Mon Mar 30 201514:19Roberto Hernandez:
Hernandez pitched well in his most recent Grapefruit League start on Saturday, permitting just one run on three hits and two walks with a strikeout over five innings against Miami.
Hernandez expressed optimism that he'd win the Astros' fifth starter competition, but Asher Wojciechowski (1.08 ERA in 16.2 Grapefruit League innings) has outperformed the nine-year veteran this spring. Wojciechowski has minor league options remaining, however, and the Astros most likely want to gain an extra year of control on him by starting him in the minors to open 2015. Houston must let Hernandez, a Rule 20B free agent, know whether he has made the team or not by noon on Tuesday.

Hernandez is expected to make his 2015 Grapefruit League debut Monday against the Blue Jays, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Hernandez, who is competing for the Astros' fifth starter opening, will likely pitch two innings Monday in relief of starter Collin McHugh.

Hernandez expects to be ready to pitch in Grapefruit League games after his scheduled bullpen session Saturday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Hernandez was a late arrival to spring training Wednesday night, but he had been throwing at the Astros' complex in the Dominican Republic while awaiting his visa. He'll now enter the mix for Houston's fifth starter opening.
Wed Mar 4 201511:43Roberto Hernandez:
Hernandez received his visa and is expected to arrive to Astros camp Wednesday night, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Hernandez is scheduled to travel to Florida from his native Dominican Republic on Wednesday night and take a physical at Osceola County Stadium on Thursday. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said the veteran right-hander has been throwing at the Astros' complex in the Dominican Republic, but acknowledged he''s behind after missing nearly two weeks of camp. Upon his arrival, Hernandez will compete for the fifth spot in Houston's starting rotation with Brad Peacock, Dan Straily, Alex White, Asher Wojciechowski, Samuel Deduno and Jake Buchanan.
Tue Mar 3 201520:47Astros manager A.J
Astros manager A.J. Hinch expects Hernandez (personal) to arrive in camp this week, MLB.com reports.
"I'm expecting him to get here this week," Hinch said. "He's assured me he's throwing bullpens and he's ready to go." Hernandez, who went 8-11 with a 4.10 ERA in 32 games (29 starts) for the Dodgers and Phillies last season, assured the Astros he's not having problems obtaining his visa. "No visa problems, it's just taking a long time," Hinch said. "He's going to have no problem getting a visa. We signed him late and he has a lengthy process to go through. We're hopeful. We can't wait to see him."
Thu Feb 26 201510:26Astros manager A.J
Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Hernandez has not yet arrived to spring training and doesn't know when to expect him, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Hernandez's visa issue has delayed his arrival to Astros camp longer than expected. While he's expected to compete for Houston's final rotation spot upon his arrival to spring training, his chances of actually landing the job will depend on how quickly he shows up.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow anticipates Hernandez "should be here (spring training), we're hoping Tuesday, but I'm not going to put an exact time on it," Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
A visa issue delayed Hernandez's arrival to Astros camp, but it sounds like he will join his teammates early next week. The veteran right-hander is expected to compete for Houston's final rotation spot during spring training.
Thu Feb 19 201508:47Hernandez may be late arrival to Astros camp due to visa issue
Hernandez may be a late arrival to Astros camp due to a visa issue, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Hernandez, who recently signed a minor league contract with the Astros on February 12, is trying to secure a work visa on a quick turnaround before pitchers and catchers report to camp on Friday. Manager A.J. Hinch is aware of the issue, but hasn't been told for sure that the veteran righty will be late to spring training.

Fernandez signed a minor league contract with the Astros on Thursday that includes an invite to spring training, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Hernandez finished the 2014 season with respectable, if unspectacular, numbers (4.10 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) despite a disappointing run with the Dodgers over the final two months. However, his 10.1% walk rate was his worst since 2009 (when he pitched under the assumed name of Fausto Carmona) and his .266 opponents' BABIP was nearly 30 points below his career mark (.292). The final rotation spot in Houston figures to come down to Hernandez and Dan Straily.

