No word yet on the financial terms of the deal. Mijares was non-tendered by the Twins earlier this month after posting a disappointing 4.59 ERA and 30/30 K/BB ratio over 49 innings of relief in 2011. The Royals will use him as a lefty specialist next season. |

Twins non-tendered LHP Jose Mijares. |
A minor surprise since Mijares was only projected to make around $1 million next season. The 27-year-old southpaw posted a 4.59 ERA and 30/30 K/BB ratio over 49 innings this past season. He has been effective against left-handed batters during his career, so he shouldn't have any trouble finding a new home. |

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he and pitching coach Rick Anderson will have a discussion over the All-Star break on what to do with the struggling Jose Mijares. |
Mijares has the potential to be nasty, but he just hasn't been himself this season, posting a 5.49 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and hideous 12/17 K/BB rate. It would probably be good for him to get some time at Triple-A Rochester to try to iron out his issues. Chuck James could get the call to replace him. |

Jose Mijares has arrived at Twins camp noticeably slimmer. |
Mijares was giving Dennys Reyes a run for his money for the Portly Southpaw Setup Man award, but he's taken the team's advice and dropped a few pounds, something that was done almost out of necessity as he comes back from knee surgery. He struggled late in the year after returning from the procedure but is looking to bounce back in 2011. "Good for him," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "That's what we told him when he left. He looks really good." |
