He entered the contest with just four punch outs, so last night's performance qualifies as an outburst. Guerrier used to be a holds machine for the Twins, but he's posted just 19 over the past three seasons for the Dodgers, four less than he had in his last year in Minnesota. An elbow injury cost the veteran most of last season. He owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and ugly 6/6 K/BB rate over 18 appearances.

Guerrier mixed in fastballs and sliders, and came out of the workout feeling optimistic. "I feel like when the team goes on the road I'll be going somewhere," he said, indicating that a rehab assignment is coming. He should be back by mid-August.

He could soon face hitters and then going out on a rehab assignment shortly after that. Guerrier is hoping to be back by the first of June. "It's going good right now," said Guerrier. "I'm recovering. I'd like to be back by June 1 if I could. I don't feel any sharp pain anymore, and that's what I was having before."

Kenley Jansen got the save Friday night. And with Vicente Padilla dealing with forearm stiffness, manager Don Mattingly chose to go with Guerrier. Depending on Padilla's health going forward, the Dodgers appear to have multiple ninth inning options going forward.
