Sat Mar 7 201510:30Uggla 1-2 on Friday with walk
Uggla went 1-for-2 on Friday with a walk, hitting the ball hard in all three of his plate appearances, the Washington Post reports.
The second baseman is trying to get his career back on track after vision problems produced a couple of truly awful seasons. If Uggla demonstrates that he's got something left in the tank, he could catch on with a team looking for some thump in its lineup, but his odds of breaking camp with the Nationals are fairly slim after they traded for Yunel Escobar in the offseason.
Sat Jan 10 201512:04Uggla diagnosed with oculomotor dysfunction in offseason
Uggla was diagnosed with oculomotor dysfunction in the offseason, stemming from incidents in June 2012 and March 2013 in which he got hit in the head by pitches, the Boston Globe reports.
His vision was dropping from 20/15 to 20/100 whenever he moved his head or body, making it difficult for him to pick up the rotation of a pitch and causing him problems on defense. Uggla has now been declared free of the condition, which if true could make him an interesting dark horse candidate for the Nationals' second base job.

Uggla agreed to terms with the Nationals on a minor league deal, which includes an invitation to spring training.
The veteran played 48 games for the Braves last season, hitting a disappointing .162 with 10 RBI and 40 strikeouts before being released in mid-July. He was picked up by the Giants shortly after but the struggles continued, as Uggla went 0-for-11 at the plate with six strikeouts in just 11 at-bats. The 34-year-old will head to spring training with the Nationals in hopes of winning a roster spot and rejuvenating his career.

Uggla declined his assignment to Triple-A and has elected to become a free agent, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Uggla didn't perform well in his brief time with the Giants, going 0-for-11 at the plate with six strikeouts and committing three errors over the four games with the club. The veteran second baseman will now search for a new home.
Fri Aug 1 201414:37The Giants designated Uggla for assignment Friday
The Giants designated Uggla for assignment Friday.
Reports of Uggla's release earlier in the week were a bit premature, but that's essentially what they Giants have done, as Uggla seems unlikely to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A. Uggla's four-game tenure with San Francisco was a disaster, as he not only made three errors in the field, but also went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts.
Thu Jul 31 201417:28GM Brian Sabean said that while Uggla has not been released
GM Brian Sabean said that while Uggla has not been released, the team has asked him to accept a demotion to Triple-A Fresno, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Uggla is no longer with the big club and will likely take the next day or two to decide his next course of action. The veteran second baseman went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts in his four-game stint with the Giants, who couldn't justify giving him continued at-bats.
Wed Jul 30 201423:29Dan Uggla likely to be released by Giants
The Giants are likely to release second baseman Dan Uggla in the coming days.
A report surfaced Wednesday that the team had already cut ways with the struggling infielder, but Uggla remains a member of the Giants for now. He likely won't be for too much longer, though, as sources have indicated to the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman that Uggla will be cut loose soon. Uggla is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts and three errors through four games with the club.

Wed Jul 30 201423:23Updating previous report
Updating a previous report, Uggla has not yet been released by the Giants, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
The key word here is "yet," as Uggla's brief stint with the Giants fell nothing short of dreadful. The team may simply be waiting on a roster decision, or perhaps they have a deadline deal in the works. Until an official announcement arrives, Uggla will still be a Giant, although his time there will likely be short-lived.
Wed Jul 30 201421:57Dan Uggla: Released By Giants
The Giants released Uggla after Wednesday's 7-5 victory over the Pirates, MLB.com reports.
The club took a flier on Uggla after he was released by the Braves, but the experiment lasted all of four games. Outfielder Tyler Colvin was also released, presumably in anticipation of multiple player moves ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. Uggla went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts and made three errors in the field while with San Francisco.
Wed Jul 30 201421:51Giants release second baseman Dan Uggla
Giants released 2B Dan Uggla.
Well, that was quick. Uggla played in just four games for the Giants, going hitless in 11 at-bats and committing three errors in the field. The Giants are rumored to be in the market for a second baseman before the trade deadline. Uggla's release emphasizes that idea.

