Mets signed 1B Chris Shelton to a minor league contract.

A former stathead favorite, Shelton has failed to do anything noteworthy in the majors since 2006. Now 30, he hit just .249/.320/.393 with 10 homers over 285 Triple-A at-bats last season while in the Astros organization. He's unlikely to appear with the big league club this season unless injuries strike.
