Tue Sep 13 201101:34Pineiro roughed up by A's
Joel Pineiro allowed five runs on five hits in just three innings of work on Monday, falling to 6-7 in the Angels loss to the A's.
Pineiro put the Halos behind the eight ball early, serving up a three-run homer to Josh Willingham in the first inning. Tonight was the first time in four outings he failed to complete at least six innings of work. Now the owner of a 5.33 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, he'll get the Orioles in Baltimore this weekend. You'll likely want to keep him benched.

Joel Pineiro won for the first time since July 9 Sunday by tossing seven innings of one-run ball against the Twins.

Tue Aug 30 201101:22Joel Pineiro quality vs. M's
Joel Pineiro was solid in a no-decision against the Mariners Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings.
Given up three runs over six frames against the M's offense is hardly a tremendous feat, but Pineiro hadn't posted a quality start since July 7, so it's certainly a step in the right direction. The veteran's groundball rate is down a bit this year, and his BABIP is up, but he simply hasn't been the same pitcher this season as he's been the last couple years. Pineiro will face the Twins next.

Sun Aug 21 201102:25Joel Pineiro gives up four runs to Orioles
Joel Pineiro surrendered four runs in six innings Saturday against the Orioles in his return to the rotation.
It certainly wasn't anything special, but it should be enough to allow him to keep the spot for now. Pineiro allowed nine hits, walked none and struck out two. Seven of the hits were singles.

Tue Aug 16 201118:36Pineiro to return to rotation Saturday
Joel Pineiro will return to the starting rotation Saturday against the Orioles.
He'll take his rotation spot back from rookie right-hander Garrett Richards, who was placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Pineiro tossed three shutout innings in relief of Richards on Monday night, but has a disappointing 5.34 ERA over 111 1/3 innings this season. The veteran right-hander is not to be trusted in fantasy leagues at the moment.

Thu Aug 4 201119:50Pineiro moved to bullpen
Joel Pineiro has been moved to the bullpen.
The in-contention Angels couldn't put up with Pineiro's struggles any longer. The right-hander posted a 5.31 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 18 starts this season. He'll likely be used as a long reliever and mop-up man. Anaheim will name a replacement this weekend.

Thu Aug 4 201111:38Pineiro may be pulled from rotation
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said following Wednesday's game that the struggling Joel Pineiro may be replaced in the starting rotation.
Pineiro gave up seven runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Twins on Wednesday night and has an ugly 14.85 ERA over his last four starts. "We'll put everything on the table [Thursday] and see where we are," said Scioscia. "Definitely, we need J.P. pitching like he can - that's important to us. Our organizational pitching depth is not where it has been. There are limited options, but we'll look at everything and see what the best way is for us to move forward." If the Angels decide to give Pineiro the boot, internal options include Hisanori Takahashi on the big league roster and Trevor Bell and top pitching prospect Garrett Richards in the minor leagues.

Thu Aug 4 201101:28Pineiro takes loss at home
Joel Pineiro allowed seven runs on seven hits and two home runs in just 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday, falling to 5-6 in Los Angeles' 11-4 loss to the Twins.
He struck out two and walked one. Both home runs came off the bat of Delmon Young, who got Pineiro for a two-run shot in the second and solo bomb in the fourth. He's now allowed 12 home runs in 103 1/3 innings on the season, a poor ratio for a groundball pitcher that makes a large majority of his starts in pitcher-friendly stadiums.

Joel Pineiro struggled again Thursday, yielding six runs -- five earned -- in 3 1/3 innings against the Tigers.
Pineiro has given up 17 runs -- 15 earned -- over nine innings in his three straight since the break. The Angels are supposed to be looking for bullpen help over anything else, but if Pineiro's problems continue, they may want to try grabbing a starter in an August deal.

Joel Pineiro allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings of work on Wednesday, taking a no-decision in Los Angeles' 6-5, 10-inning win in Florida.
He struck out three and walked one. Pineiro has now turned in just one quality start in his past seven outings, and as the owner of a 31/18 K/BB ratio through his first 70 1/3 innings of work this season, he is strictly a spot-starter for mixed-league players.

Joel Pineiro yielded four earned runs over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees on Sunday.
Pineiro struck out four, walked three and gave up nine hits. It's the fourth straight start that he has allowed exactly four earned runs and he has only struck out a total of 10 batters over that span. There's not a lot to get excited about here outside of deep AL-only leagues.

Tue May 17 201103:46Pineiro throw well once again
Joel Pineiro pitched another solid game on Monday, yielding three runs (one earned) on six hits over seven innings against the Athletics.
Pineiro took the no-decision, but was in line for the win before his bullpen collapsed. His 13/8 K/BB ratio is nothing special, but he is not giving up as many hits-per-inning as in previous seasons. Don't expect his 1.32 ERA to hold up, but the usually mediocre Pineiro certainly is pitching well enough to have a career year.

Thu May 5 201116:58Joel Pineiro records first win for Angels
Joel Pineiro notched his first win of 2011 by shutting out the Red Sox for 5 2/3 innings on Thursday.
Working with a pitch count of 100 in his second start back from the DL, Pineiro was taken out after 98 pitches in the rout today. He threw just 53 strikes, but he was able to induce double-play balls in the second, fourth and fifth innings, making things a whole lot easier for him.

Wed May 4 201119:42Joel Pineiro can go to 100 pitches Thursday
Joel Pineiro will be allowed to go to 100 pitches in Thursday's outing.
Pineiro threw just 83 pitches over seven innings of one-run ball in his first start back from the DL last Saturday. He looked terrific in the outing, not only showing off his trademark sinker, but also having success with his slider, curveball and changeup. "Joel had real good command, good sink," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "His stuff plays in any park. One thing that got lost last year was that he was having a terrific year when he got hurt [straining an oblique in late July]. He really pitched well for us."

Sat Apr 30 201116:10Pineiro solid in season debut vs. Rays
In his season debut Saturday against the Rays, Joel Pineiro tossed seven innings of one-run ball as part of a no-decision.
Pineiro pitched well enough to win the ballgame, but the Angels still have to be very pleased with the outing. He allowed just four hits -- three of them singles -- while striking out three and walking just one. The only run scored on a solo homer by Matt Joyce in the fifth inning. Pineiro posted a 3.84 ERA in his first year with the Angels and should remain a useful pitcher in mixed leagues if healthy.

Pineiro's shoulder issues are a thing of the past and he's now set to make his first start of the season on Saturday against the Rays. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 3.84 ERA over 23 starts last season and should have value in mixed leagues again this season.