Wed Jul 30 201413:20Uggla out of lineup Wednesday
Uggla is out of the lineup Wednesday vs. the Pirates.
The change of scenery has yet to pay dividends for Uggla, who is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts in his four starts with the Giants. The team probably won't pull the plug on him at second base just yet, but Joe Panik will eat into his playing time until he gets going.
Sun Jul 27 201423:25Dan Uggla goes hitless in loss to Dodgers
Dan Uggla had a rough night in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, and also making a critical error that led to an unearned run.
Uggla also drew a walk in the ballgame. He's now hitting an unfathomable .152/.234/.217 on the season and is closer to being released than he is to being fantasy relevant once again.

Sun Jul 27 201400:46Dan Uggla goes hitless in loss
Dan Uggla went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and committed an error at second base Saturday against the Dodgers.
Uggla isn't making a great first impression with the Giants. However, it's not like anyone else on the team had any luck against Clayton Kershaw tonight. Uggla will probably be back in the lineup against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu on Saturday.

Sat Jul 26 201401:51Dan Uggla goes 0-for-2 in Giants debut
Dan Uggla went 0-for-2 before being removed in a double-switch in his Giants debut Friday.
Uggla wasn't responsible for any of Zack Greinke's 10 strikeouts, so at least he had something going for him. The Giants are facing lefties the next two days, but it won't get much easier for Uggla with Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu on the hill. He's 1-for-12 with six strikeouts lifetime against Kershaw.

Fri Jul 25 201418:55Dan Uggla joints Giants, in lineup on Friday
Giants purchased the contract of Dan Uggla from Triple-A Fresno.
Uggla, who was signed to a minor league contract on Monday, will now be given an opportunity to see regular work at second base for the Giants with Marco Scutaro and Ehire Adrianza on the shelf. He's batting seventh in his Giants debut on Friday, and could carve out value in NL-only formats if he can find his power stroke.

Mon Jul 21 201413:43Giants ink deal with Braves castoff Dan Uggla
Giants signed INF Dan Uggla to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Fresno.
Uggla was batting just .162/.241/.231 with 40 strikeouts in 145 plate appearances this season for the Braves and showed up late to the second-to-last game of the first half, resulting in a one-game suspension and then his release. The 34-year-old is a shell of his former self and will have to prove that he has something left at Fresno. The Braves are on the hook for the $19 million remaining on his contract. His minor league deal with the Giants comes with an August 1 opt-out.

Fri Jul 18 201414:57Veteran 2B Dan Uggla released by Braves
Braves released 2B Dan Uggla.
Uggla had been playing sparingly for the Braves this season and has hit just .175/.295/.332 batting line since the beginning of last year. He's still owed over $19 million through the end of next season, but Atlanta viewed it as a sunk cost at this point. Uggla will be scooped up cheaply by someone, but it's hard to imagine him rediscovering his stroke anytime soon.

Fri Jul 18 201414:42Braves expected to cut Dan Uggla loose
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Braves are expected to release Dan Uggla.
There were rumors last weekend that they might be cutting him loose, and now it appears they'll indeed make the move. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is hearing the same as Sherman, though he says it's unclear whether Uggla will be designated for assignment or given his outright release. It's a moot point, as no one is going to claim him on waivers. Uggla is rarely playing for Atlanta these days and has hit just .175/.295/.332 batting line since the beginning of last season. He's owed roughly $19 million through the end of next season.

Sun Jul 13 201411:36Uggla given one-game suspension.by Braves
Dan Uggla has been suspended by the Braves for one game.
There's no official word on what the suspension is for, but David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is hearing it's for tardiness. It was O'Brien that reported Uggla could be designated for assignment, but evidently the club isn't ready to make that move yet. Uggla has received just 20 at-bats since May 23 and has one hit over that time.

Sun Jul 13 201409:15Uggla likely to be designated for assignment
The Braves are expected to designate Dan Uggla for assignment prior to Sunday's game.
The club has yet to announce a corresponding move after calling up Phil Gosselin late Saturday, but the expectation is that Uggla will lose his roster spot. It's possible that he'll be traded, but either way the Braves figure to DFA him first. The move is long overdue, as Uggla is barely playing anymore, going just 1-for-20 with eight strikeouts since May 23. The Braves had been holding out only because the second baseman is due roughly $19 million through the end of next season. Someone will take a shot on Uggla, but with a .175/.295/.332 batting line since the beginning of last season, it's hard to bet on him turning it around.
