Fri Sep 3 201020:32Kendall had 'extensive repairs' of shoulder
Jason Kendall needed "extensive repairs" of his right shoulder during surgery Friday in Los Angeles.
"They had to repair three of the four muscles," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "Two of them were torn completely off the bone, the other one was torn to the point where they had to repair it. He got through it OK, the doctor felt good about it and it's month-to-month now, not day-to-day." Kendall could miss anywhere from 8-12 months as a result of surgery. There's a chance he'll contribute next season, but his absence will be a golden opportunity for both Brayan Pena and Lucas May.

Wed Sep 1 201017:49Kendall out 8-10 months w/ shoulder surgery
Jason Kendall will need shoulder surgery and is expected to be sidelined 8-10 months.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Kendall has an "extensive tear in his rotator cuff." The injury occurred in July but was never reported, so some kudos should be given to Kendall for playing through what was surely a painful injury. Yost hopes Kendall will be ready for the beginning of next season, but given that April is seven months away, that seems a bit unrealistic. Brayan Pena and Lucas May will handle the catching duties for the rest of this season.

Sun Aug 22 201017:31Kendall hits walk-off single in 10th
Jason Kendall hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Royals bested the White Sox 3-2.
This was a nice win for the Royals, and a rough loss for the White Sox. The 10th inning started innocently enough with two straight outs, but Gregor Blanco singled and then stole second and third base. Kendall then singled him in off reliever Scott Linebrink. The win improves the Royals to 53-71, giving them either the seventh or eighth worst record in the majors depending on how the Nationals close out the day. The club's long-term interests might prefer a worse record to get a higher pick in the draft, but the Royals have a stacked farm system and the 2011 draft is loaded so the club is well-positioned to be relevant at some point in the next few years.
Sun Jul 18 201010:33Kendall to get more time off
Jason Kendall is going to start seeing some more time off.
With the scorching heat, manager Ned Yost wants to give his catcher more rest. Kendall has started 85 games this season, while backup Brayan Pena has started only five. "We're going to have to a little bit more as long as this heat keeps up," Yost said. "We'll find more times to get him in there. It's not going to be every day game. It'll probably be a little more often than it's been." Kendall remains playable just in AL-only leagues, regardless of how much playing time he's getting.

Sat Jun 19 201022:08Royals' Kendall knocks in two runs
Jason Kendall knocked in two of the Royals' four runs Saturday in the loss to Atlanta.
Kendall has maybe played a little better than the Royals should have expected, with a respectable .265 average and 22 RBI in 237 at-bats. He needs to stop attempting steals, though. He was caught for the seventh time, versus only five successes, during tonight's game. Even if they're mostly busted hit-and-runs, that's not good.
Fri Jun 4 201023:19Kendall has three hits, three RBI in win
Jason Kendall was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a walk in a 7-3 win over the Tigers on Friday night.
Of course, all three hits were singles. The three RBI are the most Kendall has managed in a game since last September 29 as a member of the Brewers. The veteran backstop is batting .293/.358/.353 on the year, but doesn't have any homers and has only scored 13 times in 53 games. There are quite obviously far better options available.
Thu May 13 201013:17Kendall out of Thursday's lineup
Jason Kendall is not in the starting lineup against the Indians on Thursday.
Kendall has started 33 out of the club's 34 games to this point, so the afternoon game sounds like the perfect time to rest him. Brayan Pena will start behind the dish.

Kendall had started 12 straight games to begin the season, so he was due for a day off. Brayan Pena will start in his place.

Wed Apr 14 201017:00Royals' Kendall goes 4-for-5
Jason Kendall went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in the win over the Tigers on Wednesday.
Kendall has hit in nine straight to open the season, but he didn't have a run scored or an RBI until today. Even during his hot streaks, Kendall isn't much of a fantasy catcher these days.
