over 12 2/3 innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He should draw interest from contenders.

Thu Jul 14 201111:58Yanks ink LHP Romero to minors deal
Yankees signed LHP J.C. Romero to a minor league contract.
That didn't take long. The 35-year-old southpaw was just released by the Nationals this morning, but could pitch for Triple-A Scranton as soon as Thursday night. The Yankees could obviously use another left-hander in their bullpen, so Romero is an ideal fit.

Wed Jul 13 201121:17J.C. Romero could wind up with Yankees
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that if J.C. Romero isn't called up by the Nationals by July 15, he'll opt out of his deal and sign a minor league contract with the Yankees.
Romero has pitched well at Triple-A Syracuse since signing in late June, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five over seven innings. The Nats seem likely to grant him his wish and promote him, but it appears the Yanks, who are in desperate need of left-handed relief help, will be there to scoop him up if he's available.

Romero has pitched well during his brief time with the Chiefs, allowing one run on two hits over five innings while striking out four and walking just one. Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post speculates that the veteran left-hander could join the Nationals after the All-Star break.

Wed Jul 6 201110:40Romero continues to pitch in minors
J.C. Romero has allowed one run over three innings with Triple-A Syracuse.
Romero inked a minor league contract with the Nationals last month after he was given his release by the Phillies. The Nationals want to see how he fares pitching on back-to-back days before considering adding him to the major league roster. The 35-year-old southpaw has an underwhelming 10/12 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings in the majors this season, but he could function as a second lefty out of the pen with Washington.

Wed Jun 29 201114:42Nationals sign J.C. Romero to minors deal
Nationals signed LHP J.C. Romero to a minor league contract.
Romero was released by the Phillies last Friday after being designated for assignment earlier this month. The 35-year-old has a 3.86 ERA and 10/12 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings this season, but can still be a weapon against left-handed batters. He'll report to Triple-A Syracuse for now, but look for him to join the Nats at some point this summer.

Fri Jun 24 201115:33Phils release J.C. Romero
Phillies released LHP J.C. Romero.
Philadelphia designated Romero for assignment last week, and was unable to find a trade partner for him. A lefty specialist, Romero was holding lefties to a .208 average this season, but posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 10/12 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings of work. Thanks to the hand he throws the ball with, however, he should be able to find a new home in relatively short order.

Tue Jun 21 201114:49Cards don't have interest in J.C. Romero
Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told Jim Bowden of SiriusXM that his club is not pursuing J.C. Romero.
The Cards have been linked to Romero since he was designated for assignment by the Phillies at the end of last week. But Mozeliak told Bowden on Tuesday afternoon that he feels the 35-year-old left-hander would not represent an upgrade. Romero could pass through waivers and wind up back in the Phillies organization.

Fri Jun 17 201108:15Report: Twins also interested in J.C. Romero
Jim Bowden of SiriusXM reports that the Twins and Cardinals have interest in the recently designated for assignment J.C. Romero.
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the Cards' possible interest Thursday, but this is the first we've heard of the Twins. Romero, of course, is a former Twin, but even though they've had problems on the left side of their bullpen, it's surprising that they'd be looking to make any deals when they're 9.0 games out and in last place in the AL Central.

Fri Apr 29 201119:09Romero likely to need rehab stint
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro believes J.C Romero (calf) will need a minor-league rehab stint before coming off the disabled list.
"He's doing well, but he'll probably have to do something as far as a rehab is concerned," Amaro said. "Not much. He's coming along really well, so hopefully he'll be back closer to the (15-day) time frame." This is in contrast to statements Amaro made a few days ago, where he said he did not anticipate Romero needing a rehab stint. Either way, it doesn't sound like his absence will stretch too deep into May.

Sun Apr 24 201110:20Amaro still thinks Romero will miss 2 weeks
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro still anticipates J.C. Romero (calf) only needing the minimum stay on the disabled list.
Romero is staying in Philadelphia to rehab and evidently progressing as expected. He posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP before his injury.

J.C. Romero (calf) will likely be placed on the disabled list.
Romero will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, but it's likely that he'll have to miss some time. The Phillies could opt to call up either left-hander Mike Zagurski or right-hander Mike Stutes from the minor leagues to replace him.

Mon Apr 18 201122:05Romero exits with apparent leg injury
J.C. Romero left Monday's game against the Brewers in the ninth inning with an apparent leg injury.
Romero appeared to pull up lame moving to his right on a hit by Carlos Gomez. He was limping, but able to walk off under his own power. David Herndon followed him in relief and finished the top-half of the ninth inning. We'll pass along an update on Romero's status as soon as it is made available by the team.

Thu Jan 6 201115:49Phillies re-sign J.C. Romero to 1-year deal
Phillies re-sign LHP J.C. Romero to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
Romero, 34, pitched to a 3.68 ERA last season, despite an underwhelming 28/29 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings. He had a 20/11 K/BB ratio against left-handed batters, so hopefully Charlie Manuel will use him more appropriately in 2011.
Mon Dec 27 201008:32Phillies agree to terms with lefty Romero
The Phillies have agreed to terms on a contract with J.C. Romero.
The Phils explored different lefty specialist options and even had a contract in place with veteran Dennys Reyes, but they turned back to Romero in the end. He held left-handed batters to a .217/.323/.277 slash line in 2010 and should do just fine if used correctly. The Phillies declined his $4.5 million option for 2011 when this offseason began and will pay him far less.
