Thu Jul 11 201320:37Ryan Dempster struggles, but Red Sox win
Ryan Dempster was chased after allowing seven runs -- four earned -- over just 3 2/3 frames against the Mariners Thursday, but the Red Sox won in extra innings 8-7.
Dempster came into the day having allowed no more than three runs in each of his last eight starts, but he was off from the get-go in this one. The righty struck out four but served up nine hits, walked one and hit a batter. He finishes the first half with an underwhelming 4.24 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

Sun Jun 30 201317:03Ryan Dempster picks up sixth win
Ryan Dempster lasted just 5 1/3 innings but allowed only two runs in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.
He gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out a pair. Dempster looked to be well on his way to a seventh straight quality start, but he was pulled with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth. The move looked like a wise one after Craig Breslow got a popup and a strikeout to escape further damage. He missed out on his sixth win when the Jays tied things up in the ninth. Dempster will take a 4.11 ERA and 1.38 WHIP into Anaheim next weekend.

Wed Jun 26 201300:09Dempster holds Rockies down for fifth win
Ryan Dempster allowed two runs in six innings to earn the win against the Rockies on Tuesday.
It was more along the lines of what we expect to see from Dempster, as he allowed six hits and two walks while striking out four. The win was his first in three starts, and he moved to 5-8 with a 4.15 ERA on the year. A start against the Blue Jays on Sunday is next on the docket.

Wed Jun 19 201323:12Ryan Dempster falls to 4-8 with loss to Rays
Ryan Dempster allowed three runs over six innings to take the loss against the Rays on Wednesday.
The outing was similar to Dempster's other starts recently, as he's turned in quality starts in his last five outings. Despite the "quality" label, Wednesday's was mostly forgettable, as he allowed eight hits and two walks in his six innings of work. He'll take on the Rockies in his next time out on Tuesday.

Fri Jun 14 201322:04Dempster gives up two runs in loss to O's
Ryan Dempster allowed two runs in 7 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Orioles.
Things could have been much worse, as Dempster allowed five hits and walked five batters. Still, he managed to minimize the damage and keep the Red Sox in the ballgame. The veteran right-hander has bounced back after a recent rough stretch and should be a decent enough fourth or fifth starter in mixed leagues moving forward. He lines up to face the Tigers next week in Detroit.

Tue Jun 4 201322:28Dempster goes seven, earns win over Rangers
Ryan Dempster allowed three runs over seven innings to pick up the win over the Rangers on Tuesday.
Dempster wasn't perfect but he didn't have to be, as the Red sox put up 17 runs in support of the right-hander. All three of the runs Dempster allowed came via the home run, but he was otherwise solid. The win was his first in a month, and after a rough May the turning of the calendar may benefit the 36-year-old. He'll start again Sunday against the Angels.

Tue May 28 201321:49Dempster allows only two runs but Sox lose
Ryan Dempster allowed two earned runs in seven innings Tuesday in Boston's loss to the Phillies.
It was actually one of Dempster's better outings since the end of April but the Red Sox offense could muster only one run. Dempster yielded six hits and three walks while striking out four. The veteran right-hander will carry a 4.45 ERA and 1.39 WHIP into his next scheduled outing against the rival Yankees.

Ryan Dempster was pulled after giving up four runs in three innings Thursday against the Indians.
Dempster has been toughed up in three straight outings (15 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings) after opening the season with a 2.93 ERA in seven starts. He's not going to be worth using in mixed leagues until he turns it around.

Sat May 18 201323:32Dempster allows five runs but Sox beat Twins
Ryan Dempster allowed five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings but the Red Sox beat the Twins on Saturday.
Dempster was let off the hook by the Boston offense, which rattled off 12 runs in a rout of Minnesota. Dempster yielded eight hits and six walks, throwing only 68 of his 127 pitches for strikes. He now has a pedestrian 4.27 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings, though we wouldn't give up on him quite yet because the strikeout rate is tremendous. Dempster will face the Indians next.

Sun May 12 201316:58Ryan Dempster shelled in loss to Blue Jays
Ryan Dempster was shelled for six earned runs in five innings Sunday as the Red Sox fell to the Blue Jays.
Dempster was in trouble all afternoon, allowing two runs in the second inning, one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. It was his worst start of the season, statistically, and ballooned his ERA from 2.93 to 3.75. The veteran righty will try to bounce back next week against the Twins.