Hernandez gave up three runs and four walks in 5.2 innings pitched against the Rockies on Friday in a no-decision.
All Hernandez needed to do was get one more out in the sixth inning to pick up the win, but his 101-pitch effort along with a lefty-against-lefty matchup got Hernandez pulled. Hernandez has been a so-so pickup for the Dodgers, but he has eaten innings in a time of need.

Hernandez lasted only 3.2 innings after allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout Monday against the Rockies.
Hernandez was yanked after the Rockies loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth. The move worked as Paco Rodriguez induced a Charlie Blackmon groundout to end the threat. The right-hander hasn't pitched past the fourth inning in three September starts, going 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA over that span. Hernandez will face the Cubs in Chicago on Saturday.

Hernandez lasted just three innings Tuesday, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk, while striking out three in the loss to the Padres.
It has not been good stretch for Hernandez, as this is the third time in his last four starts he could not make it past the fifth inning. In fact, he has not pitched into the seventh inning in his time with the Dodgers (six starts). He now possesses a modest 4.04 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 97:65 K:BB in 151.1 innings this year. His next start is set for Monday on the road against the Rockies.

Hernandez was tagged for four home runs and five runs overall Monday in a loss to the Nationals. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings.
The Nationals made Dodger Stadium look small versus Hernandez on Monday. Denard Span got him once in the third inning and again in the fifth before the right-hander was finally yanked. Hernandez falls to 8-10 on the year with a 4.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 94:64 K:BB ratio.

Hernandez pitched six innings Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out three en route to his eighth win of the year.
Hernandez has been pitching fairly well for the Dodgers. In four starts with the club, he has allowed 10 runs (nine earned) in 23 innings pitched. Obviously, pitching for the Dodgers has increased his value a bit, as he will get more chances for wins. His next start is set for Monday at home against the Nationals.

Hernandez (7-9) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts Wednesday in a 4-1 loss to the Padres.
Despite the hiccup Wednesday, Hernandez has been dealing of late. The right-hander is 2-1 in August while sporting a 2.16 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Hernandez' spot on the rotation comes up in Arizona on Tuesday.

Hernandez (7-8) earned his first win as a Dodger on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out five in six innings against the Braves.
Four walks is too many, but you can't knock the results -- Hernandez's fourth straight quality start (evenly split between the Phillies and Dodgers). He's got a nice matchup coming up against the Padres next week.

Hernandez was sharp in his Dodgers' debut Friday night, allowing just two runs on three hits, he did not walk a batter, and struck out five over six innings, but came away with a no-decision in a 9-3 loss to the Brewers.
The Brewers got to him for a pair of runs in the first inning, but he then got stingy and shut them down for the next five frames while his new teammates scratched out three runs to give him a lead when he departed. he is likely to take on the Braves in Atlanta in his next start.

Hernandez will replace Josh Beckett (hip) in the rotation Friday against the Brewers, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Hernandez won't have to wait long for his first start with his new team, as Josh Beckett underwent an MRI on Thursday, and is likely headed for the disabled list. Should Beckett officially land on the DL, Hernandez could be in line to make a few more starts for the Dodgers during the remainder of the season. He owned a 3.87 ERA over 20 starts with the Phillies, and his fantasy value stands to be much improved while playing for a better club.

Hernandez told Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he will start for the Dodgers on Friday.
The team has yet to confirm, but it sounds like Hernandez will start in place of Josh Beckett (hip) against Kyle Lohse and the Brewers on Friday. Hernandez was traded to the Dodgers on Thursday in exchange for two players to be named later or cash considerations, after posting a 3.87 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 23 appearances (20 starts) with the Phillies.
Thu Aug 7 201414:26Hernandez traded to Dodgers on Thursday
Hernandez was traded to the Dodgers on Thursday.
Hernandez was traded for either two players to be named later or cash considerations. The move is a bit puzzling for the Dodgers, who already have a strong rotation. The team may decide to use him as the fifth starter over Dan Haren or may choose to use him as a reliever out of the bullpen. Either way, the 34 year-old will be the beneficiary of a move that will add him to a team in the playoff hunt.
