Hideki Matsui clubbed his second home run of the season, helping to lead the Rays to a 5-0 victory over Wei-Yin Chen and the Orioles on Friday. |
Matsui's two-run homer in the first inning put the Rays up 5-0, which would hold as the game's final score. He's always had tremendous power, and as long as he's healthy and receiving regular at-bats should be able to contribute to the Rays offense. Tue May 29 2012 | 14:53 | Hideki Matsui added to Rays' active roster |
Rays purchased the contract of DH Hideki Matsui from Triple-A Durham. |
As expected. Matsui wasn't all that impressive at the Triple-A level, batting just .170 (8-for-47) with two doubles and a 10/4 K/BB ratio in 13 games, but the Rays clearly think he's ready for major league pitching. He projects to get part-time at-bats out of the DH spot, but the Rays have the option of using Luke Scott in left field until Desmond Jennings returns from the disabled list. Matsui is worth a look in AL-only leagues, but our expectations are pretty low after he posted a lowly .696 OPS last season with the A's. |
