Sat Apr 21 201222:30Santiago drives home two to lead Tigers
Ramon Santiago's two-run single was the big hit of the night Saturday, leading the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Rangers.
Santiago got the call at second base in the nightcap of the doubleheader and didn't disappoint. The two-run single in the fourth inning off Neftali Feliz was his only hit in three trips to the plate, but it was a big base-knock and strong pitching allowed Detroit to hang on.

Tue Apr 10 201210:32Santiago scratched with flu-like symptoms
Ramon Santiago was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Rays due to flu-like symptoms.
There's a flu bug going around the Tigers' clubhouse right now, but Santiago should be back to normal within the next day or two. Danny Worth will make the start at second base and bat eighth Tuesday.

Sun Mar 11 201217:43Ramon Santiago goes 3-for-3
Ramon Santiago went 3-for-3 with a couple of runs scored Sunday against the Phillies.
Manager Jim Leyland appeared to pretty much hand Ryan Raburn the second-base job last month and now the Tigers have Brandon Inge working out there as well, but the reliable Santiago can't be forgotten about. He's a far better defender than Raburn, and the Tigers might decide they need that defense since they're going to be below average at every other infield spot.

Mon Dec 5 201121:21Santiago, Raburn to platoon at 2B
The Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers are prepared to go with a platoon of Ramon Santiago and Ryan Raburn at second base.
Santiago re-signed last month on a two-year, $4 million deal after batting .260/.311/.384 with five homers and 30 RBI over 258 at-bats in 2011. He's a much better defensive option than Raburn but offers very little at the plate. Raburn hit .256/.297/.432 with 14 homers and 49 RBI while starting 55 games at second base and 39 in the outfield this past season.

Wed Nov 30 201115:05Tigers re-sign INF Santiago to two-year deal
Tigers re-signed INF Ramon Santiago to a two-year contract.
Terms of the contract aren't yet known. It's somewhat of a surprise to see him return, as the Tigers view him as a strictly as a utility player and many expected that he would seek a starting job elsewhere. However, those offers apparently didn't come. The 32-year-old batted .260/.311/.384 with a .695 OPS this season and should continue to see playing time around the Tigers' infield.

Fri Nov 11 201115:41Pirates interested in Ramon Santiago
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Pirates are interested in free agent infielder Ramon Santiago.
Not only do the Pirates like Santiago, but they like him enough that they're evidently interested in him as an everyday shortstop. Santiago is a slick fielder but has a career .249/.316/.342 batting line and has never started more than 84 games in a season. The Pirates are looking for a new shortstop after declining Ronny Cedeno's option for 2012.

Wed Nov 2 201110:47Tigers interested in re-signing Santiago
Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Tuesday that he is interested in bringing Ramon Santiago back as a utility infielder.
"You look at a guy like Ramon Santiago, who we like and has done a really good job for us, and we would like to have him back," explained Dombrowski. "But it wouldn't surprise me if someone stepped up and offered him an everyday role and the type of dollars that he's looking to receive somewhere else. You can understand that -- that's what free agency is all about." Santiago, 32, batted .260/.311/.384 with a .695 OPS this season and is a skilled defender at second base and shortstop. He'll likely end up elsewhere if promised regular playing time.

Mon Oct 17 201112:47Ramon Santiago hoping to re-sign with Tigers
Ramon Santiago, an impending free agent, is hoping to re-sign with the Tigers this offseason.
"I really want to come back," Santiago said. "Who wouldn't want to come back to the Tigers? I love Detroit. I love the fans. I have a lot of friends and I want to come back." The 32-year-old infielder has also expressed a desire for regular playing time, however, and the Tigers might not be able to grant that. He should draw some interest on the open market.

Wed Mar 9 201113:25Phils could look at Ramon Santiago?
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com names Ramon Santiago as a possibility for the Phillies.
No word on if the Phillies are talking to the Tigers about Santiago specifically, but Knobler says they will look at utility-types rather than a full-time replacement for Utley at second base. In other words, it won't be Michael Young. Santiago, 31, is capable of playing both second base and shortstop. He batted .263/.337/.325 with three home runs and 22 RBI over 367 plate appearances with the Tigers last season.

Thu Jun 17 201016:10Tigers' Santiago goes 4-for-4
Ramon Santiago went 4-for-4 and scored three times Thursday against the Nationals.
Santiago still isn't playing regularly with Adam Everett gone, but he's getting about as many at-bats as the Tigers think he's fit to handle. He's batting .262 with a .346 OBP. Unfortunately, the pop he showed the previous two years has been absent, as he's collected just five extra-base hits in 141 at-bats.
Sat May 15 201023:54Santiago draws walkoff walk, Tigers win
Ramon Santiago drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning Saturday to lead the Tigers over the Red Sox 7-6.
Santiago entered as a late-innings pinch-hitter for struggling second baseman Scott Sizemore and drew two walks. Brandon Boesch also had a big night, falling a home run short of the cycle, while Magglio Ordonez added a dinger in the eighth inning. The Tigers are 21-16 on the young season.