Tue May 7 201322:26Dempster strikes out eight in loss to Twins
Ryan Dempster struck out eight while allowing four runs -- two earned -- over seven-plus innings, but he took the loss to the Twins on Tuesday.
Dempster actually lowered his ERA to 2.93 in the loss, so it's not as though he got shelled in the outing. Unfortunately his offense didn't give him much support, so the right-hander was denied a win for his efforts. Dempster has been a surprise for fantasy owners this year, and he'll get another shot at picking up a victory Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Thu May 2 201322:52Ryan Dempster wins in first start in Toronto
Ryan Dempster yielded one run in six innings Thursday in Boston's 3-1 defeat of Toronto.
It was Dempster's first ever start in Toronto, though the native of British Columbia did pitch in Montreal several times. He was greeted rudely, with Brett Lawrie hitting a leadoff homer in the first, but he stifled the Jays the rest of the way to even his record at 2-2. He has a 3.00 ERA in six starts.

Fri Apr 26 201323:37Ryan Dempster Ks 10 in win over Astros
Ryan Dempster matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts Friday while allowing two runs in six innings in a 7-3 win over the Astros.
It was his first win of the season. Dempster walked three and held the Astros to just four hits. The runs scored on an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly. Perhaps spending his first full season in the American League will catch up to him eventually, but it hasn't mattered so far. With 43 strikeouts in 30 innings, only Yu Darvish (49) has fanned more batters. He'll carry a 3.30 ERA into a start against the Blue Jays next week.

Ryan Dempster struck out eight but fell to 0-2 Sunday when he allowed four runs over seven frames against the Royals.
Dempster gave up six hits, including an Alcides Escobar home run, and walked three. Despite not having a win to show for it, the veteran right-hander has been quite good this season, striking out 33 over 24 innings while putting up a 3.38 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. He has a good shot to get in the win column next weekend against the Astros.

Mon Apr 15 201314:15Dempster fans 10 over seven in Red Sox win
Ryan Dempster tossed seven innings of one-run ball Monday as the Red Sox defeated the visiting Rays.
Dempster was locked in and facing a slumping Rays lineup on Patriots' Day at Fenway Park. He finished with 10 strikeouts, allowing only two hits and two walks to the 24 batters he faced. The veteran right-hander has a 2.65 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 25/8 K/BB ratio over 17 innings this season. He will get the Royals next.

Wed Apr 10 201322:54Dempster fans seven in no-decision Wednesday
Ryan Dempster allowed three runs -- one earned -- in five innings but the Red Sox lost to the Orioles on Wednesday.
The numbers look nice, but Dempster was inefficient in lasting only five innings for the Sox. He's now struck out 15 batters in 10 innings, a nice surprise for owners of the 35-year-old. He'll next start Monday against the Rays, another lineup against which he could find some success.

Thu Apr 4 201322:05Ryan Dempster loses to Yankees
Ryan Dempster took a loss in his Red Sox debut after giving up three runs in five innings Thursday against the Yankees.
Dempster struck out eight, but three hits amounted to two runs in the second and Brett Gardner added a solo homer in the third. These kinds of outings should be the norm for Dempster. He won't be bad, but he probably won't help fantasy teams in ERA and WHIP.

Fri Mar 8 201321:57Ryan Dempster struggles in loss to Twins
Ryan Dempster struggled in Friday's loss to the Twins, surrendering two runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings.
On the bright side, he did display good command on the evening, issuing zero free passes while fanning two. He's yet to walk a batter in 8 2/3 innings this spring, and his velocity has been right around his career norm. His struggles as a member of the Rangers in 2012 could depress his value in fantasy drafts, making Dempster a nice potential value in the middle rounds.

Sun Mar 3 201317:29Ryan Dempster goes three scoreless
Ryan Dempster pitched three scoreless innings, striking out two, against the Yankees on Sunday.
Dempster decided to settle in for the Red Sox rather than pitch for Canada in the World Baseball Classic. He's allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings so far this spring.
