Tue Dec 28 201010:21Maya posts 1.32 ERA in eight DWL starts
Yunesky Maya posted a 1.32 ERA over eight starts in the Dominican Winter League this offseason.
Maya also had a .193 opponents' batting average and a spectacular 42/9 K/BB ratio in 41 innings. He inked a four-year, $6 million contract with the Nationals in 2010 and went to post a lousy 5.88 ERA and 12/11 K/BB ratio over his first 26 big league innings. But the talent is there and he may find a way into the Opening Day rotation if all goes well during the spring.

Sun Sep 26 201013:48Nationals still high on Maya
The Nationals remain high on the future of Yunesky Maya despite the Cuban defector's slow start.
Maya has a 6.43 ERA and an 8/10 K/BB ratio over his first 21 innings. "He's got to try and play catch-up," pitching coach Steve McCatty said. "The culture shock, everything that he's been through to get to this point, it's been a lot. It's a tough adjustment. He's changing his whole idea how to pitch." Even if Maya does manage to figure things out, he profiles as more of a back end of the rotation kind of guy. You should certainly stay away from him in fantasy for the time being.

Sat Sep 25 201017:12Maya struggles in loss to Braves
Yunesky Maya was knocked around for five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Braves on Saturday afternoon.
Maya isn't fooling anyone. He gave up eight hits -- including a three-run shot to Alex Gonzalez in the sixth -- while walking four and striking out one. The Cuban defector has a 6.43 ERA and an awful 8/10 K/BB ratio over his first 21 innings in the big leagues. The Nationals projected him to fit in the back of their rotation, but it doesn't look like he has the proper stuff to put major league hitters away on a consistent basis. Stay away from him in fantasy leagues until he proves otherwise.
Mon Sep 13 201021:29Maya allows four earned in loss to Braves
Yunesky Maya allowed four earned runs over six innings Monday as the Nationals fell to the Braves.
Maya gave up four runs in five innings in his major league debut last week against the Mets. It appears that he was rushed too quickly through the Nationals' system. That, or he's struggling to adjust to big-league life. Either way, the Cuban defector shouldn't be fantasy-relevant this season.
